The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Jadot's six Beaune premier crus, with impressive delineation and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, chalky tannins and a silver thread of acidity interwoven through the dark cherry, iodine, cassis and red currant notes. The finish is structured and exerts a gentle grip, but the persistence is tangible, suggesting that this Clos des Ursules has a long future ahead.HK$4,890.00 -
Vinous (90)
Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Pure rose petal lift to the aromas of raspberry, menthol and spices. Rather plush and smooth in the context of the year but with surprising inner-mouth lift and smoky minerality to energize its red fruit and spice flavors. This fine-grained, savory, youthful wine finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and sneaky length and lift.HK$3,760.00 -
Vinous (90+)
Medium red. Subdued but pure aromas of blueberry, dark cherry and spicy oak. Juicy, tight and intense, with red berry and chocolate flavors accented by pepper and herbs. Offers attractive flesh and sweetness, finishing with a slightly herbal aspect along with oak and menthol notes. This should evolve slowly.HK$3,275.00 -

Vinous (93-95)
Medium red. Deep, brooding aromas of dark berries, brown spices and earth. Extremely introverted on the palate, with strong saline soil tones currently overshadowing the wine's fruit. This finished its malolactic fermentation in July (most of these 2013s finished between March and June of last year) and is clearly behind most of the Gevrey wines here in its development. But this saline, classically dry, very long Bonnes-Mares should prove to be an outstanding wine of terroir 10 or 12 years down the road.HK$11,810.00 -

Full medium red. Medicinal cherry and oak aromas are energized by minerals and pungent blood orange. Very primary and sharply delineated, with bitter cherry and saline mineral flavors complemented by an exotic floral character. Juicy, tightly wound and serious but already conveying strong personality.HK$4,875.00 -

Deep, bright red. Lovely energy and lift to the aromas and flavors of red fruits, brown spices, dried flowers and sexy oak. Broad and dry on the palate, offering superb density and lift and a saline complexity that adds another dimension. This ripely tannic Clos Saint-Denis strikes me as unusually powerful for the vintage and for the cru. But that's no complaint.HK$15,925.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques has a composed bouquet with dark cherry, red plum, a light estuarine influence seeping through with aeration, all with good intensity and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, plenty of blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, tensile with a brisk and quite punchy finish. I thought it might be Bruno Clair's Clos Saint Jacques before its identity was revealed - a classy number from the Jadot team. Tasted September 2016.HK$1,310.00 -

Pale, bright yellow. White peach, menthol and white pepper on the nose, plus a touch of vanillin oak. A tight, subdued Folatières with penetrating rocky minerality; not a floral style. Very backward but has the tactile salty extract to age. Very concentrated and long on the aftertaste. The vines are in the top of the cru, barely 40 meters from Jadot's Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles, notes Barnier.HK$1,070.00 -

The nose is fascinating with rose petal, lemon peel, stone and black cherry. Full-bodied and ultra-fine. It's seamless and goes on and on. Ethereal and refined. A true beauty. Tiny production of six barrels. Part of the vineyard is being replanted. So hard not to drink now, but better in 2018.HK$15,170.00 -

(50% new oak): Deep red. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, menthol and red licorice. Intense and fine-grained, with lovely incipient complexity to the flavors of blueberry, wild herbs and licorice. Like this Clos Saint-Denis, this boasts a very strong, rising finish. Here the tannins are even smoother.HK$2,300.00 -

The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets has a more limestone-scented bouquet, the fruit a little redder than that of Fremiets, opening with wilted rose-petal scents infusing the strawberry and red currant aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a little more flesh than the aforementioned premier cru, but maintaining appreciable balance and minerality that is neatly assimilated on the sappy finish. This should blossom once in bottle. There is class here.HK$6,385.00 -
(3x150cl) 2013Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a feisty, much more gourmand bouquet compared to its siblings at this early stage with almost meaty red berry fruit infused with limestone/flinty scents. The palate is very focused with an abiding sense of symmetry, long in the mouth with fine tannins (although not as filigree as the Taillepieds) but with the same silky and harmonious texture toward the long finish. Excellent.HK$5,430.00 -
(6x75cl) 2013Vinous (89-91)
The 2013 Volnay Clos des Angles is quite powerful and intense for the year. Spice, new leather, menthol and tobacco wrap around a core of dark fruit. Hints of reduction are present today that mask some of the fruit. Nevertheless, the 2013 offers good potential and may turn out to be even better than this note suggests.HK$4,800.00 -
(3x150cl) 2013Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds has an aloof, almost distant bouquet, laconic at the moment, although you can tell that there is plenty of coiled-up fruit waiting within. The palate is usually expressive (as Guillaume d’Angerville himself remarked.) It is very harmonious and perhaps silkier than the Caillerets, the tannins filigree with great detail and precision on the finish. Long in the mouth, this is a seriously fine, elegant Taillepieds.HK$7,285.00 -

Seamless and refined in texture, boasting a superb balance of sweetness and acidity. Great purity and incipient complexity to the flavors of berries, red cherry, minerals and earth.
