The Maryline & Christophe Billon Cote Rotie Les Elotins 2016 embodies the makers' passion for time-honoured wine producing traditions. Crafted in the prestigious Cote Rotie region of France's Rhone Valley, notable for its incredibly steep, terraced vineyards, this red wine exemplifies the rich complexities for which the estate is renowned. The gleaming ruby-hued wine has been attentively fermented in a combination of aged stainless steel and oak barrels, resulting in a fine-tuned harmony of acidity and fruitiness, underpinned by a robust tannic structure. Revel in the scintillating amalgam of blackcurrant, raspberry and spice, balanced with smoky and earthy undertones. The husband and wife vintners, Maryline and Christophe Billon, have a reputation as meticulous and innovative performers in the region's wine industry, a fact evident in each bottle of Cote Rotie Les Elotins 2016 they produce. Experience their dedication with this wine, an emblem of their exceptional viticulture. |

Wine Advocate (95)The largest cuvee (20,000 bottles) is the 2010 Cote Rotie Classique, Stephane Ogier’s “greatest vintage to date.” Seventy percent of the fruit comes from their holdings on the Cote Brune. It boasts a dense purple color along with a sweet nose of asphalt, licorice, forest floor, blackberries, cassis and bouquet garni, sensational concentration and sweet tannins. The structure, freshness and minerality suggest another 3-4 years of cellaring may be beneficial. It has 25 years of potential evolution. |

Wine Advocate (98)Even better (yet we split hairs here), the 2011 Cote Rotie La Belle Helene, which comes all from the Cote Rozier lieu-dit, possesses a liquid rock-like minerality to go with notions of black raspberry, smoked meat, graphite, black olive and underbrush. The most masculine, firm and concentrated in the lineup, it has full-bodied richness, rocking concentration and masses of ultra-fine tannin that build on the palate. It’s approachable now due to the overall quality of the fruit and tannin, yet it will be better in another couple of years, and drink well for two decades. |

Wine Advocate (96+)The inky-colored 2013 Côte Rôtie Belle Helene is another beautiful wine that shines more for its purity and elegance than overt power and richness. Black fruits, wood smoke, caramelized meats and hints of beef blood all flow from this full-bodied, mineral-laced, focused and chiseled Côte Rôtie that needs 5-7 years of cellaring and will keep for another 15+ years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)One of the wines of the vintage, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Belle Helene is up there with the handful of greatest young Syrahs I've ever been lucky enough to taste. Coming all from the Côte Rozier lieu-dit in the northern portion of the appellation, just above Guigal's la Landonne lieu-dit, this majestic wine offers incredible blue fruits, liquid violets, olive tapenade, and aged meats. Full-bodied, ultra-fine, deep, concentrated, and as seamless and pure as it gets. It's already approachable (which is rare for this cuvée) due to its perfectly ripe tannin, yet will need 7-8 years of bottle age and keep for 2-3 decades. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)Pure perfection in a glass, the 2018 Côte Rôtie La Belle Hélène is all Syrah mostly from the Rozier lieu-dit (there’s a tiny amount from Landonne) that was not destemmed and was brought up in a mix of demi-muids and Burgundy barrels, all of which were once- or twice-used. A wine that will stop any Côte Rôtie lover in their tracks, it has a heavenly bouquet of ripe red, blue, and black fruits as well as spicy, cured meat, chocolate, and ground pepper-like nuances that develop beautifully with time in the glass. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with ultra-fine tannins and perfect balance, it’s a wine that delivers an incredible amount of intensity and richness, yet with purity and elegance. Legendarily juice, it warrants 7-8 years of bottle age and will be a 30-year wine! |

Vinous (96)Vivid purple. Powerful, mineral-accented black and blue fruit liqueur, incense and floral pastille aromas take on exotic spice and licorice nuances with aeration. Sappy and deeply concentrated, offering sappy blueberry, cassis and fruitcake flavors that are given vibrant lift by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. The mineral note drives an extremely long, energetic, blue-fruit-dominated finish, where chewy tannins provide shape and solid grip. This a distinctly deep rendition of this bottling, but the usual precision is there as well. |

Vinous (93)Inky purple. Black and blue fruits, vanilla and potpourri on the seductively perfumed nose. Offers intense cassis and boysenberry flavors lifted by gentle acidity, gaining in spiciness with air. Very rich and expansive but there's good energy here as well. The finish clings with superb tenacity, the spice and blue fruit notes repeating. |
