The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Vide Bourse 1er Cru just lacks the vigour, the brio of the best wines from this flight, not quite translating the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied, waxy-textured, much more malic than its peers, but it lacks the breadth and depth you expect on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.HK$7,170.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)
The sugar has not quite been fully fermented out. Production is two new 350l new barrels and one wine globe of 220l. The bouquet is really attractive, the fruit having eaten the wood. Not so much on the palate, where some oak remains alongside the fresh plums, and you can see the touch of sugar though under 2g/l remain. Drink from 2027-2035.HK$6,980.00 -

The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Les Fournières 1er Cru is ripe and juicy on the nose: strawberry and raspberry, the oak here more pronounced compared to the Les Vercots. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, saturated tannins and again, here, I find the new oak more pronounced and perhaps just detracting a little from its delineation and mineralité on the finish. Yet once that is fully subsumed, this could turn into quite a substantial Aloxe-Corton.HK$3,145.00 -

Vinous (87-89)
The 2018 Aloxe-Corton Village comes from four parcels in the appellation. It has a backward nose that demands coaxing to reveal tertiary, almost gravelly scents entwined with the black fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers sweet, supple tannins. Elegant for an Aloxe-Corton, with a harmonious, lightly spiced finish. Enjoy over the next decade.HK$2,345.00 -

The 2017 Bourgogne Rouge had been transferred into the blending tank for one week. Despite a touch of reduction on the nose, there is pleasant, brambly red fruit here. The palate is well balanced, offering crunchy cranberry and raspberry fruit and a dash of spice on the finish. Fine.HK$695.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-89)
Deep purple with an exotic exuberant nose, not too cooked. Lovely fresh red fruit despite the more exotic style, floral peony notes, ripe raspberries, relatively dancing, and with good length. Drink from 2025-2038. Tasted: October 2023.HK$1,365.00 -
Vinous (88-90)
Nathalie Tollot mixed the two blends that comprise her 2020 Chorey-lès-Beaune Village. Racked at the beginning of August and comprising 25% new oak, this has a vivid bouquet with small red cherries and blueberry fruit. There is fine delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Quite lithe, pretty, there are veins of dessicated orange peel and tangerine towards the gentle finish. Delicious.HK$1,700.00 -

Earthy nose. Then sweet, charming fruit. Really, what’s not to like if you’re prepared to buy an unfashionable appellation?HK$2,280.00 -
(6x75cl) 2022Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-90)
Not quite as deep a purple and the nose is a little more refined, less exuberant. There is no shortage of quality fruit on the palate, dark raspberry, a few more tannins, but they are ripe enough. The fruit covers the final structure very nicely. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: October 2023.HK$9,587.60 -
Burghound (92)
An attractively layered nose offers up notes of violet, plum, smoked meat hints and plenty of warm earth character to the wild dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent volume to the ripe, intense and powerful large-scaled flavors that exhibit fine intensity on the powerful, balanced and vibrant finish that delivers its usual fine length. This isn't quite a robust as it usually is though it's a big wine all the same and will require an extended cellar siesta. Drink: 2023+HK$4,780.00 -
Burghound (92)
This is quite densely fruited with an unusually expressive mélange of violet, plum, red and black currant, tea and plenty of earth elements. There is very fine volume and plenty of power to the reasonably well-detailed and muscular flavors that delivers outstanding length on the youthfully austere and saline suffused finish. While I envision that markedly more depth will develop there is enough underlying material present that if it does then my predicted score may very well be too conservative as this is very good. Drink: 2023+HK$7,080.00 -
(6x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (92)
Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Tollot-Beaut's 2014 Corton Grand Cru has a clean, pure bouquet with red cherries and cranberry scents that seem to billow with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a sensual opening, plenty of supple red cherry and strawberry fruit with a touch of spice toward the finish. This is a delicious red Corton that should drink well for 12 to 15 years. Tasted September 2017.HK$5,905.00 -
Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2015 Corton Grand Cru has a modest nose following the pair of excellent Aloxe-Corton Premier Crus. The small proportion of whole bunch lends a little forest floor to the mix of broody dark fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin. There is a keen thread of acidity here although it tightens up towards the finish, slams the door shut (for now). Hopefully buyers will cellar this for several years, because it has huge potential.HK$4,465.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Corton Grand Cru comes from the Les Combes climat toward the bottom of the slope. It has a floral bouquet with pressed rose petal aromas flanking the raspberry, strawberry and vanilla aromas. The palate is clean and precise on the entry, displaying good acidity, and quite linear in style, with a strict, tensile finish that is very promising. One to watch once in bottle.HK$15,235.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2020 Corton Grand Cru, which comes from Les Combes as usual (though not on the label), has a lovely nose with brambly red fruit, black truffle and subtle pencil box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, very fine tension and an almost sorbet-fresh, quite mouth-coating finish. It will require time in bottle...but this Corton will be worth the wait.HK$4,710.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-93)
Rich purple, perhaps not quite so dense. Ripe strawberry with some floral rose notes in a concentrated register, then an explosion of blackcurrant, blackberry and some fresher red berry notes as well on the palate, soft and liquid, though the alcohol is showing, at 15%. Tasted: October 2021HK$5,480.00 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an even heavier reduction than David Croix's "C.C." and this seems more fixed despite transferring between glasses. The palate is better with admirable weight and depth. The reduction is still more pronounced than I would prefer, though it is redeemed by a lovely spiciness on the admittedly oaky finish plus there is plenty of vigour and length. How this Corton-Charlemagne will play out depends on what happens to that reduction... it could go either way, hence the question mark against my score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.HK$4,350.00
