The 2014 Petit-Figeac is laced with the essence of sweet dark cherry, plum, tobacco, mint, licorice and leather. Pliant, supple and expressive, it is a highly appealing second wine. This is just as impressive in bottle as it was from barrel.HK$7,020.00 -

The 2016 Petit Figeac is a blend of 41% Cabernet Franc, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 23% Merlot that spent 12-15 months in 30% new French oak. It has a real Figeac bouquet of blackcurrants, truffle, flowers, and forest floor. Silky and medium to full-bodied, this brilliant second wine should be snatched up by readers.HK$3,300.00 -

The second wine of Château Figeac, this reflects the top wine's chiseled structure and firm tannins, rich in black currant and damson fruits. The tannins and vanilla flavors give the wine sweetness, echoed by the generous fruits. Drink from 2025.HK$3,380.00 -

Blackberry notes on the nose, with some herbal perfume touches too that are so appealing. Smooth and softly textured, with chalky nuances and grippy black cherry, strawberry and blackcurrant leaf aspects giving structure and body. Succulent and juicy with mouthwatering freshness. Great vibrancy and drive with life. Super approachable with the same vein of refinement and charm that Figeac does so well.HK$5,925.00 -

The 2020 Petit-Figeac has a tightly wound, pencil box-tinged bouquet that suggests there is more than the 10% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. It's pretty Left Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a graphite entry that dovetails into a fleshier mid-palate. The 30% new oak is neatly integrated with a healthy dash of black pepper on the finish. Fine.HK$4,890.00 -

Good red-ruby. Aromatic nose of redcurrant, plum, oak spice and mint. Sweet and supple in the mouth, but with more texture than real depth of flavor. Gives the impression of less even ripening than the '98. The acids and tannins have not yet thoroughly harmonized.HK$7,475.00 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)
Bright, deep ruby. Floral, perfumed aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, cherry, violet pastille, mint and shoe polish; I find strong merlot and cabernet character here, which makes for a complex nose indeed. Lush, dense and rather high-pitched; a lovely combination of sheer fruit and finesse. Still youthfully backward, but already shows superb sucrosity and silkiness of texture. Almost no sign of the new oak today. Solidly structured Pomerol, finishing long and subtle, with a note of chocolatey torrefaction. The tannins hit the palate late and coat the back of the mouth. This offers terrific potential.HK$7,335.00 -

This is sexy, with beautiful ripe fruit and spices. Full bodied, with focused fruit and a long finish. Racy. So focused. Class. Best ever? Score range: 92-95 -JSHK$10,195.00 -

93-95 With its dark concentration of flavors, this is hugely dense, very ripe and juicy. There is a fruit salad of rich berries here, powerful, finished with some tough, dry tannins.HK$10,270.00 -

Aromas of dark fruits and flowers follow through to a full body, fine tannins and a fresh, clean finish. Very fine and pretty. One of the best PVs in years. Better in 2018.HK$4,625.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (87-90)
The 2013 Petit-Village fleshes out nicely in the glass. There is good depth and intensity to the fruit, even if some slightly angular contours remain. Crushed flowers, raspberries and sweet aromatic spices add nuance on the finish. It will be interesting to see how the 2013 develops over the coming year. Right now there is a battle between the juiciness of the fruit and the slightly drying tannins. The blend is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2013, production is down a whopping 50%. Tasted three times.HK$4,980.00 -

Quite an earthy, solid wine with plenty of power and concentration but a bit less charm than many of the 2014 Pomerols. The tannins on the finish are a bit chewy, but they should harmonize in time and there’s plenty of fruit in there. Better in 2020.HK$5,710.00 -

Another brilliant wine from this estate, the 2023 Château Petit-Village offers ripe black cherries, crushed stone, chocolate, and subtle leafy herbs as well as sappy floral nuances. Based on 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and aged 16-18 months in 45% new French oak (the balance in one-year-old barrels, 20% in 500-liter), it’s a dark, rich, concentrated Pomerol with a medium-bodied, beautifully textured mouthfeel, terrific tannins, and outstanding length. It has the class to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for two decades. Drink 2029-2045.HK$5,035.00
