Vinous (89-91)(Liger-Belair just bought this parcel on mostly clay and silt soil after years of farming it via a fermage arrangement; 50% vendange entier; just 20% of the crop was lost to frost): Dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe dark fruit aromas are complicated by strong soil notes of dried flowers (the veggie side of floral, says Liger-Belair), licorice and cut straw. More precise on the palate than the nose suggests, displaying the savory, sappy side of the vintage and very good intensity. Finishes with building, slightly dusty tannins and noteworthy energy. Not at all a rustic style of Gevrey, despite the fact that it's from a parcel on the wrong side of the Route Nationale. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Croix des Champs is more than 55% whole cluster. That stem addition comes across a little strongly on the nose and occludes the terroir profile. The medium-bodied palate offers firm tannins, plenty of red berry fruit laced with orange peel and slathers of marmalade, and a grippy finish with a light cola note on the aftertaste. Fine. |

The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and brambly red fruit laced with white pepper toward the elegant finish. Promising. |

Thibault Liger-Belair Hautes Cotes Nuits Roche 2018 is an astounding example of Burgundian elegance, hailing from the globally renowned Liger-Belair estate. Thibault Liger-Belair, a prodigious winemaker, utilises his deep reverence for tradition and innovative viticulture to create this luxurious red wine. Nestled in the illustrious Hautes-Côtes de Nuits region, the grapes benefit from clay and limestone-rich soils and cool climate, producing opulent flavours and aromatic complexity. Meticulously hand-harvested and predominantly fermented with indigenous yeasts, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation before maturing in French oak barrels, fostering its distinctive profile. This 2018 vintage impresses with a bouquet of black fruits, subtle spices and earthy undertones, underscored by a balanced acidity and well-rounded tannins. The Thibault Liger-Belair Hautes Cotes Nuits Roche 2018's enchanting character and superior structure make it a must-have addition to any fine wine collection. |

Vinous (86-88)The 2019 Bourgognes Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Clos du Prieuré, from the west side of Nuits Saint-Georges, has a taut nose that disguises the high alcohol (over 14.0°). The palate is very promising, offering dark berry fruit, good substance and candied orange peel toward the finish. The aromatics just have to open up by the time of bottling. |

Burgundy | 1 | 90 (VN) | HK$3,495.00
Vinous (90)Bright red-ruby. Musky, reticent aromas of mocha, leather and earth. Enters the mouth silky and subtly sweet, with its currant and blackberry fruit flavors showing a slight leathery rusticity. Finishes with ripe tannins and sneaky length--and an inviting juiciness. |

Burgundy | 2 | 89-91 (VN) | HK$5,540.00
Vinous (89-91)(40% vendange entier; 50% new oak; just six barrels were produced from one hectare of vines exposed to the combe influence): Bright, dark red. Dark cherry, dark berries and a hint of flowers on the nose. Sappy dark fruit flavors convey an impression of solidity, with an element of warm spices and smoky limestone extending the finish and supporting the wine's serious dusting of tannins. Liger-Belair feels that owing to low yields, many Nuits-Saint-Georges '16s from vineyards on the north side of the town are more burly and masculine than usual. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges La Charmotte has a charming bouquet of light red cherries, raspberry and orange zest, really approachable and yet nuanced. The medium-bodied palate offers grainy tannins and feels fresh and sapid, the whole bunch (40%) nicely integrated. A dash of black pepper appears on the finish. Very fine. |

Burgundy | 1 | 89-91 (VN) | HK$7,280.00
Vinous (89-91)The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges La Charmotte includes 45% whole bunch this year. It has a well-defined bouquet that displays wonderful Pinoté. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine grip and hints of marmalade toward the finish, which feels a little stern at the moment but should soften once in bottle. |

Vinous (93+)Bright medium red. Sexy high-pitched perfume of raspberry, rose petal, chocolate and red licorice. Sappy but youthfully imploded on the palate, but already displaying outstanding definition and lift to its berry, spice and mint flavors. This is at another level in terms of its sheer energy. The tannins are firm but fully ripe and the finish perfumes the mouth and stimulates the taste buds. |

Vinous (95)The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has an impressive and quite captivating bouquet with open-knit tertiary red berry fruit, hints of leather and sous-bois, just so involving that you cannot extract your nose from the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with seamless tannin, superb acidity, the new oak present but seamless integrated with a satin-like finish that you might conflate with a wine from Vosne-Romanée. Outstanding. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Burgundy | 5 | 92-94 (VN) | HK$3,260.00
Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru includes 40% whole cluster fruit, the most that Thibaut has used thus far. Matured in 60% new oak, it has a refined bouquet of pure black cherries, black currant, briar and crushed granite aromas, almost chalky in style. The palate is medium-bodied with immediate mineralité that alerts the senses. This is not a subtle Les Saint-Georges; it races out of the blocks with vivacious, almost flint-infused dark berry fruit and touches of bergamot and chai tea toward the sustained finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a superb bouquet of brambly red fruit, quite ferrous in style, displaying hints of dried blood and meat juices. The tensile palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a crisp, structured, classically styled finish. Bon vin. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-97)Deep purple more than black, the nose is classier and more together than the Clos Vougeot. Actually this is brilliant as soon as the nose starts to open. Wow! This has all the classic depth of Les St-Georges but it seems to have a Vosne side heady joy as well. A huge glorious mouthful, a little white pepper tingle (45% whole bunches), but a royal quality of deep dark raspberry fruit, sensational finish. Easily the best I have ever tasted here. Grand Vin (©Clive Coates). Tasted: November 2021 |

Burgundy | 2 | 93-96 (IB) | HK$7,090.00
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)40% whole bunch vinification. Dense rich purple. The nose is startlingly fine in rich dark raspberry fruit. Les St-Georges was hailed on which seems just to concentrate the wine. A massive wealth of fruit, drier at the back than the super saturated front, but that will come better into focus by the end of the elevage. Very promising. A light coffee note? Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)Three tanks were made, two destemmed and the third with 70% stems, averaging out to 20% approximately, with tanks of differing sizes. A medium deep crimson ruby. Very appealing on the nose, neither too ripe nor too concentrated, and the red and black fruit on the palate is livened up by a surprising salinity – squid ink suggests Thibault, not a descriptor that really enthuses me, but I think this is going to be a first class Les St-Georges. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Burgundy | 2 | 91 (VN) | HK$3,145.00
Vinous (91)The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Belle Croix has a very perfumed, animated bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberry and mandarin scents, displaying good mineralité and more cohesion than the La Charmotte. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp acidity, good grip and an expressive, savory finish. Very fine. |

Vinous (96+)Bright full red. Wild, expressive aromas of raspberry, flinty minerality and pungent spices. Delivers outstanding power and palate-staining richness, with intense, sweet berry and dark cherry fruit complicated by saline, soil-driven minerality. This complex and complete, if youthfully strict, wine is the total package. With its noble, harmonious tannins and echoing fruits and minerals, this great grand cru saturates every square millimeter of the palate. |
