France holds a special place in the world of rosé wines. The country's dedication to craftsmanship and terroir-driven winemaking has resulted in the creation of exceptional rosé wines that continue to captivate enthusiasts around the globe. Today, let us embark on a journey through the best rosé wines that France has to offer, exploring the renowned vineyards and the diverse regions that give birth to these exquisite pink elixirs.
In Provence, the birthplace of French rosé, vineyards such as Château d'Esclans, Domaines Ott, and Château Miraval craft some of the most sought-after rosé wines in the world. These vineyards are revered for their commitment to quality and their ability to capture the essence of Provence in each bottle. Provence rosés are known for their pale pink color, delicate aromas, and refreshing flavors of red fruits, citrus, and herbs.
Moving to the Rhône Valley, the region of Tavel shines as the home of exceptional rosé wines. Domaine de la Mordorée, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne, and Château d'Aquéria are among the renowned vineyards that produce rich and expressive Tavel rosés. These wines exhibit a deeper color and a more robust structure, showcasing flavors of ripe berries, floral notes, and a touch of spice.
In the Loire Valley, the vineyards of Sancerre and Anjou offer distinctive expressions of rosé. Domaine Vacheron and Domaine Guiberteau are known for their vibrant and mineral-driven Sancerre rosés, while Château de Brézé and Domaine des Roches Neuves produce elegant and complex Anjou rosés.
The region of Bandol in Provence is synonymous with powerful and age-worthy rosé wines. Domaine Tempier, Château Pibarnon, and Domaine de la Tour du Bon are celebrated for their structured and deeply flavored Bandol rosés, characterized by their depth, intensity, and ability to age gracefully.
France's rosé wines are celebrated for their versatility and ability to complement a wide range of cuisines. From fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes to summer salads and light appetizers, these wines offer a harmonious marriage of flavors that enhance any culinary experience.

Pale greyish salmon pink. Quite a bit of Pinot nectar on the nose. Very straightforward. Tight and a tiny bit phenolic on the end – a bit like the 2005. Maybe not quite as beautifully integrated as the 2005. Slightly sweet.HK$8,575.00 -

A totally breathtaking wine, the 1995 Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 is a fitting conclusion to this tasting. Crushed flowers, sweet tobacco, cedar and dried cherry give the 1995 fabulous aromatic complexity and nuance. Deceptive in its ethereal feel, the 1995 has lovely palate presence and tons of class. It is both mature and timeless, in the way only Champagne can be.HK$10,535.00 -

Dom Pérignon’s 1996 Rosé P2 is rich, vertical and explosive, with that combination of structure and inner perfume that makes it so alluring and so flat-out delicious.HK$11,785.00 -

The 2000 Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 is even better than the last time I tasted it. This is an espeically fine bottle. Rich, plush and enveloping, the 2000 is a magnificent Rosé from the Richard Geoffroy era. Kirsch, blood orange, spice and rose petal race across the palate. I especially admire the wine's breadth and vinous intensity, signatures of the house style at the time. Magnificent.HK$10,925.00 -

(1x75cl) 1985Vinous (96)
A wine of real power and intensity, the 1985 Dom Pérignon Rosé is exceptionally beautiful tonight. The flavors are rich, layered and expansive. Hints of caramel and hazelnut add nuance to a core of expressive red berry fruit, but it is the wine’s textural generosity that is most impressive considering the 1985 is now thirty years old. The 1985 is not an eternal wine, but it has reached a glorious plateau of maturity. Wow!HK$9,090.00 -

The 1996 Dom Pérignon Rosé was a knock out. It showed terrific clarity in its perfumed, sweet fruit, roses and spices, with notable balance and superb classiness.HK$26,715.00 -
(3x75cl) 2000Vinous (96)
The 2000 Dom Pérignon Rosé is just starting to enter its first plateau of maturity. Sweet tobacco, mint, dried flowers, rose petal, game, licorice and tobacco add myriad shades of aromatic nuance. This is the first vintage in which former Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy started bumping up the percentage of still Pinot in his quest to make a more vinous Rosé. Naturally, some of the sheer intensity the 2000 showed as a young wine has faded. More importantly, I find the 2000 in a transitional phase where it is settling into the next stage of its life. For that reason, I would prefer to cellar it for at least a few years.HK$10,225.00 -

A wine of pure and total pleasure, the 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé is explosive and hedonistically rich, with tons of pure texture from the 28% still Pinot in the blend. In this tasting, the 2004 Rosé is especially fine. I imagine it will reward readers lucky enough to own it with several decades of exceptional drinking. In a word: sublime.HK$14,785.00 -

A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for mintutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better.HK$6,725.00 -

The Dom Perignon Rosé 2006 is simply amazing. Notes of raspberry, spices and mint jump from the glass in a seductive combination. This shows incredible depth of fruit with strawberry, cherry and phenolics. Full-bodied and layered with an incredible, three-dimensional element to the wine. This is so transparent and dynamic with dark fruit, yet it remains vivid and bright. Refined and precise, it goes on and on. Really savory, fresh and incredibly pinot-noir-like. What a wine. 13 years of maturation in the bottle. So drinkable now, but it will age for many years ahead.HK$3,335.00 -

Wine Advocate (96)
The 2000 Dom Perignon Rose is a flashy, ripe Champagne that screams Pinot to a degree I have never encountered in another vintage of this wine. A dark, intense color leads to a Chambolle-like nose followed by endless red berries, flowers and spices, all backed up with plenty of muscle, richness and density. The wine continues to blossom on the palate, with utterly beguiling detail, clarity and polish, all qualities that resonate on the rich, expansive finish. The 2000 Dom Perignon Rose is 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, of which 25% is still Pinot. Geoffroy says his goal was to make a statement with the 2000 Dom Perignon Rose; he has done that?and so much more. In fact, the 2000 seems to signal a stylistic shift towards a more important, serious style of rose. This superb wine is not to be missed, but readers should note this is no easygoing rose, rather it is a Champagne that demands serious attention. The 2000 will test the limits of what readers expect from a Dom Perignon Rose, but the wine is simply marvelous. I loved it. This bottle was disgorged in 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025.HK$9,180.00 -

The 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé is every bit as captivating as it was last year, maybe even more so. At times powerful, but in other moments finessed, the 2006 constantly changes in the glass, revealing a different shade of its personality with every taste. Perhaps most importantly, the 2006 seems to have gained a level of precision and pure sophistication it did not show last year, when it was quite a bit less put together. Back then, the 2006 was a wine of tremendous potential; today that potential is starting to be realized. Quite simply, the 2006 Dom Pérignon Rosé is a magical Champagne. Don’t miss it.HK$16,940.00 -
