The 2018 Les Grandes Murailles was too reduced for me to assess out of barrel, but I am pleased to say it is blossoming now that it is in bottle. It has a gorgeous black cherry, blueberry, violet and peony nose that is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and generous. A counterbalancing salinity keeps the finish focused and fresh. This is an excellent Les Grandes Murailles that should age with style. Superb.HK$4,890.00 -

The 2012 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is dark, voluptuous and immediate. A burst of sweet red plums, smoke, graphite, licorice and tobacco hits the palate. The tannins are sweet but also energetic. Extroverted in style, the 2012 also has enough depth and overall density to drink well for another decade or so. Rose petal, iron and white pepper add the final shades of nuance. Here in its first vintage, Les Griffons is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot.HK$4,290.00 -

The 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is dense, powerful and quite juicy, with plenty of black cherry, menthol, licorice and smoke overtones nuances that all build in the glass. Polished and racy to the core, the 2015 is a terrific choice for drinking over the next decade or so.HK$5,210.00 -

Glossy, dark crimson – very dense. Rich and racy and much more subtlety than the Tourelles. Inky finish. Good energy.HK$4,170.00 -

Tasted blind. Sweet and polished and quite refined. Fairly Merlot-influenced (though 52% Cabernet). Masses of pleasure here! Even if it’s not for the long term.HK$4,265.00 -

This is the second wine of Pichon Baron. Its juicy richness echoes the top wine of the estate with its structure and powerful fruits. The texture though has a lightness that means it will mature relatively quickly. Drink from 2026.HK$1,655.00 -
James Suckling (93-94)
A punchy red with blackberry and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, yet extremely refined and polished with a long finish. 50% merlot, 42% cabernet sauvignon and 8% petit verdot.HK$1,765.00 -
(3x150cl) 2021Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)
It is the second year in a row that Les Griffons de Pichon Baron contains Petit Verdot (11%). The fragrant bouquet, perhaps more floral than usual, features scents of pencil box, undergrowth, black fruit and just a hint of violet from the Petit Verdot. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, and quite compact compared to the Grand Vin. Linear and strict on the finish despite the 44% Merlot, with good grip. Perhaps just denied the amplitude of a great growing season, but I can see this aging well in bottle.HK$2,980.00 -

Floral and citrus-driven top notes reappear on a long, sustained finish supported by chalky notes. This is a terrific vintage for the Griffons.HK$1,835.00 -

The 2018 Les Hauts du Tertre has a pretty blackberry and cranberry bouquet, nicely defined though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity and some new oak (30%) still to be subsumed on the finish, though there is decent length. This should give several years of drinking pleasure.HK$1,295.00 -

The 2019 Les Hauts du Tertre is an alluring second wine. Deep on the palate, with striking depth and complexity, Les Hauts is absolutely delicious. The aromatics are especially present and give quite a bit of lift to the red berry fruit. This is one of the best editions I can remember tasting of Les Hauts du Tertre. My tasting with General Manager Alexander Van Beek and Estate Manager Lorenzo Pasquini was one of the highlights of several weeks of the Zoom calls all of us will remember from this very particular campaign. At du Tertre, Van Beek and Pasquini have overseen a major redevelopment of about 65% of the property in favor of higher density vineyards. The wines have at times been a bit light, especially in the mid-palate, but the 2019s are quite successful in that regard, in all regards actually. Cuvaison was 21 days at a cool 24 degrees Celcius. Eric Boissenot is the consulting oenologist. Needless to say, it will be fascinating to see what future vintages bring.HK$1,170.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (87-89)
The 2021 Les Hauts du Tertre has a perfumed bouquet of blackberry and pencil box scents, nicely detailed and the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied and very Médoc-like, with a peppery opening, good depth, just the right amount of dryness and a tobacco-infused finish. This is a perfectly capable Deuxième Vin to drink over 10 years after bottling.HK$1,150.00 -

The 2021 Mâcon-Bussières, a blend of different parcels, has a strict and more focused nose compared to the other cuvées. Airy with Granny Smiths and pear.
