It's not easy to find a new estate on the rise these days in Pauillac, the heartland of Bordeaux. Given the presence of greats such as Lafite, Latour and Mouton in this commune, it certainly takes extra effort to stand out. So, it is truly exciting to have stumbled upon Château Pédesclaux, a Pauillac estate that is 'unquestionably on the upswing' in the eyes of Jeb Dunnuck.

This is one of Bordeaux’s next superstars and, more importantly, it stands out today with its incredible value. From a historic Bordeaux vintage, the remarkable Pédesclaux 2016 is only £195 per case IB. Scoring 95 points from James Suckling and triple 94 points from Decanter, Vinous's Neal Martin and Jeb Dunnuck, this medium-bodied 'stunningly juicy' (DC) Pédesclaux is not the same wine the estate was producing a decade ago.

The Lorenzetti family have invested a huge amount in the estate since they purchased the now-200-year-old property in 2009. Alongside a brand new state of the art gravity-fed winery and bringing on superstar consultant Eric Boissenot, who also consults for Mouton, Lafite and Latour, they have acquired many highly sought-after plots.

They have bought vineyards that are right next to Pichon Comtesse, Latour, Lafite, and in between Pontet-Canet and Clerc Milon. With the new proximity to all these prestigious names, we can justifiably get very excited about the quality of the wines now being produced at Pédesclaux.

Also with a new approach to viticulture, they have completely re-organised all the vineyard management and are now focusing on sustainable agriculture. They will soon be certified organic and many of their plots are farmed biodynamically.

This vast array of changes has evidently been paying off with respects to critical acclaim, with Neal Martin stating about the 2016 vintage that he adores 'the harmony and precision of this Pédesclaux, which is probably the best to date'. With a drinking window of one of it's much more expensive rivals, up to 2052, the 'utterly delicious' (DC) Pédesclaux 2016 is unquestionably the most successful vintage to date.

At only £32.50 per bottle IB, this is a top quality Pauillac without the price-tag of it's more famous neighbours and we encourage all fans of wines from the Left Bank in Bordeaux to secure a case of this historic vintage from this estate on the rise.
