(3x75cl) 2013Vinous (93+)
Full red. Aromas of medicinal black cherry, licorice and menthol are quite reticent compared to those of the Charmes. Suave and penetrating on the palate, displaying enticing violet lift to the pure aromas of black fruits and game. Firm tannins and strong acidity clamp down on the chiseled, energetic, very long finish, which offers a refined hint of black pepper Juicy, savory Chambertin with nothing hard about it.HK$10,715.00 -
(6x75cl) 2013Burghound (91-93)
A discreet if not invisible application of wood sets off earthy liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, rose petal and exotic tea scents. There is a sleek muscularity to the bold, powerful and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that possess fine intensity on the balanced and beautifully persistent finish. This is good stuff as it's Corton-like but elegant.HK$5,835.00 -
Burghound (93-95)
(Don't Miss!) The breezy nose is also overtly spicy with markedly ripe yet fresh aromas of plum liqueur, cassis and Asian-style tea nuances. There is outstanding concentration to the powerful yet polished and sleek broad-shouldered and mineral-inflected flavors that are at once muscular and refined while delivering positively terrific depth and length. I very much like the balance and this stunner of a wine should also reward longer-term cellaring.HK$41,455.00 -

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet Clos de Chevalier Grand Cru has a slightly muffled bouquet compared to its peers, needing to muster more precision and mineral expression. The palate is fresh on the entry with a smooth and lightly honeyed texture, vanilla and white chocolate notes from the new oak, perhaps a little too generous for a wine of this standing yet undeniably quite delicious. Tasted May 2016.HK$21,050.00 -

Vinous (91)
Bright red. Aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, red licorice, smoke and flowers. Suave and fine-grained; comes across as suppler than the 2014. Delivers lovely fruit sweetness but also serious medicinal reserve; will this shut down in bottle? Turned more tannic with air and showed its firm spine. This very fresh Clos Vougeot will need at least a few years in the bottle.HK$9,130.00 -
Wine Enthusiast (96)
This wine is very young, still with layers of wood. It is going to be a structured, dense and packed with a strong mineral texture. To contrast, generous red plum fruits and intense acidity are ready to convey a deep, rich character. Drink this impressive wine from 2019.HK$19,800.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers has a refined bouquet with undergrowth-infused red berry fruit, a little rustic but charming and expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp red cherry and strawberry fruit, fine tannin and prudent use of oak. There is focus and precision here, decent length and class. This is a top-notch and utterly delightful Nuits Saint-Georges in the making, surpassing my estimation in barrel. Tasted September 2016.HK$4,170.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, flint, pepper and smoky minerals. Fine-grained and seamless but at the same time vibrant and penetrating, offering lovely inner-mouth lift to the crunchy raspberry and pomegranate flavors. Finishes with subtle saline minerality and smooth tannins. Already very sexy but it would be a shame not to give this premier cru at least five years in the cellar.HK$15,195.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a rather leafy bouquet, perhaps some stem addition here, nicely defined with bay leaf and thyme. It seems to grow in stature in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, moderate acidity but it has clearly shut down towards the finish and feels static. There is a very impressive wine here, however it will need 4-5 years before it entertains the idea of drinkability. Tasted September 2016.HK$10,270.00 -

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots, matured in 50% new oak, has a similar bouquet to the les Fleurières, but here the fruit is one of Confuron’s few that nudges more toward the red side of the fruit spectrum. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with a fine line of acidity. There is ample freshness here, a buxom Vosne endowed with sensuality and purity on the finish.HK$13,595.00 -

(6x75cl) 2013Vinous (91)
On the nose, the 2013 Volnay Les Carelles 1er Cru is the most backward of Thomas Bouley's 2013s, only reluctantly opening with crisp strawberry fruit and rose petal aromas. The palate is a different kettle of fish, marked by excellent sapidity, quite dense and focused, fanning out with gusto towards the persistent finish. I remember Thomas describing this as his baby. It seems to be growing up nicely. Tasted at Goedhuis & Co.'s annual Burgundy tasting in London.HK$4,345.00 -

Riper fruit on the palate with a sort of rhubarb note and loads of cherry and redcurrant. Well integrated leafy bitterness and a long, stately finish.HK$10,835.00 -
Vinous (93-96)
Bright, deep red. Reticent but highly complex scents of raspberry, rose petal, white pepper, red licorice and mint. At once silky and sharply delineated, conveying outstanding intensity without any undue weight. Utterly seamless Chambertin if a bit youthfully linear today. The very long, rising finish is lightly saline and classically dry. Fourrier told me he has no plans to produce more than 30% as much négociant wine as domain wine in future years.HK$23,530.00 -
Vinous (92-94)
Medium red. Alluring floral lift to the aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, crushed stone and sexy oak. Dense, broad and energetic, with a captivating subtle sweetness to the red berry and mineral flavors. Really saturates the palate and builds on the back end, finishing with noble, fine-grained tannins. Fourrier uses the same percentage of new oak to age his négociant and domain wines--around 20%.HK$11,120.00 -

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos appears to have really upped the ante in the last few months. There are more tropical tones on the nose compared to other Chablis les Clos, exotic at first, but it calms down with time in the glass and bestows lovely apricot blossom and quince aromas. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry. Well balanced with a keen thread of acidity, I appreciate the tension and energy here and the salinity that comes through on the aftertaste. This should give 10-15 years of pleasure. Tasted May 2016.HK$1,225.00 -

Medium red. Smoky saline and earth notes on the nose, with red fruits in the background. Inviting flavors of raspberry and flowers are perked up by a minty nuance. A moderately ripe, juicy wine with good energy and a firm tannic spine. Pierre-Jean Roty noted that this wine showed an exotic fruit character during its élevage.HK$890.00 -

This is dense and tannic with beautiful bright fruit such as dried strawberry and mineral. Full body, chewy tannins and a long finish. Very muscular. Try it in 2020.HK$11,460.00 -

Mid crimson. Scented and heady. Super charming. On the nose it’s almost Oregonian! But on the palate there is Burgundian structure. Still a clear framework and ambition; this is not a slack Charmes. Well done for espousing grand cru quality. Needs food if you want to drink it now. But just about ready.HK$20,385.00 -

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques was cropped on October 12, entirely destemmed and underwent a 20-day maceration, spending 13 months in oak. It has a wonderful bouquet: very well defined with forest floor, soy and brambly red berry fruit. There is very good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good depth and harmony with a crisp, white pepper-dashed finish. There is already a sense of completeness here and will be well worth seeking out when released in the spring. It has the hubris to outperform both the Charmes-Chambertin and Clos-de-Bèze!HK$7,925.00
