Wine Advocate (92-94)

The 2015 Corton Grand Cru has a modest nose following the pair of excellent Aloxe-Corton Premier Crus. The small proportion of whole bunch lends a little forest floor to the mix of broody dark fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin. There is a keen thread of acidity here although it tightens up towards the finish, slams the door shut (for now). Hopefully buyers will cellar this for several years, because it has huge potential.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2018 Corton Grand Cru comes from the Les Combes climat toward the bottom of the slope. It has a floral bouquet with pressed rose petal aromas flanking the raspberry, strawberry and vanilla aromas. The palate is clean and precise on the entry, displaying good acidity, and quite linear in style, with a strict, tensile finish that is very promising. One to watch once in bottle.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2020 Corton Grand Cru, which comes from Les Combes as usual (though not on the label), has a lovely nose with brambly red fruit, black truffle and subtle pencil box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, very fine tension and an almost sorbet-fresh, quite mouth-coating finish. It will require time in bottle...but this Corton will be worth the wait.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-93)

Rich purple, perhaps not quite so dense. Ripe strawberry with some floral rose notes in a concentrated register, then an explosion of blackcurrant, blackberry and some fresher red berry notes as well on the palate, soft and liquid, though the alcohol is showing, at 15%. Tasted: October 2021

Vinous (87-89)

The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru has a perfumed nose, perhaps just missing a little definition due to the warmth of the growing season. The balanced palate offers sweet black cherries and raspberry fruit. Quite spicy on the midpalate, although it does not quite deliver the complexity of the 2016 or 2017 toward the finish. A Savigny more for early drinking.

The 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the limit with the forest that produces a low yields (in one year they cut the trees and the yields increased by 20%). Matured in five new barrels, it has a perfumed bouquet with red currant, cranberry and sous-bois notes with a touch of oyster shell. The palate is very well balanced with crisp red berry fruit, fine mineralité with a sense of energy and poise on the finish. There is a fine sustain here, a great contribution to the vintage and the domaine's top wine in 2013.

Vinous (94)

The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru has a very refined and elegant bouquet with pure red fruit mixed with sous-bois and wilted rose petals. The palate is very harmonious on the entry with a fine bead of acidity and caressing tannins. A touch of balsamic infuses the plush red fruit on the silky textured finish. It is not as sophisticated as a Rousseau Chambertin (heaven forbid!) however one could argue that this is cut from a similar cloth.

Burghound (92)

(from a .39 ha parcel; 100% new wood). Once again there is just enough wood lurking in the background of the ripe aromas of poached plum, dark currant, forest floor and an abundance of earth nuances. The super-sleek and intense larger-bodied flavors possess both fine detail and plenty of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Patience advised here as well.

Burghound (91)

Initially there was a touch of reduction so be sure to decant this. With a few minutes of air pretty aromas of complex and cool red pinot fruit, earth and a hint of humus give way to equally earthy medium weight flavors that possess good volume and a fine muscularity, all wrapped in a very firm but not aggressive finish. This understated effort should be lovely in a few years.

Wine Advocate (90)

Matured in 80% new oak, the 2013 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru was bottled in December. It has a straightforward bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, perhaps a little rustic and missing a little complexity. It has plenty of sappy black fruit, good structure, but needs a little more flesh and persistence on the bay-leaf infused finish. Cellar this for a couple of years and see what comes out the other side.
