Moutonne is one of Chablis' finest expressions and the 2019 will be another in a long list of memorable vintages. Although not the final bottling, it is clear that there is great power here, combined with finesse and a lightness on its feet. Savoury, umami, notes on the finish. Wood is a little evident now but will integrate beautifully once in bottle for 6-12 months. A lovely example, both powerful and restrained.HK$6,935.00 -

The unofficial 'eighth grand cru climat', Moutonne is a very exciting wine in 2022. A very sophisticated grand cru with a complex combination of purity, lift and precision on both the nose and palate, freshened with saltiness and iodine notes to finish. Concentrated with ripe fruit character and a lovely balance between power and elegance really lifting this. Wait for several years before broaching. Tank sample, tasted blind.HK$8,095.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
5 Star Wine. Mid lemon in colour. A broader bouquet on the nose compared to Clos, as if Moutonne had thought about moving further south, while declining to abandon its Chablis roots. A suggestion of honeysuckle alongside the marine elements. Very skilfully poised on the palate. Fresh and racy at the finish with good flesh nicely tamed. Impressively persistent. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024.HK$6,275 - HK$7,665

Grivault’s monopole has produced a wine of superb concentration and depth, with rich aromas of ripe apple, peach and apricots touched with honey and a hint of reduction. The texture is lush and dense, with a finish that lingers sultry on the palate. Split between sand, silt and clay, the unique terroir of the clos gives grapes of extraordinary ripeness, pressed as whole clusters (without sulphur) and fermented in cask with minimal batonnage to give this nuanced, complex result.HK$10,415.00 -

Vinous (93-95)
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Grands Ruchottes 1er Cru has an engaging apple blossom and crushed stone scented bouquet with just the slightest reduction. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and fresh with a very mineral-driven, calcaire finish that leaves the tongue tingling with glee. Superb.HK$3,490.00 -

Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroye 1er Cru has an intense, quite stony bouquet with more yellow flowers here, perfumed with light resinous scents. The palate is very well balanced with a sapid orange pith and white peach-tinged entry. Fine depth, a little richer towards the finish with a persistent aftertaste, this is another appealing wine from Alex Moreau.HK$1,290.00 -

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru reflects its terroir brilliantly on the nose, which offers aromas of wet limestone and flint, beautifully defined and gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is wonderfully balanced with green apples, freshly sliced pear and just a touch of citrus lemon. This is taut, almost Zen-like in style – just as Caillerets ought to be. Superb.HK$1,850.00 -

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has quite a primal grapefruit and crushed stone scented bouquet that takes time to unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with orange rind and citrus peel, quite spicy, especially towards the finish with touches of stem ginger. Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has more intensity on the nose than the Les Vergers, a little richer in style with touches of dried honey and wild peach. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with another quite citric entry, sharp and it sports just the right amount of bitterness, though perhaps the Les Vergers is more pixelated. Still, this is very fine.HK$1,650.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)
5 Star Wine. An even lemon and lime colour. Energy on the nose, not yet so much detail. The palate delivers its usual resounding success, a mass of pure white fruit which builds in intensity to the back and finishes with the lightest of toasty notes which is complementary. Excellent length. Not only is this really good, there are 100 barrels of it!HK$4,170.00
