Moderately saturated medium red. Subdued aromas of red berries, mocha and spicy oak are lifted by a floral quality. Not especially fleshy or sweet but more penetrating than the Clos Saint-Marc, showing good floral lift and more flavor interest. Turns a bit lean and herbal on the back end, though, finishing with slightly dry, dusty tannins and a note of menthol.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc has a complex, quite arresting bouquet with finely tuned dark cherry and raspberry fruit, hints of incense of pressed flowers developing with time. I adore the precision of these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, notes of blackberry and raspberry preserves, a keen line of acidity and a pleasant touch of bitterness toward the long finish. This is another delightful, beautifully sculpted wine from Rion. Tasted September 2017.

Brimming with expressive red fruit aromas like cherries and raspberries, this Pinot Noir offers an astounding depth of flavours flawlessly balanced by harmonious tannins and crisp acidity. Crafted sustainably and harvested by hand, all grapes exhibit maturity at their time of picking for optimum quality.

The Mugneret Gibourg Bourgogne Rouge 2014 was aged in French oak, contributing to its fine structure and elegance. This epitome of a classic Burgundian red, it showcases the terroir with sheer brilliance, making it a lavish addition to any fine wine repertoire.

Healthy medium red; not as dark as the '15. Spicy red fruits, menthol and musky soil tones on the expressive nose, along with the salty aspect of this vintage. Fine-grained, floral and mineral-driven, conveying terrific cut to its strawberry, raspberry and blood orange fruit flavors. But owing to its strong saline minerality, this dense but juicy wine is about much more than primary fruit and is already long on personality. More savory and refined than the very young 2015 if not nearly as massive as that wine. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a lingering spice element. (12.9% alcohol; 3.7 pH, 42 hl/h; harvested on September 21)

(the yield here was a very low 25 hectoliters per hectare owing to hail; no new oak): Inviting high-pitched scents of orange juice, white flowers, ginger and gunflint. Fine-grained and sharply delineated, saturating the palate with youthful flavors of soft citrus fruits, spices and stone. Impeccably balanced but backward today. A lovely essence of Meursault, and an outstanding village wine.

The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean has a composed, mineral-rich, Puligny-like bouquet that revs up in the glass and achieves impressive vigor and focus. The palate is crisp and taut, a fine bead of acidity here, strict and linear but with plenty of fresh green apple, pear and nectarine decorating the finish. This comes recommended and should give 8-12 years of drinking pleasure.

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Paul Pillot's 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1Er Cru les Caillerets had a lot of reduction on the nose that completely obscured the terroir underneath. The palate is balanced with a light honeyed note on the entry, quite rich and generous with a bold, lightly spiced finish that just needs to manifest more mineralité and personality. I much prefer Pillot's La Romanée this vintage.

With sophistication derived from the heart of Burgundy, Pernot Belicard Meursault Vv 2014 presents an enthralling offering from Maison Pernot-Belicard, shining with the unique essence of Meursault. The Domaine is known for crafting wines of outstanding complexity that are true representations of their roots in premier cru vineyards.

Born of 65-year-old vines, Pernot Belicard Meursault Vv 2014 exemplifies the traditional wine-making methods of the domaine. Each cluster was gathered by hand, gently pressed to embody optimal fruit integrity, and then aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 15 months. The meticulous labour reflects in the wine's opulent bouquet, with a harmonious blend of citrus, white flowers, toasted brioche and vanilla.

Pernot Belicard Meursault Vv 2014 tastes magnificently balanced, offering a rich palate, with delicate, honeyed nuances that linger. Revelling in its inception, this treasure captures the soul of Burgundy and the refined mastery of Pernot Belicard.

This really makes you take notice! Satin texture and very savoury. Grapes have to be fresh. Very exciting, even explosive. Very cool but concentrated. Very long indeed.

Wine Advocate (95-97)

The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru seems to offer more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the 2014 Clos-de-Bèze, with cranberry and fresh strawberry, and a touch of damp woodland in the background. It gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied but with great substance and depth than the Clos de Bèze; there is a keen line of acidity cutting through the intense red berry fruit, and wonderful mineralité and tension on the finish. It just gradually gains in intensity before it fans out with a sense of confidence and entitlement, as befitting a Chambertin. This is a superb wine.

Burghound (92-94)

This is cool and pure to the point of being almost timid with its restrained array of red currant, pomegranate, earthy and softly sauvage-inflected nose. There is fine intensity to the sleek and satin-textured flavors that are muscular yet dance across the palate on the saline and wonderfully refreshing finish. This is clearly built-to-age yet it's already inviting.
