The essence of violets, roses, black cherries, black raspberries, spice, smoke, espresso, chocolate, and licorice nuances provide the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich, supple, creamy, vibrant. There is lift, intensity, length, and sensuality, with silky tannins. The fruits are ripe, deep, and penetrating. The berries come in layers, that build in intensity, as they linger. The seamless finish remains with you for over 50 seconds! Edouard Moueix feels 2023 provides the essence of each parcels terroir. However, he was not always sure about the vintage. In fact, it took until harvest time before he slowly became confident of the quality here. Owned by the Castéja family, Trottevieille has one parcel of some of the oldest vines in St.-Emilion. Dense purple, the 2005 is better at age 10 then earlier. The wine has beautiful blueberry, plum and blackcurrant fruit, an attractive underlying minerality, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and a long, layered, complex finish. Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Trottevieille has a pleasing leathery, undergrowth-scented bouquet that feels fully mature, although there is commendable vigor here (more so than the 2007 Canon). The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and tensile tannin, a keen thread of acidity and moderate depth but impressive focus towards the finish. It is fully mature with those ferrous and bell pepper notes on the finish, but I can see this offering another decade's worth of drinking pleasure, no problem. One to look out for. The 2014 Trottevieille does not show as well as previous bottles although I did taste another during a trip to Bordeaux. I feel that this is more representative with blackberry and cedar on the nose, almost Left Bank in style thanks to the expressive Cabernet Franc. Intense and concentrated on the nose, so full of aromas, rich and complex. Succulent and sophisticated, this is just so delicious. Crunchy strawberry and red cherry fruit with bright and round edges change into deep and heady blackcurrant and plum with a cool and liquorice spiced aspect as the wine makes an impact and travels from start to finish. The texture is smooth and fine, with a sense of life and joy, while the flavours are layered and complex. This has a really captivating spice to it, not at all harsh but present and indicative of the alcohol, that gives the wine frame and body. Serious with a very long life ahead but I love the way it changes in the glass giving you small hints of glamour, power and personality.HK$2,375.00 -
