At once superripe and precise, and fresh and very long on the aftertaste. This was picked at the beginning of the harvest, with potential alcohol of 13.8%. This is slightly more complex if a bit less elegant with its equally broad-ranging nose of apple, pear, white flowers and mandarin orange, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to warrant mentioning. There is outstanding volume to the concentrated, powerful and palate coating flavors that are supported by a firm acid spine on the tension-filled and massively persistent finish. This is a big yet well-balanced Bâtard that should age for a very long time yet be approachable after only 5-ish years or so.HK$7,950.00 -

Compared to the premier crus at this address, this wine offers another dimension on the nose, with aromas of pear, white flowers, almond and hazelnut complemented by deeper-pitched soil tones and a hint of dried fruits. Hugely rich but surprisingly energetic on the palate, conveying seamless flavors of yellow and dried fruits and salty minerality. Totally saturates the mouth and mounts on the back end without leaving any impression of heaviness. Boillot told me that the 2017 version of this wine is a bit higher in acidity but this bottle boasts excellent verve.HK$17,495.00 -

There is no sign of the reduction on the palate. An exceptional example with more tension at the back, great potential for the long term. The holding is right in the middle of Bâtard-Montrachet, with rows all the way up and down. Mid yellow. A weighty punchy bouquet, not quite so fine. Massive on the palate and the fruit takes on a whiter, not over ripe configuration, with excellent thread of acidity. Still an absolute baby but will certainly achieve its grand cru status. Penetrating, savory flavors of lemon, lime, peach and crushed stone convey an impression of power without weight. Really terrific fruit and mineral intensity here. (Don't Miss!) A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. Like the Chevalier and Montrachet, this beauty of a Corton-Charlemagne is presently very tightly wound and is going to need extended patience to arrive at its peak. The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is fabulous. Bright and effusive, with terrific depth, the 2023 captures all the energy that is typical of the best Charlemagnes. Crushed rocks, mint, sage, chamomile, dried flowers and tangerine oil race across the palate. The Charlemagne is often one of the best wines here, as it is again in 2023. Clean pretty pale primrose, with a brilliant tensile concentration through the middle, not very Meursault this terroir but extremely persistent and makes Genevrières alongside seem a bit massive.
