    Burghound (86-89)

A super-fresh nose freely reveals its aromas of ripe red and dark berries trimmed in ample earth nuances. The rich and seductively textured middleweight flavors possess solid size and weight before concluding in a long if moderately rustic finale. This is a quality effort for its level

  • Guyon Bourgogne Rouge 2022 (6x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-90)

10% new wood, about to be bottled. The Bourgogne offers a heavenly nose right from the start. All about the fruit which has a darker edge to it. The stem side gives a real tingle. Now some dark red cherries in the fruit. Salty notes at the very back. A tannin or two to finish. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: November 2023.

  • Guyon Chorey-Les-Beaune Les Bons Ores 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (90-92)

The 2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Bons Ores is shaping up very nicely, unfurling with aromas of raspberries, sweet berries and plums complemented by hints of rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's fleshy and charming, with fine depth at the core and a seamless, elegant profile. I can't think of many wines from this appellation operating at this level.

Aromas of plums, wild berries, warm spices and cherries preface the 2020 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Bons Ores, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine that's textural and giving, with a deep core of fruit and ripe, powdery tannins.\\

  • Guyon Chorey-Les-Beaune Les Bons Ores 2021 (1x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-91)

Last to be picked, with plenty of rot to sort out. A deeper purple than the Bourgogne. Marvellous density of deep raspberry fruit. Generous and very pure, with some black raspberry fruit, luscious more than precise but a wine it will be easy to fall in love with. Drink from 2024-2027.

(5 Star Wine) 10% new wood, about to be bottled. A similar rich crimson purple colour. A savoury and stylish deep red fruit on the nose, with spice behind. A pretty fantastic example of Chorey with life and depth, dark cherry fruit. Excellent tension, I think this will be gorgeous. Long, fine and sensual. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: November 2023.

  • Guyon Chorey-Les-Beaune Les Bons Ores 2023 (6x75cl)

5 Star Wine. A huge amount was rejected on the sorting table, 14 barrels worth deselected against 30 barrels made. Typical Guyon fanaticism. An even purple colour, redcurrant and dark raspberry, the whole bunches are better integrated here than in the Bourgogne, with an incredible red fruit sensuality. 15% new wood. Superb balance. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted Nov 2024.

  • Guyon Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (87)

The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is noticeably deeper in color than its peers. The bouquet is quite showy and gregarious, featuring copious black cherry, liquorish and light furniture polish scents. The new oak is too forward for my own preference. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little drier and more conservative than I hoped, and there is a bitter residue on the aftertaste. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

  • Guyon Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

The 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a more intense nose than Berthaut-Gerbet's, offering black cherry, briar, smoke and crushed stone aromas with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of black cherry and blueberry fruit, fine volume and a touch of white pepper toward the finish. This actually grows in the glass. It might be too modern in style for those seeking traditional Pinot Noir, but I love it. Proper Grand Cru. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

  • Guyon Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94-96)

Opening in the glass with notes of sweet plums, warm spices, raw cocoa, loamy soil and wild berries, Guyon's 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with superb depth at the core, rich and powdery tannins and lively balancing acids. Long and resonant, this is a superb proposition for the long haul. This derives from an old-vine parcel just below the Château, next to Jean-Nicolas Méo's holdings.

  • Guyon Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2020 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-97)

Only 30% decorticated as this was the last picked and the team had had enough – but makes an interesting contrast with the others. More purple than black in colour. Still has some rose petals which cannot be common in Clos Vougeot! Super deep with some liquorice behind where the fruit darkens, but up front and on the nose it is more dark raspberry and redcurrant. Not quite so fine tannins when not fully decorticated, it would seem. But a huge follow through. If it were not for the utter brilliance of the Echezeaux, I might score this even higher! • Guyon Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2021 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)

5 Star Wine. A rich dark purple. The nose is astonishing because of its definition. It is a slightly darker and certainly less lushly appealing style. Peppery notes are in balance but the volume of fruit surmounts. This is a fine and very noble example which could well leap ahead of the 2020 in the rankings. There is such a wealth of fruit, on the cusp of red and black, which returns in the very long finish. Bravo. Drink from 2030-2040.

  • Guyon Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2023 (3x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-97)

Last year of his holding, which was a fermage that now belongs to the Domaine des Lambrays. Jean-Pierre has managed to replace this with two excellent sources of grapes from 2024. The 2023 has a heady purple colour. The Clos Vougeot starts in spice and some dark fruit, taking a lot longer than the Vosne 1er cru cuvées to start to show. There is a really solid deep rich concentrated fruit nonetheless with some dark cherries, and more spice to finish. A little more subdued than some, but all is there. Drink from 2030-2038. First picked, 100% decorticated. “This is the best wine I have made in my life”. Rich noble imperial purple. All right, team, this really is it! “Tu le bois avec le nez, you drink it with your nose”. No question here. This completely works as there is not the slightest sensation of cooked fruit. No spitting. I don’t know what to say. Actually I was just formulating the words that this is the finest Echezeaux I have tasted in my life when Jean-Pierre interrupted to say that Michel Bettane thought the same! An intensely seductive lush red velvet fruit covering an entirely perfect bone structure. One of the wines of the vintage. Could be THE wine of the vintage. Tasted: November 2021

5 Star Wine. An astonishing rich imperial purple colour. Possibly it wins in density over and above the Clos de Vougeot. 100% mixed forests, to bottle in April. Fine mid purple. The nose is not so drop dead stunning as the Clos Vougeot but it is still impressive, and then the palate delivers yet more. Some rose petals, some vibrant deep red fruit, chiselled and intense at the same time, nuanced without latticework. Then a firm structure. Looks like becoming a great wine but under the cosh from the Clos Vougeot this year. But there is a breadth of fruit here nonetheless. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: November 2023.
