Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2015 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet with blackberry, raspberry preserve, crushed rose petals and just a hint of blood orange, quite sophisticated in style for a Corton-Rognet. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy tannin on the entry. This does not shortchange you on fruit: blackberry, raspberry and a pinch of white pepper, leading to a structured and quite grippy finish that like Taupernot-Merme's other 2015s, manages to retain impressive freshness and elegance. It has an incredibly long aftertaste, over a minute in the mouth and you can still feel this. Highly recommended.

Vinous (93)The 2016 Corton Grand Cru is comparatively deep in colour. The bouquet is surfeit with red berry fruit, briary and crushed stone aromas, all well defined and beautifully assimilated with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black and red fruit, well judged acidity, clean and crisp with gentle grip on the finish. This is a superb Corton that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru is quite strict and slightly ferrous on the nose, gradually opening with redcurrant and cranberry fruit, touches of orange blossom and pain d'épices. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, lightly spiced with white pepper and cumin. Modest depth, it feels nicely focused with a persistent saline finish. Very fine

Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a very well-delineated bouquet, very terroir-driven, crushed stone infusing the red fruit a touch of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh acidity, taut and crisp, gently building towards quite a complex finish with touches of Early Grey infusing the red fruit, cracked black pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent.

Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru comes from a single parcel. It has a pretty, pastille-like red cherry and raspberry scented nose that just needs a little more amplitude. The palate is quite spicy on the entry and here there is much more delineation and finesse than the aromatics imply, very cohesive and well-knit on the finish. Excellent.

Vinous (90)The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel-Air 1er Cru demonstrates more cohesion and harmony on the nose compared directly with the 2011 Les Pruliers, vibrant cranberry and raspberry preserve scents, a little smoke and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a gentle grip in the mouth, showing good weight and presence with a lively, surprisingly structured finish that retains sufficient finesse. This is showing well and should give drinking pleasure over the next decade. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Taupenot-Merme retrospective.

Vinous (91-93)Healthy dark red. A bit less black and more floral than the La Riotte, offering aromas of strawberry, raspberry and minerals plus a whiff of game. Silky on entry, then concentrated, supple and juicy, showing lovely violet and chalky mineral lift to the black cherry fruit. The crop level was down 60% due to the frost but there's nothing clenched about this wine today. Finishes with ripe, fine-grained tannins and excellent spicy length. This vineyard just below the forest has benefited from global warming, noted Taupenot.

Vinous (94)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru is overly floral on the nose with raspberry, cranberry and light loamy aromas, more oyster shell scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with fine balance, very terroir-driven with great tension and vibrant red cherry and strawberry fruit bursting forth on the finish. Superb.

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru is attractive and fresh on the nose, melted tar and pencil box scents percolating through the red and black fruit, a hint of orange rind with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, finely tuned with such pretty red cherry and wild strawberry notes on the tart finish. Taupenot referred to this as his "baby Bèze" - a perfectly apt description.

Tim Atkin MW (94)Like the domaine's La Combe d'Orveau, this Premier Cru sits high on a slope above Grand Crus. The vines averaged 44 years old for the 2020 vintage, with the larger part planted in 1974 and the smaller bit planted in 1986. The focused, pure nose smells of blackberry coulis and fresh flowers. The palate bustles with freshness and energy as the finely-hewn tannins frame the medium body. 2024-35

Vinous - Neal Martin (92)The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru has a light nose with clearly some whole cluster at play, "cool" red fruit aromatics and traces of wilted rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with light but pliant tannins. There is a gentle, very discreet build in the mouth, providing satisfying substance on the finish, married with a keen line of acidity and spiciness. It is a deftly crafted Gevrey that should give at least a decade of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Burghound (89-91)A completely different aromatic profile is present here with much more sauvage character to the earthy red and dark currant scents. The sleek, cool and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors possess both a bit more volume and noticeably more punch on the delicious yet entirely serious finish that is at once well-balanced and persistent. This lovely Gevrey villages is worth checking out.

Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a very attractive, quite floral bouquet, understated but opening with lovely red berry fruit and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite structured with a Morey-like personality on the finish. This is quite stylish and should age well in bottle.

Burghound (89-91)This is also relatively elegant and cool with its combination of wild red cherry, sauvage and discreet spice whiffs. The precise and almost lilting middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of tension while displaying fine length on the youthfully austere and balanced finale. This could arguably use a bit better depth, but more should develop with a few years of keeping.

Wine Spectator (93)Offers alluring freshness and pure flavors of cherry, raspberry and violet, accented by spice and a tinge of graphite. The tannins are present but well-behaved, finishing long and tactile. Best from 2016 through 2025. 5 cases imported. -BS

Vinous (94)The 2012 Mazoyères-Chambertin displays fine intensity and conviction on the nose, a mixture of black and blue fruit borrowing some of the floral notes (iris rather than violet) from the 2013. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy texture and it coheres nicely in the glass. Juxtaposed against the 2011 and 2013, the 2012 has a little more length and depth, and more mineralité on the finish. You could broach this now, though personally I would wait another couple of years.

Vinous (93+)Deep, bright red. Captivating aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cherry liqueur, soy sauce and porcini. At once dense and juicy, conveying outstanding energy and firm underlying minerality to its flavors of red fruits, spices, dried flowers and earth. Still tightly wound but not hard, this strong effort finishes with firm but sweet tannins and terrific rising length.

Wine Advocate (96)Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru has a glorious bouquet with red and black fruit, sous bois and pressed rose petal aromas that seem to flourish in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red berry fruit laced with white pepper and orange peel. I appreciate the cohesion and length of this grand cru, one filled with panache to the last sip. This is a brilliant performance from Taupenot-Merme and it totally outclassed the Charmes-Chambertin tasted alongside. Tasted September 2017.
