  • Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines 2015 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

Only produced in top vintages (this is the first since 2012), the 2015 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines comes from 80-year-old vines within the La Fontaine lieu-dit. It's a tough wine to evaluate at this stage, as it's quite closed and reticent on the nose, showing some crushed-stone notes and typical granite-based austerity, but on the palate it shows great purity of fruit and vigor. It's full-bodied but tight-laced, focused on driving through the long finish like a thoroughbred down the stretch. Give it at least 5 years in the cellar.

Opaque ruby. Powerful, spice- and mineral-accented black and blue fruit preserve scents show superb focus and pick up smoked meat, olive and potpourri nuances with air. Sappy, deeply concentrated and energetic as well, offering juicy, spice-driven cassis, blueberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that are firmed by a core of smoky minerality. Blends power and finesse with a sure hand and finishes extremely long and minerally, with steadily building tannins and resonating blue fruit and floral notes. Made with one-third whole clusters.

  • Alain Voge Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines 2022 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94+)

Derived from the lieu-dit La Fontaine, which boasts multiple orientations—northeast, east and south—this cuvée is not produced every vintage; for example, 2021 was blended into the Vieilles Vignes. The 2022 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines evokes a complex, dense and vibrant bouquet of spices, dark wild berries, mulberries and flowers. Full-bodied, satiny and dense, the wine features a deep, fleshy core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, aromatic and lively finish. Fermented with 30% whole bunches and matured in new barrels, I suspect it will emerge as the king of the cellar after 10 to 15 years of aging.

    Wine Spectator (94)

Ripe, intense and very pure, offering a gorgeously sleek, polished beam of cassis, plum sauce and raspberry fruit, lined with mouthwatering iron, lavender and rosemary notes. The long finish has serious cut. Best from 2015 through 2030. 250 cases imported.
  • Alain Voge Cornas VV 2015 (1x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (96)

Lieux-dits Mazard and La Côte, 80% destemmed, aged in barriques for 20 months, 15% new. A touch of oak influence on the nose brings some further complexity here. It also serves to temper the tannins a little and round off the coarser edges. This is nonetheless robust in texture, and very long, but the fruit is perfectly ripe and savoury. Classic stuff, in a traditional mould.

Vines with an average age of 60 years from lieux-dits Combe, Patou, La Côte, Les Mazards and Chaillot provide the fruit for this Cornas. It spends 20 months in barriques, around 20% new. There are multiple layers to the aromatic palate: rosemary, thyme, herbal bitters, blackberry, blackcurrant and loganberry. A medium-bodied, concentrated but unforced wine with no excessive extraction, a subtly spiced finish and sinewy, brushed tannins. Detailed, focussed, structured and textural, this is captivating and true to its terroir.

The 2023 Condrieu Clos Chanson needs time to open up, gradually displaying classic peachy and apricot tones mingling with dried blossoms and lemon peel. Medium to full-bodied and refined, the 2023 lands with elegant persistence on the bright long finish.
  • Andre Perret Condrieu Coteaux de Chery 2013 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93+)

Brought up in 20% new oak, the 2013 Condrieu Coteau du Chery is a bigger, richer, more concentrated wine in the vintage than the Clos Chanson (which is the opposite from 2014). A touch unruly at the moment and in need of six to 12 months in bottle, it offers serious notes of caramelized stone fruits, apple blossom and honeysuckle to go with full-bodied richness, a big mid-palate, and plenty of cut and definition on the finish. It should be at its best from 2017-2021.
