(1x75cl) 2007Vinous (95)
The 2007 Vin de Pays du Bouche du Rhône Rouge is a wine of pure and total pleasure. Ripe, racy and exotic, the 2007 possesses tremendous richness from the very first taste. But there is more to the 2007 than just flamboyance. It remains a very young wine, mostly built on fruit, with not a lot of aromatic nuance. I imagine that will come with time. Today, the 2007 is a wine to admire for its power, structure and potential. Super-ripe black cherry, coffee, licorice and dark spice are some of the nuances that linger on the substantial finish. This bottle was released from the domaine in 2020.HK$1,130.00 -
Vinous (96)
I am utterly blown away by the 2010 Alpilles Rouge, a re-release from the winery’s cellar. Still so fresh and vibrant, the 2010 is just stunning in its beauty today. Time in bottle has brought with it lovely complexity, especially in the aromatics. On the palate, though, the 2010 is so young. Swaths of tannin and bright acids suggest the 2010 still needs time to be at its best. As for the wine’s pedigree and quality, those are unmistakably world-class. Readers who can find the 2010 should not hesitate. It’s one of the rare values in fine, ageworthy red wine. This bottle was released from the domaine in 2020.HK$8,500.00 -

The 2014 Alpilles Rouge is in a gorgeous place right now. Dried herbs, rose petal, mint, sweet red cherry, licorice and pipe tobacco give the 2014 tremendous aromatic nuance and overall presence. The 2014 is an especially mid-weight, gracious Trévallon that is just starting to drink well. While it may not have the richness of some of the other vintages in this report, the 2014 is exquisitely beautiful today. I expect it will age gracefully on its acids and overall balance.HK$12,745.00 -

The 2017 Alpilles Rouge is flat-out delicious. Ripe, plummy and forward, the 2017 offers tremendous immediacy. If I didn’t know how well Trévallon ages, I would be tempted to set an earlier drinking window, but the best is clearly yet to come. Next to other vintages that display a good bit of ripeness, the 2017 remains medium in body and silky. Sweet red berry fruit, flowers, cedar and earthy notes lead into the vibrant, translucent finish. I hope I can capture just how captivating the 2017 is.HK$12,675.00 -

(12x75cl) 2009Vinous (93)
The 2009 Alpilles Rouge is a powerful, brooding wine. It is also the most reticent of the five wines in this report. I don’t see the aromatic nuance, textural richness or finesse of the best years. Instead, the 2009 comes across as brooding and a bit monolithic. Of course, it is possible the 2009 is in that transition from a young to an older wine. We shall see. Today, it is pretty bombastic, with plenty of dark fruit, leather, smoke, game and scorched earth notes that add to its virile character. This bottle was released from the domaine in 2020.HK$13,280.00 -
