The 2017 Chablis, a blend of sites all in Courgis, is sublime. Creamy, ample and layered, the 2017 is a fabulous introduction to these wines. Lemon confit, mint, apricot and sweet floral notes are all laced together in a Chablis of total nuance and class. Rich and oily on the palate with superb textural intensity, the 2017 Chablis is a real winner. Aging in steel keeps the flavors bright. What a wine. All of the wines in this range are terrific, but I would be tempted to go for the straight Chablis.

Pale lime and lemon. More electric on the nose with a slight citrus too. Clean white fruit at the front of the palate, more power behind, a good example but not quite the precision of the finest. The finish continues well and shows a riper countenance. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted: October 2023.

The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean has a composed, mineral-rich, Puligny-like bouquet that revs up in the glass and achieves impressive vigor and focus. The palate is crisp and taut, a fine bead of acidity here, strict and linear but with plenty of fresh green apple, pear and nectarine decorating the finish. This comes recommended and should give 8-12 years of drinking pleasure.

Burghound (89-92)

There is just enough reduction present to blur the distinctions between the various fruit and floral elements. The seductive yet reasonably well-delineated medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely mouth feel thanks primarily to the abundant level of dry extract that coats the palate on the lightly mineral and citrus-tinged finish. This is one of those wines that is so exuberantly delicious that it will be hard to resist young.
