Opaque ruby. Highly expressive aromas of candied red and blue fruit, along with suggestions of exotic flowers, olive paste and smoky minerals. Sweet, penetrating and seamless on the palate, offering intense black raspberry, blueberry and floral pastille flavors that become deeper and fleshier with air. Pure and sharply focused, finishing with outstanding clarity, sneaky, well-knit tannins and a lingering violet quality.HK$9,415.00 -

The 2017 Saint Joseph offers up effusive notes of mint, black olives and black cherries. As usual, the Gonons have managed to combine herbal, savory and fruity elements into a compelling, harmonious whole. The wine is medium to full-bodied and fully ripe, perhaps not quite as lush and fruit-driven as the 2018, but it's still a tremendous success, capped off by gentle tannins and salted licorice on the long finish.HK$19,230.00 -

Deep violet. Intensely perfumed, mineral-accented aromas of red and blue fruit preserves, licorice, exotic spices and potpourri, along with an exotic suggestion of incense. Stains the palate with concentrated black raspberry, cassis, bitter cherry and fruitcake flavors that are given spicy lift by a suggestion of white pepper. Moving to the flagship, the 2019 Saint Joseph got a big “wow” in my notes, and this is the finest wine I’ve tasted from these hard-working brothers. Awesome red and black fruits, ground pepper, and hints of game and meatiness all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, with perfect balance, silky tannins, and one heck of a finish. This brilliant Saint Joseph is one of the top wines in the appellation and can be enjoyed any time over the coming 15 years.HK$15,000.00 -

St. Joseph is often declared to be a second tier appellation in the Northern Rhone, but here’s proof that it can play in the first league of the region. This has an incredibly deep nose of ripe blackberries, other forest berries and smoke. On the barely full-bodied palate it is simultaneously rich, focused and extremely complex with very graceful fine tannins and stacks of stony minerality at the breathtakingly fresh finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.HK$4,200.00 -

The 2022 Saint-Joseph from Pierre Gonon is a beauty. Despite a slightly introverted bouquet, it is bursting with aromas of cherries, black olive, violet, dark berries and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered with a textural attack, it's pure with a fleshy core of fruit framed by supple tannins and a refreshing perfumed mid-palate that culminates in an ethereal, long and delicately floral finish. Despite a dry vintage, this refined, precise wine is full of freshness. It will require patience (10 to 15 years). Kudos!HK$16,770.00 -

Composed of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Grenache, and 7% Counoise, the 2018 Odyssée has a deep garnet color, bursting from the glass with a whole array of exotic spices notes—cumin seed, star anise, cardamom and cassia—over a core of stewed black plums, warm cassis and blackberry preserves, with hints of dark chocolate, lavender and tapenade. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with concentrated black and blue fruits, framed by firm, rounded tannins and beautiful freshness, finishing very long with a peppery kick. A little more structured than previous vintages and with such impressive concentration, this should easily cellar 25 years or more.HK$1,685.00 -

The 2019 Odyssee is an eclectic blend of Bordeaux and Rhone vineyards, made by Pierre Graffeuille (now at Montrose) and Matthieu Dumarcher, composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Medoc, and 25% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre from the Rhone. Medium garnet-purple in color, it springs from the glass with vivacious notes of black raspberries, mulberries, and juicy plums, followed by an undercurrent of crushed blackcurrants, Indian spices, and charcoal with a waft of garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with spicy black fruit flavors, supported by velvety tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a skip in its step.HK$1,590.00 -

Made by Pierre Graffeuille, the 2020 Odyssée is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Médoc and Grenache from the Southern Rhône. It’s darker and richer than the 2022, with lots of cassis, blackcurrants, and tobacco, plus a touch of minerality. Medium to full-bodied, it’s got a gorgeous, layered feel, plenty of depth, and terrific balance. This is a seriously elegant wine that should evolve nicely for over a decade.HK$1,625.00 -

Love the aromatics on this wine, with an emphasis on cold woodsmoke, soft tar and tomato leaf, alongside blueberry and blackberry fruits, with liqourice, pomegranate and a rinse of powerful garrigue, sage and white pepper spice. A brilliant vintage for Odysee, relatively cool so ensuring juice is front and centre. Rhone-Bordeaux blend (bottled as Vin de France) from Mathieu Dumarcher and Pierre Graffeuille, first vintage 2015, 3.2ha of vines across the Médoc, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas.HK$1,435.00 -

Also deeper in colour than I remember. There is an impressive depth here, a rich dark strawberry, even with a suggestion of a chocolate coating, a light youthful; bitterness, with the Serpentières grace and length showing through behind. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Oct 2024.HK$950.00 -

Always 100% Grenache, from a fabulous terroir located right in the heart of the appellation, right next to Rayas, the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Lieu Dit Pignan is jaw droppingly good in the vintage, and I was shocked by its level of depth and concentration. Its deep purple color is followed by awesome notes of juicy black cherries, black raspberries, violets and tons floral aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, seamless, elegant and layered, with more mid-palate depth and texture, and just about every other wine in the vintage, hats off to the team at Chapoutier for this incredible effort!HK$2,225.00 -

The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Lieu Dit Pignan is 100% Grenache from a lieu-dit that lies just next to Rayas, in the center of the appellation. It's a classic, structured 2015 that offers beautiful notes of blackberries, plums, licorice and roasted garrigue. Full-bodied, concentrated and structured, with enough tannin to warrant short-term cellaring, it's going to have 15-20 years of overall longevity. It’s unquestionably one of the top wines in the vintage.HK$845.00 -
