Vinous (85-87)The 2020 Bourgogne Rouge comes from two parcels, one close to where Les Croix Blanches is located. This has quite a high-toned, very floral bouquet that errs close to Syrah in personality. The palate is ripe on the entry with soft black plummy fruit, a touch of dessicated orange peel on the finish that is just a little short.

Vinous (85-87)The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge offers ripe scents of red cherry and crushed strawberry. Touches of rose petal emerge with time. The palate is nicely balanced with fresh acidity, hints of dried orange peel complementing the dark berry fruit on the finish. Fine.

Vinous (90-92)The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de l’Orme offers superb quality for a village-level wine. One of the first wines to go through malolactic fermentation, the Clos de l'Orme is already very nicely put together. These 50-70 year-old vines confer richness and persistence, but there is also notable energy in the glass. Citrus-inflected overtones add brightness and exotic flair to the finish.

Vinous (87-90)(50% new oak): Good dark red with ruby tones. Slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, smoke, iron, earth and stony minerality. Juicy, intense purple fruit flavors show a fine-grained texture and noteworthy inner-mouth energy. Finishes with excellent length and lift but the spicy tannins come off as a bit drier than those of the Vosne villages, perhaps the result of the recent sulfur addition.

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de l'Orme has a very intense nose compared to Cathiard’s other village cuvées, featuring black cherries, cassis and light blueberry aromas that are supremely well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and wonderful bead of acidity. It tightens up toward the finish, indicative of a wine that is determined to give two decades of pleasure. Just a wonderful Chambolle-Musigny.

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Clos de l'Orme showed just a bit of reduction on the nose, opening up gradually with crushed stone and raspberry/blackcurrant scents. The palate is well balanced with finely chiselled tannins, clean and precise with a vibrant finish. Superb.

Vinous (88-90)(61-year-old vines) Good medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry and smoked meat. Sweet, broad and a bit peppery, without quite the precision of the Orveaux. In a more muscular style, and a bit drier. Firmly structured, but not overly tannic. Cathiard told me he prefers this to the Orveaux.
