The 2010 Villemaurine is another Saint-Émilion with an extremely ripe and extrovert bouquet, yet still attractive with maraschino cherries, allspice, cloves and hung game. The palate is sweet on the entry, supple and well balanced. I like the acidity here that counterbalances the inherent richness of this wine, corpulent towards the finish. Drinking perfectly now. Inky ruby. Oak-spiced dark berries and cherry on the nose. Fleshy, rich dark red fruit flavors are lifted by a floral topnote and juicy acidity. Finishes with good back-end thrust, an echo of vanilla and slow-building, slightly gritty tannins. Still, this struck me as being well balanced and rounder than many other 2011 Saint-Emilions. Needs to be served with food.HK$3,840.00 -

One of the under the radar gems of the vintage, the 2012 Villemaurine is striking from the outset. A dark, sumptuous Saint-Emilion, the 2012 possesses gorgeous richness to match its sensual personality. Black cherry, smoke, plum and spices are some of the many notes that emerge from this beautifully layered, inviting wine. The 2012 is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The 2019 Villemaurine, which was the final vintage under Justin Onclin, has a well-defined, focused bouquet of red berry fruit, touches of sous-bois and that marine scent that I noticed from the barrel sample. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. There is a veneer of new oak that needs to be subsumed, but this has a lovely plushness and sensuality toward the finish. Needs time, but it will be worth the wait.HK$4,010.00 -

The 2021 Villemaurine is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Crushed rose petal, cinnamon, new leather, spice and tobacco are beautifully delineated. The 2021 is rich and heady, but also full of intrigue. This Villemaurine is not an obvious wine, as it can be, but it’s all there. Bright acids add salivating intensity on the long finish. A blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Château Villemaurine is killer stuff, offering black raspberries, black cherries, violets, floral notes, and chalky minerality. Full-bodied, pure, deep, and seamless, it’s layered and rich yet incredibly balanced, with fine tannins and an elegant mouthfeel. Huge minerality and a liquid rock-like character make this a stunning effort. Aged for 16 months in 70% new and 30% one-year-old barrels, it’s going to evolve gracefully for 30+ years. Bright yellow. Room-filling and utterly hypnotic aromas of ripe pear, quince paste, toffeed nuts, smoked meat, buttery brioche, potpourri and pungent flowers. Deep, round and rich, with powerful, densely concentrated orchard fruit flavors complicated by lichee, cherry pit, Asian spices, butter and toasted nuts. Firms up on the finish, with harmonious but substantial acids framing the deep fruit tones and the buttery note repeating on the back. This has the structure to repay many years in a cool cellar.HK$3,710.00 -

The 2006 Coeur de Cuvée is just starting to enter the early part of its plateau of maturity. Lemon confit, apricot, spice and lightly toasted notes give the wine much of its aromatic and flavor complexity. The 2006 was quite powerful at the outset, but over time it has become much more finessed and nuanced. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade or so. This is a terrific showing. Disgorged July 2013.HK$6,280.00
