The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine line of acidity with good density. Sappy and dense, with a captivating light touch and a compelling sweet/savory balance to the red fruit and licorice flavors. The very long finish features noble tannins and a building spiciness. (Incidentally, Groffier's Bourgogne Pinot Noir, frequently an outperformer for its modest appellation, is a potential knockout in 2013. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru is deeper in color than its peers. There is a slight reduction here but underneath lies some very fine raspberry and black plum fruit, though it needs to demonstrate more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin and then it seems to run out of ideas towards the finish and finishes a little uninspired. Hmm ... this is a Chambertin outclassed by some of Rossignol-Trapet's less revered crus at the moment. The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de l’Orme offers superb quality for a village-level wine. One of the first wines to go through malolactic fermentation, the Clos de l'Orme is already very nicely put together. These 50-70 year-old vines confer richness and persistence, but there is also notable energy in the glass. Citrus-inflected overtones add brightness and exotic flair to the finish.HK$15,795.00
Once again, 2013 was a difficult vintage for the winemakers of Burgundy, but those who were patient and meticulous produced wines of excellent quality. The spring was cold and wet which led to late and uneven flowering. Conditions worsened with a hailstorm in late July which hit areas of Savigny, Beaune, Volnay and Meursault in particular, but a warm and dry August helped fruit to ripen at a critical time. The best of the white wines are truly exceptional in 2013 due to their refreshing acidity which perfectly balanced the impressive purity of of fruit. While the reds were overall less acclaimed than the whites, they showed elegance and sheer drinkability due to their freshness and depth of fruit.
