Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-92)80% whole bunches. Mid purple, not the deepest. It was necessary to be very careful in the vinification to avoid the wine showing too much Morey character, I am told. The bouquet is light, within the context of Virgile’s wines, quite floral, and with certainly a pleasing finesse across the palate, adequate acidity and very good length. A very accomplished Chambolle. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Nov 2024. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 70% whole bunches. It offers commingling red and black fruit on the nose, with loam and touches of citrus fruit. Focused if just missing a little complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and just the right amount of dryness. Hints of dark chocolate interlace the dark berry fruit on the finish. Traces of cola arrive on the aftertaste. Drink over the next 15 years. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru contains 100% whole bunch and no new barrels this year. It has a very intense bouquet of strong undergrowth and bay leaf/rose petal aromas, very well defined and showing more complexity than the Clos de la Roche. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, layers of black-tea-infused black fruit and a slightly grainy-textured finish that is extremely well balanced. This is a class act. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is made with 100% whole bunches and matured in used oak this year and that is evident on the nose with open, transparent scents of blackberry, briary and crushed rock aromas. Less opulent than the Clos de la Roche, this is slightly more austere but no less captivating. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, great depth and cohesion, structured towards the finish with touches of melted tar and tobacco. Superb. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Bertin is 100% whole cluster this year. The stems are neatly assimilated on the nose with traces of black pepper and freshly tilled loam. The palate is medium-bodied, lively and quite assertive with striking black peppery notes on the entry. It has gentle grip and stems that define the finish, but there is sufficient fruit to soak them up with age. This will be intriguing to watch mature in bottle. |

Burgundy | 1 | 89-92 (VN) | HK$860.00 | |||||
Vinous (89-92)(80% vendange entier): Good dark red. Purple fruits, saline minerality and bitter chocolate on the nose, lifted by a violet topnote. Juicy, precise and intensely flavored; this has the energy and fruit to support the stem component. Much fresher and more delineated than the Charmes, finishing with good mineral lift. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Aux Chezeaux 1er Cru contains 100% whole bunches fruit this year. That comes through on the nose with more tangible sous-bois and black pepper elements, quite open with dusky black fruit and black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very lithe in the mouth, the whole bunches are tangible but not overriding fruit or terroir expression. Delicate touches of cracked black pepper and clove line the finish that exerts a gentle but insistent grip. Excellent. |

Vinous (88)Ruby-red. Complex, expressive nose combines tarry black fruits, licorice, roasted herbs, underbrush and brown spices, plus oak notes of chocolate and mocha. Lush, suave, warm and very ripe but not roasted or cooked. Quite rich, sweet and chocolatey in the middle, but not quite as sweet as the Faconnieres. Finishes with building, oak-powered tannins and just a hint of raisin. |
