Then surprisingly fine-grained and sweet in the middle palate if still a bit youthfully compressed, communicating an impression of medicinal reserve to its rich dark fruit, spice and violet flavors. Way longer than the village wines, with more refined tannins and subtle floral lift. This lively midweight is showing the dark fruit side of the vintage. I may be underrating it today. |

It displays a mélange of red and black fruit, sous-bois and hints of clove. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and dark cherry fruit, mulberry and a dash of white pepper. It maybe just misses the complexity of the 2020 on the finish. It should give at least a decade of pleasure. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Beaune Cras 1er Cru includes 30% whole bunch as a trial for Jadot whose policy has always been to de-stem. To be honest, if I had this blind, I would not have said there is stems in this blend, which I see as a good thing. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh and I do think those stems lend more freshness on the finish. Excellent. |

It will be interesting to see if the 2012 softens over time, or if it gains volume with aging. Today, it is decidedly on the austere side of things. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)(13.8% alcohol) Full, deep ruby-red. Great liqueur-like richness on the nose, with complex notes of blackberry, blueberry, roasted herbs, minerals, coffee and earth. Superconcentrated and explosively deep, with wonderfully sweet yet firmly delineated flavors of black fruits and minerals. Knockout finish features extraordinary persistence, with a firmness belying the wine's very low (2.7 grams per liter) acidity. The wine's extraordinarily fine-grained texture resembles that of the Musigny and Amoureuses. Lardiere says this has a very high 30 grams per liter of dry extract, vs. 26 to 29 for most of the rest of these 2003s. Lardiere compared this wine to the '85 Bonnes-Mares, but this may be even richer. |

Vinous (93-95)Medium red. Deep, brooding aromas of dark berries, brown spices and earth. Extremely introverted on the palate, with strong saline soil tones currently overshadowing the wine's fruit. This finished its malolactic fermentation in July (most of these 2013s finished between March and June of last year) and is clearly behind most of the Gevrey wines here in its development. But this saline, classically dry, very long Bonnes-Mares should prove to be an outstanding wine of terroir 10 or 12 years down the road. |
