The 2014 Alpilles Rouge is in a gorgeous place right now. Dried herbs, rose petal, mint, sweet red cherry, licorice and pipe tobacco give the 2014 tremendous aromatic nuance and overall presence. The 2014 is an especially mid-weight, gracious Trévallon that is just starting to drink well. While it may not have the richness of some of the other vintages in this report, the 2014 is exquisitely beautiful today. The 2017 Alpilles Rouge is flat-out delicious. Ripe, plummy and forward, the 2017 offers tremendous immediacy. If I didn’t know how well Trévallon ages, I would be tempted to set an earlier drinking window, but the best is clearly yet to come. Next to other vintages that display a good bit of ripeness, the 2017 remains medium in body and silky. Sweet red berry fruit, flowers, cedar and earthy notes lead into the vibrant, translucent finish. I hope I can capture just how captivating the 2017 is.HK$13,410.00 -

The 2009 Alpilles Rouge is a powerful, brooding wine. It is also the most reticent of the five wines in this report. I don’t see the aromatic nuance, textural richness or finesse of the best years. Instead, the 2009 comes across as brooding and a bit monolithic. Of course, it is possible the 2009 is in that transition from a young to an older wine. We shall see. Today, it is pretty bombastic, with plenty of dark fruit, leather, smoke, game and scorched earth notes that add to its virile character.
