Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village, matured in around 25% new oak, has quite a perfumed bouquet with red cherries and rose petal scents, quite airy and nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, slightly creamy in texture, gaining weight towards the finish that feels quite caressing.

Wine Advocate (89)The 2011 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from 0.57 hectares of 32-year-old vine, is attired in a perfumed ferrous bouquet that is broody at the moment and perhaps needs another year to open up. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine structure, though it seems foursquare and shows slight attenuation toward the finish. It actually showed better when re-tasted a month later at the domaine when it exhibited finer precision. Drink 2014-2020.

Tim Atkin MW (96)Romain Taupenot has not been afraid to make ageworthy wines in 2012, but they aren't overly tannic or woody, just structured and well balanced. This is a case in point: a subtly oaked Grand Cru with real drive and precision. The fruit is sweet and supple, but it's surrounded by fine-grained tannins and mineral freshness.

Vinous (93)The 2013 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a wine that I have not tasted since in barrel. It has blossomed on the nose with charming redcurrant, Morello and tertiary scents, a subtle damp moss and undergrowth aroma gradually becoming more prominent with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, a palpable sense of energy and impressive precision towards the finish that leaves the mouth tingling with glee afterwards. Impressive and this comes highly recommended. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Taupenot-Merme retrospective.

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2015 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has an expressive bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry coulis, a touch of honey and a hint of Seville orange marmalade. It opens nicely in the glass, though does not slip into fifth gear at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, cohesive in the mouth and quite saline and spicy. There is generosity here, a trait of Charmes-Chambertin, with the mineral core surfacing right at the finish as it fans out. This is an impressive follow-up to the superb 2014 and it should give 20+ years of pleasure.

Vinous (92-94)Bright red-ruby. Slightly medicinal aromas of blackberry, licorice and violet complicated by a rocky quality. Pungent, tangy and high-pitched, offering a very fine-grained texture to its flavors of cassis, black cherry and violet; aeration brought a slightly less black note of raspberry and sexy savory soil tones. From vines on very shallow soil just across the Route des Grands Crus from Chambertin, this wine offers terrific punch and building sweetness. Both these vines and those in Mazoyères-Chambertin were planted shortly after World War II but a small part of the Charmes was replanted in 1998.

Vinous (94)The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a primal bouquet of black cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, becoming more confit-like with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and fine depth and poise. Crisp and taut with a pleasant brittle texture toward the finish. It needs time, but it will come good in the end. Closure is Diam 30 Organic. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a straightforward, focused bouquet with brambly red fruit, briary and tea leaf aromas, though it just lacks the assertiveness and intensity you seek from a Grand Cru. The palate is better with a light spiced opening, good weight and cohesion with black pepper and sea salt infused red fruit. Quite Mazoyères in terms of structure towards the finish, this will benefit from 4-6 years in bottle.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)Rich, exuberant purple. A cheerful nose, flamboyantly perfumed which is as Charmes should be. I very much like the balance of this, which is all in red fruit, succulent strawberry and raspberry, good acidity, no feeling of excess heat. 14.1% but holds it without difficulty. Tasted: December 2021

Burghound (90-93)A fresh and distinctly cool nose is comprised by airy and laudably pure notes of red pinot fruit, green tea, earth and soft spice hints. There is a beguiling sense of underlying tension to the detailed and precise middleweight flavors that possess fine balance and excellent length on the saline-suffused finish where a touch of sweetness slowly emerges. This could use better depth, but the potential aging curve should allow more to develop

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is a "decent" quantity this year according to Romain Taupenot, though that only equates to a measly 170-litres. Despite the miniscule quantity, this is still de-stemmed. It has a crisp nose with brambly red berry fruit, pressed rose petals and a touch of Earl Grey. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins. It feels cohesive and poised, gentle towards the smooth finish with lightly spiced red fruit, bay leaf and a pinch of sea salt. Lovely...if you can find it.

Wine Advocate (91)The 2011 Corton Rognet Grand Cru has a more reticent nose with subtle marine scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. This is a tertiary Corton with attractive damp earthy and moss accents that inform the composed understated finish. Drink now-2020.

Vinous (93-95)The 2012 Corton Rognet dazzles from start to finish. Tar, licorice, black cherries, smoke and spices burst from the glass as this exuberant, powerful Burgundy shows off its personality. The 2012 is rich, intense and massively structured, but all the elements are in the right place. Readers lucky enough to find the 2012 should plan on giving the wine a few years in the cellar. Today, the Corton Rognet is striking. In 2012 there are just 4 barrels instead of the typical 7 or so.

Vinous (92)Healthy dark red. Pungent aromas of dried flowers and iodine are complicated by a resiny note. Dense, sweet and deep, conveying an impression of power to its savory flavors of dried flowers and potpourri. Finishes with noteworthy aromatic persistence. This wine will rely as much on its acidity as on its tannins for longevity.

Vinous (92+)Bright dark red. Reticent red berry and spice aromas are complemented by an earthy element. At once sweet and penetrating, with firm acidity and savory minerality giving grip to the fine-grained flavors of red fruits, spices and peony. Finishes classically dry and vibrant, with a rising finish that stimulates the taste buds. This one may need a decade to reach peak drinkability.

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2015 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet with blackberry, raspberry preserve, crushed rose petals and just a hint of blood orange, quite sophisticated in style for a Corton-Rognet. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy tannin on the entry. This does not shortchange you on fruit: blackberry, raspberry and a pinch of white pepper, leading to a structured and quite grippy finish that like Taupernot-Merme's other 2015s, manages to retain impressive freshness and elegance. It has an incredibly long aftertaste, over a minute in the mouth and you can still feel this. Highly recommended.

Vinous (93)The 2016 Corton Grand Cru is comparatively deep in colour. The bouquet is surfeit with red berry fruit, briary and crushed stone aromas, all well defined and beautifully assimilated with the new oak. This is a superb Corton that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)

Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a very well-delineated bouquet, very terroir-driven, crushed stone infusing the red fruit a touch of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh acidity, taut and crisp, gently building towards quite a complex finish with touches of Early Grey infusing the red fruit, cracked black pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent.
