Wine Advocate (91)

Bursting with aromas of red berries, rose petals, blood orange zest and spices, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with melting tannins and a floral finish. This parcel, planted in 1950 on the well-draining, sandy soils of this lieu-dit on Gevrey's alluvial fan, always produces one of Galeyrand's most extrovert wines.

A clean fresh lemon yellow. The bouquet is just a little more precise and a little more crystalline than Sur La Roche, with possibly greater underlying intensity as well. We are clearly in white fruit territory with a fine mineral backbone. This is stylish and punchy at the same time. Drink from 2027-2034.

The plot is top of the top in positioning .Clear mid yellow colour with a clear-cut bouquet, less opulent than the others, thus works really well for me. Fresher throughout while still clearly ripe, excellent mineral acidity, waves of flavour, harmonious and consistent. Bravo. Little lemon notes throughout keep it fresh. Long classy finish.

In bottle. A fraction paler and tighter on the nose, after bottling. A pretty trace of wood, a little touch of the exotic, the thicker texture of all Valentin's wines this year, generous yellow fruit, low but adequate acidity, no heat though and maybe a saline note to finish.

Again one of the deeper colours. Slightly chunky old fashioned nose. A little more elegance in the finish than the straight Meursault, but maybe this is falling between two stools. Robust with just a little hillside tang to it.
