The 2016 Viré-Clessé wafts from the glass with notes of musky peach and dried white flowers, framed by sublet reduction. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, tense and racy, with good depth at the core and an attractive sense of completeness. It will need some time in the cellar to unwind after bottling, but it's an elegant, vibrant interpretation of the appellation that ranks as one of Lafon's best cuvées this year.HK$3,320.00 -

A more restrained nose is comprised by aromas of white peach, citrus confit and acacia blossom. There is excellent density to the succulent and saliva-inducing middle weight flavors that possess an appealing underlying tension while exhibiting a lovely salinity on the solidly persistent, youthfully austere and satisfying complex finish. This too offers fine quality.HK$4,790.00 -

The 2018 Bourgogne Blanc Les Chatagnière comes from four parcels within the titular climat and sees just a tiny amount of new oak. The nose is a little occluded at the moment, but the palate is well balanced with a lovely texture and a hint of brioche on the finish.HK$2,955.00 -

(from redder soil over rock; 30 hectoliters per hectare produced): Pale yellow. Aromas of iodine, crushed rock and spicy oak. Chewy and densely packed but quite backward, currently dominated by wet stone and mineral notes. Finishes powerful but youthfully austere, with a repeating wet stone character. Lamy has been planting part of this vineyard at high density, but this fruit is not yet part of the wine. (Incidentally, Lamy did not make a Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macharelles in 2016 owing to the frost.)HK$29,700.00 -

The 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles was broody, obdurate and stubbornly closed on the nose when tasted out of barrel, but with encouragement reveals some lime leaf and even peppermint aromas. A tantalizing glimpse of what is to come? The palate is well-balanced with a taut entry and it demonstrates impressive weight, although compared to some of Olivier’s other crus in 2012, I was seeking a little more tension and complexity on the finish.HK$8,350.00 -
(12x75cl) 2019Vinous (89-91)
The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru has a pretty nose with candied orange peel and light oily/linseed aromas. The palate is taut on the entry with good weight, bitter lemon and apricot notes. The grippy and quite phenolic finish has satisfying length. It should age well over 12-15 years.HK$16,990.00 -

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru comes from red clay soils planted in 1988. This is cut from a different cloth to Lamy's Saint-Aubins: chamomile, white tea and light hazelnuts, almost Meursault-like in style. The palate is tensile on the entry, with fine bitter lemon notes intermixed with peach skin and stem ginger that give the final third an additional dimension. Quite persistent, this is a very serious Chassagne that should age with style.HK$9,855.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Concis de Champs had wild variations in potential alcohol and acidity levels, caused by differing rootstocks, vine ages, pruning techniques, etc., that made it difficult for Olivier Lamy to pick. This has a bright red apple and lime bouquet that feels well defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and very pure. A lovely touch of bitter lemon enlivens and lends edge on the finish. Excellent.HK$10,435.00 -

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet La Concis de Champs has an expressive bouquet with orange blossom and mandarin notes, touches of peppermint emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with Granny Smith and a touch of peach skin, gently building towards the finish in possession of Premier Cru intensity. Excellent.HK$8,850.00 -

The 2020 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Haute Densité is a worthy follow-up to the stunning 2019. Wafting from the glass with aromas of lime zest, white flowers, crisp stone fruit, wet stones and youthful reduction, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its satiny attack segueing into a layered, tightly wound mid-palate that's built around racy acids and chalky extract. Concluding with a long, resonant finish, this is one of the most exciting wines being produced in contemporary Burgundy.HK$55,050.00 -

As usual, there's only one barrel of the 2022 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Haute Densité, a glorious wine that will richly reward anyone able to attain a bottle—and to exercise the patience required to enjoy it at its best. Unwinding in the glass with notes of sweet orchard fruit, orange oil, oyster shell, freshly baked bread and wheat toast, it's full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a deep and multidimensional core of fruit, racy acids and a long, chalky finish. It's the king of the cellar, but it's also the most reserved wine in the range and really needs some time to show all its cards.HK$24,770.00 -
