Wine Advocate (94-96)Another tour de force from Lamy is the 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haut Densité, a magical wine that unwinds in the glass with notes of crisp Anjou pear, white flowers, citrus oil, warm bread and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, this searingly intense and assertively mineral Saint-Aubin brought tears to my eyes. Sadly, obtaining even a bottle will require considerable guile and a large disposable income, but what pleasures await the lucky few who will taste this profound white Burgundy.

Wine Advocate (97)Whether the 2017 or the 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité is the finer wine will be a fascinating question to debate over the decades to come, but the latter continues to perform brilliantly, mingling aromas of green pineapple, pear and citrus oil with notions of freshly baked bread, toasted nuts and youthful reduction in a compelling bouquet. Full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's rich and layered, with a racy spine of acidity, chalky structure and a long, intensely mineral finish. This is a stunning white Burgundy that takes Saint-Aubin to places that no one would have imagined possible a mere decade ago. It's a monumental achievement from Olivier Lamy, one of contemporary Burgundy's greatest vignerons.

Wine Advocate (96+)The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité is another brilliant rendition of one of contemporary Burgundy's most fascinating wines. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of lime zest, white flowers, wet stones, oyster shell and subtle reduction, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a multidimensional core of fruit that's framed by racy acids and huge reserves of chalky dry extract. Incisive, penetrating and tightly wound, anyone lucky enough to acquire a bottle or two should plan on a minimum of a decade's patience.

Wine Advocate (97)Lamy produced seven barrels of the 2022 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité from this parcel at the top of the slope, planted at densities of up to 30,000 vines per hectare. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, peach and sweet citrus oil mingled with notions of honeycomb, white flowers and toasty reduction, it's medium to full-bodied, dense and layered, with huge reserves of concentration and structuring dry extract, bright animating acids and a long, electric finish. This is another masterpiece from Olivier Lamy.

Vinous (89-91)The 2018 Saint-Aubin Derrières Chez Edouard 1er Cru Rouge was waiting to be racked when tasted from barrel. It has a perfumed, floral bouquet with pressed violets infusing the red and blueberry fruit. The palate is sweet and succulent on the entry. Fine, chalky tannins and compact sweet black cherry fruit define the structured finish. Very fine.

Vinous (88)The 2020 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru (Rouge) comes from vines planted in 1959. The nose is clean and pure, mulberry and bilberry, not complex but focused. The palate is a bit chewy on the entry, a bit of sinew towards the backend at the expense of refinement. Square-jawed.

Vinous (93)The 2010 St. Aubin En Remilly is another gorgeous, complete wine. It shows the brighter, more focused style of village. Citrus, white flowers and crushed rocks all take shape in the glass as this vibrant, chiseled Burgundy opens up in the glass. The finish is long, textured and absolutely impeccable.

Vinous (91-93)(tasted from cuve): Bright yellow. Inviting aromas of elderflower, citrus fruits, smoke and minerals, plus a noble whiff of reduction. Large-scaled, rich and deep, showing good mineral support for the flavors of red grapefruit, peony and warm stones. This boasts the depth of fruit to enjoy young or to hold for seven or eight years. Extremely rich for Saint-Aubin.

Wine Advocate (93)The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly is excellent, offering up a pure and unadorned bouquet of crisp green apples, white flowers and crushed chalk that's classic Lamy. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, stony and saline, with bright, tangy acids and a pure, mineral finish. Right now, it's tight-knit and reserved, so several years' patience is advised.

Vinous (91-93)Aromas of lemon, menthol, crushed rock and ginger, plus a suggestion of spicy oak. Very rich, pliant wine with compelling sweetness and terrific energy to its flavors of crystallized lemon and lime and minerals; there's also a pear note here that reminded me of Chassagne-Montrachet. Conveys a strong impression of sappy density without weight, with the smooth, slowly mounting, gripping finish coating the palate with crunchy fruit and saline crushed-stone minerality. This assemblage of multiple parcels should make an outstanding Saint-Aubin wine.

Vinous (94)The 2018 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru is adorned with an initially oily, almost petrolly nose that recedes to leave aromas of freshly cut lemon plus a subtle algae note. Well balanced with fine acidity, this En Remilly is very cohesive towards the finish with lingering lemon curd and orange rind. Very good length, this is a brilliant wine.

Vinous (94)The 2019 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet that delivers palpable energy and gains complexity in the glass, evoking memories of clambering over cockles in my seaside hometown, a briny tang in the air. The palate is very well balanced with a sapid entry, lovely weight in the mouth and hints of sour lemon on the finish that get the saliva flowing... again! Vinous (91)The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru comes from two parcels. This is perhaps the one cuvée that betrays a bit of exoticism on the nose: apricot and passion fruit, perhaps just eroding a bit of the terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with plenty of body, but for me this doesn't quite deliver the tension and nervosité as Lamy's other cuvées.

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 2021 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru also sports some reduction on the nose like de Montille's En Remilly; however, this seems part of the wine and does not shade the mineralité or terroir profile. The palate is lively and tensile with a citric line of acidity, bright and lemony towards the quite persistent finish. This is a delicious Saint-Aubin that is bursting with energy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
