(25% new oak): Pale yellow color. Deeper and riper on the nose than the Bienvenues, offering scents of peach, spices, flint and menthol. Also fatter and sweeter than the Bienvenues, but at the same time saline and savory. This very rich wine is surprisingly harmonious today but has the reserves to age for a long time. With its almost tannic finish, this impressive Batard shut down in the glass.HK$7,130.00 -

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru hails from a small parcel just below the Marquis de Laguiche's Montrachet holdings, and it's also performing beautifully. Offering up a lovely bouquet of pear, orange oil, white flowers and clear honey that's framed by a deft touch of oak, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and complete, with a deep and layered core, lively acids and a long, expansive finish.HK$6,725.00 -

Glowing primrose. Immediately a nose of majesty, more demonstrative than the Bienvenues, a substantial block of pure deep white fruit, significantly more weight and power in a chiselled white block. It really depends on what you want between these two. Time is needed to be sure that the power of the Bâtard will deliver a wine to equal the grace of the Bienvenues.HK$7,020.00 -

Fresh colour, lemon and lime, not massive at all in bouquet but I am learning not to expect that chez Sauzet. A broad beamed intensity on the palate, this almost seems uncouth after the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, but it still has its finesse. A light oatmeal touch from young (but not new) wood, and a great deal in reserve. A fine and impressive wine, though unlike in most cellars in 2022, I am leaning towards the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet today. But this will definitely work! Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: October 2023.HK$14,645.00 -

The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a little more "control" compared with the Bienvenues. Its bouquet contains crushed limestone and flinty scents intertwined with Granny Smith and sea spray notes. The palate is supremely well balanced with real depth and tension throughout. It's intense and perfectly spiced, with a sense of gravitas on the finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is a very capable Bâtard-Montrachet that will give 20 years of pleasure.HK$19,690.00 -

Pale, green-tinged straw-yellow. Closed, ripe nose hints at citrus peel and honey; smells like small golden grapes. Rich, dense and tactile but at the same time chiseled and delicate; a very feminine style of grand cru. Quite dry and less showy today than the Combettes but explosive on the back half, displaying a distinctive saline character. Hard to judge today and in need of patience.HK$35,040.00 -

Fine pale primrose colour, a nose of both depth and elegance. A suggestion of power in restraint. The palate delivers that burst of energy in harmony with the quintessential grace of Bienvenues. The fruit is on the fresher side yet with a texture that denotes ripeness. It is very persistent, and shows its complexity through the nuances, the wavelets of fresh but ripe yellow fruit which reappear at the finish. From the domaine’s oldest vines, this is really lovely.HK$6,640.00 -

Don't Miss! An overtly floral-suffused nose features notes of lilac, carnation and acacia blossom that are trimmed in spice, citrus rind and soft wood wisps. The strikingly pure and beautifully defined larger-bodied flavors are not super-dense but I very much like the texture, all wrapped in a clean, bone-dry and compact finish that flashes plenty of focused power. This could also use a bit more depth but that shouldn't be an issue. As an aside, for those readers who were Sauzet fans 25-ish years ago, the '21 Bâtard reminds me quite a bit of the 1993, which is one of Sauzet's all-time great vintages.HK$7,725.00 -

A mix from below Puligny and Meursault. Very pale in colour. A slightly waxy note to the nose, not quite in place. All in white fruit with a certain amount of nuance, indeed this continues extremely well through to the back of the palate, very appetising. Just the bouquet to put in place. The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Enseigneres, which sees 15% new oak, has an appealing bouquet with touches of walnut and hazelnut lending a Meursault-like character. The well-balanced palate features clementine and light mango notes. Quite linear and strict, demonstrating fine precision toward the finish. This will be a "correct" Chassagne-Montrachet.HK$14,265.00 -
Vinous (88-90)
The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Enseigneres has a fresh, well defined bouquet with gentle orange blossom and light passion fruit aromas, a little mintiness in the background. The palate is nicely balanced with good concentration from the opening, moderate acidity, harmonious with a fresh, orange rind and quince-tinged finish. A very capable Chassagne to enjoy over the next decade.HK$1,395.00 -

Pale green-tinged yellow. Lively aromas of lime, minerals and powdered stone. Among the most classic and least exotic of these 2008s but already quite showy, with lime and stone flavors given cut by bright acidity. Finishes long, bright and energetic. This is built to age.HK$7,420.00 -
Wine Advocate (94-96)
The 2012 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from grapes stationed at the top of the slope. It has an open, airy bouquet that reveals hints of mint and licorice as it opens up, becoming more exotic with each swirl. The palate is well-balanced, vibrant and complex, certainly evoking a more ostentatious take on the climat with an animated, spicy, mint-tinged finish that fans across the mouth and lingers long after the wine has departed. This tenacious Chevalier-Montrachet brims over with personality and substance, daring to outclass old “Monty”. And you know what? I think it does.HK$5,750.00 -

Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of citrus fruits and rose petal. At once fine-grained and urgent, with harmonious citrussy acidity giving lift to the lemon-lime and floral flavors. Superb mineral energy partly makes up for the wine's lowish acidity (3.7 g/l). Really saturates the mouth and echoes on the finish, without leaving any impression of weight and echoes. Boudot believes that this wine will be good at every stage of its evolution.HK$5,775.00 -
(1x150cl) 2014Wine Advocate (94-96)
The 2014 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru takes a few swirls of the glass to really get going, eventually developing subtle peardrop and nectarine notes that patiently wait behind the stony veneer. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with a fine line of acidity, brisk and lively, hints of peach and pineapple coming through on the seductive and flattering finish that has plenty of roundness. This is just gorgeous, but it needs several years in the cellar.HK$14,795.00 -

The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is step up from the Bâtard and Bienvenue this year with intense citrus fruit, crushed stone/flinty scents with razor-sharp precision. The oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, good concentration, hints of pineapple and grapefruit wrapped up in superb mineralité on the finish. Great length. Outstanding.HK$10,850.00 -

(13.8% natural alcohol): Bright light yellow. Very sexy nose combines iodine, smoke, hazelnut and menthol. Like liquid silk in the mouth; thick but energetic, with flavors of peach, stone, truffle and menthol supported by a strong structural underpinning. The smooth, slow-building finish shows a very fresh mentholated character and a powerful impression of solidity. Deceptively open today owing to its early sweetness, and not at all austere for the cru, but I'd let this one sleep in the cellar for at least five or six years.HK$50,410.00 -
(1x150cl) 2014Vinous (94+)
(one of the three barrels was new): Bright, pale straw-yellow. Rich, nuanced aromas of yellow peach, apricot, white pepper, iodine, clove and smoky oak. Wonderfully rich, deep and sweet, displaying strong extract and a powerful, chewy, rising finish. Finishes peppery, broad, saline and rich, with a tannic impression and excellent length. This wine is vinified at Baron Thénard, the source of these grapes, with barrels provided by Sauzet, then moved back to Sauzet's cellar in mid-winter. This slightly peppery, saline Montrachet does not have the distinction of the Chevalier-Montrachet but boasts terrific power and solidity.HK$25,570.00 -
(3x75cl) 2015Vinous (94)
Bright, light yellow. Discreet nose offers scents of flowers and iodiney minerality; not at all exotic for Montrachet from a warm, sunny year. Then superripe and rich on the palate, conveying an almost oily concentration to its flavors of ripe apricot and mandarin orange enlivened by brisk citrus notes. With two grams per liter residual sugar, this wonderfully smooth, seamless wine comes across as deceptively easygoing. There's nothing austere about this beauty, which finishes with slowly mounting length.HK$32,665.00
