Jacques Carillon's 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is showing brilliantly from bottle, offering up a classic bouquet of crisp green apple, lemon oil and mandarin, complemented by some subtly exotic, musky top notes that lend this wine an old-fashioned feel and which weren't perceptible from barrel. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and intensely mineral, with more flesh on its bones than the Champ Canet but with a similarly incisive line of acidity, concluding with a long finish. (from a crop level of about 47 hectoliters per hectare): Pale, bright yellow. Ripe aromas of yellow peach, soft citrus fruits and spices. Rounder and riper than usual for this bottling, which is usually more taut in the early going, but without quite the concentration of Carillon's best 2016s. Aged in just 20% oak but one is aware of the wood element as there's only moderate buffering richness. Carillon believes that a rain shower in early September helped these grapes achieve maturity but may have resulted in a bit of dilution.HK$9,745.00 -

Jacques Carillon’s 2016 Puligny-Montrachet Village is showing well from bottle, offering up notes of white peach, crisp apple, citrus zest and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, tensile and tangy, with a crisp, chiseled profile by comparison with the more gourmand, exuberant 2017 rendition—indeed, it's much more tight-knit than it appeared before bottling. It was cropped at some 50 hectoliters per hectare and didn't suffer badly from the frosts. Highly perfumed flavors of blackberry, licorice and fresh herbs. Finishes with very firm tannins and excellent length. Less sweet than the Chambolle samples, yet harmonious from the outset. I may be underrating this. Half of these vines were replanted in 1987, as Mugnier replaced a large-berried, thin-skinned clone that was particularly sensitive to rot.HK$20,526.49 -

The 2003 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has an attractive bouquet of red berry fruit, hoisin, undergrowth and very light peppermint aromas that is fresher than many of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a lactic, chocolaty entry. It is missing the cohesion one usually finds with this cru, although there is good depth and a smudged, cocoa-tinged finish that comes across like a guilty pleasure. The 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is excellent, opening in the glass with notes of peony, ripe cherries, briary fruits, potpourri, dark chocolate and coniferous forest floor—more wild in profile than Mugnier's other wines from Chambolle. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and deep, with impressive power and a long finish. This is quite a dramatic Bonnes Mares by Mugnier's standards, and the only criticism one could make is that it doesn't possess the ineffable sense of completeness that distinguishes his Amoureuses and Musigny. Discussing his Bonnes Mares, Mugnier notes that half of the vineyard was replanted in 1988 and a quarter in 1980.
