Michel Joanna Ecard Savigny-Les-Beaune Aux Serpentieres 2020 is a distinguished expression from the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. Crafted by the esteemed Michel Joanna Ecard, renowned for his meticulous vineyard practices, this wine epitomises elegance and depth. The vineyards, situated on the south-facing slopes of Savigny-lès-Beaune, benefit from optimal sun exposure and well-drained limestone soils, contributing to the wine’s refined structure and vibrant acidity. Hand-harvested Pinot Noir grapes undergo careful fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, preserving the fruit's purity and nuanced flavours. A judicious period of ageing in French oak barrels adds subtle complexity without overpowering the delicate fruit profile. On the palate, Michel Joanna Ecard Savigny-Les-Beaune Aux Serpentieres 2020 reveals layers of red cherry, raspberry, and earthy undertones, culminating in a long, silky finish. An exemplary choice for connoisseurs seeking a quintessential Burgundian Pinot Noir. |

The Michel Juillot Mercurey Champs Martin Rouge 2020 is an exquisite pinot noir hailing from the renowned Burgundy region of France. Expertly crafted by wine virtuoso Michel Juillot, this divine vintage promises a rich exploration of sensational flavours. The vineyard where it's crafted is recognised for Marne soils and the favourable Bajocian epoch. The winemaking process involves traditional fermentation in vats leading to a wine showcasing an evocative dark cherry nose, layered with notions of damp soil, leather and subtle spice. On the palate, the taste is fleshy, balanced with vibrant acidity, not without a finish extending with persistent minerality. The Michel Juillot Mercurey Champs Martin Rouge 2020 truly embodies the essence of fine wine; a masterful blend of site, grape variety and human labour. A must-have for all connoisseurs, it offers an experience not just a taste, presenting an opportunity to delve into the heart of Burgundian winemaking. |

Burgundy | 3 | 88-90 (VN) | HK$4,655.00
Vinous (88-90)(not frosted but the yield was just 20 hectoliters per hectare): Good medium red. Sexy scents of red berries, plum and spices complicated by leather and earth nuances. Supple, fine-grained and sweet if not yet delivering the complexity promised by the nose. This midweight finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru is matured in 15% new oak. It has a very delineated, focused bouquet of mineral-rich red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, gentle grip, superb mineralité and real weight and depth on the very long, persistent finish. This is beautifully balanced. Superb. |

Burgundy | 1 | 89-92 (VN) | HK$10,585.00
Vinous (89-92)(from 93-year-old vines): Bright red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant, cherry and leather. Concentrated and densely packed, but with lively minty lift to the savory red fruit flavors. A note of medicinal red cherry contributes to the wine's taut impression. Finishes complex, juicy and long, with considerably sweeter, more refined tannins than those of the Aigrots. The Lafarges pulled up one-quarter of these very old vines after the 2014 harvest and will replant them in 2017.They were really killed by the three years of hail, noted Frédéric Lafarge. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru comes from the oldest vines at the Domaine, 98 years old, that produced small yields according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a beautiful, very pure kirsch and crushed strawberry nose laced with orange pith. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red berry fruit that hide the structure underneath. More saline than Lafarge’s other cuvées it is very grippy on the finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (85-87)The 2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir has an uncomplicated earthy, sous-bois-infused bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, but I find this a little dry on the finish at the moment. This needs a bit of a pep-up. |

Vinous (91-94)The 2009 Pommard Pezerolles emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, raspberries and sweet spices. This is an utterly refined Pommard. There is plenty of energy and vigor, but the fruit has more than enough pedigree and depth to stand up to the tannins. This is the estate's smallest cuvée; in 2009 there are only two barrels. |

Vinous (96)Exotic notes dominated the 2002 Lafarge Volnay Clos des Ducs, especially in the bouquet. Both Volnays were open for business and drinking beautifully. |

Burgundy | 1 | 95-97 (VN) | HK$1,995.00
Vinous (95-97)The 2017 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs is completely de-stemmed by hand this year, which took just over 30 hours according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a very pure bouquet with redcurrant, wild strawberry, crushed stone and light rose petal aromas, more feminine than the Clos des Chênes but just as captivating. The palate is packed full of energy and vivacity, superb tension running from start to finish with the mineralité flooding across the entrancing finish. Outstanding. Very pure and given that nascent energy, a long-term prospect. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2018 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs 1er Cru was de-stalked by hand, a practice incepted with the 2016 vintage. It demands more coaxing from the glass, but reveals wonderful violet-infused red currant, cranberry and wild cherry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins and great depth but gentle grip. This is your quintessential iron fist in a velvet glove. Wonderful spiciness lingers for more than 60 seconds on the finish. Stunning. |

Wine Advocate (94-96+)The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs is liable to overshadow even the emblematic Clos des Chênes this year. Offering up a profound bouquet of blackberries, sweet spices, rose petals, orange rind, summer truffles and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and immensely concentrated, with lively acids, abundant but almost imperceptible tannins and a long, saline finish. |
