  • Domaine Leroy Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2002 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

Dark red. Roasted aromas of black and red fruits, minerals and cocoa powder. Then almost magically vibrant and detailed for such a ripe wine, with superb inner-mouth energy and suave texture. Extremely fine-grained but solidly structured wine, finishing with noble tannins, palate-coating flavor and great clarity. Lalou Bize considers this classier than the 1999 version.

A finish endowed with substantial tannin and high acidity only reinforces that impression.

  • Domaine Ponsot Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (92)

As it was when first reviewed, this is exceptionally ripe with dense aromas of spice, cassis, plum and earth. There is excellent phenolic maturity to the equally ripe and very concentrated, even opulent flavors that hint at an underlying minerality on the long but slightly flat finish that does manage to be attractively persistent. This is a bit too ripe for my taste as it lacks a bit of energy yet if bold and super-rich Gevrey is your preference, you will perhaps like this more than I do. With that said, it is a perfectly good wine, just not a great one.

  • Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Assortment Case NV (6x75cl)
  • Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 2011 (3x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Laurent Ponsot’s Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes '11 is reticent at first and demands coaxing, although it repays the patient imbiber with lively floral scents that are entwined with strawberry pastilles and cranberry. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy and almost corpulent entry, at least for a 2011 Côte de Nuits. There is admirable depth here with fleshy strawberry and red cherry notes infused with fennel and sage. It lingers for a very long time, which is quite unusual for this vintage. While it needs another few years to completely coalesce, it will be worth the wait.
