Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-97)A low key lemon and lime colour. Clean fresh and classic on the nose. A very typical fresh stony palate, lightly washed in citrus, with enough flesh to provide the body necessary for ageing, and a fine, long, persistently mineral finish. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: November 2022

Vinous - Neal Martin (97)The 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru has an elegant bouquet that opens in the glass with crushed stone and light oily/resinous scents, nuanced yet focused with glimpses of tropical fruit though it never impedes. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh, precise and mineral-driven. There is an understated element in this "Monty" that is very appealing and it feels reassuringly persistent on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru is higher-toned, verging on glossy compared to its peers with some polished new oak that I feel is masking a slight shortfall in fruit concentration. The palate has a bold entry with mainly black fruit and saturated tannins (for the vintage). It is velvety smooth but just a bit "blocky" towards the finish where I am seeking more finesse and nerve. Not bad though and it deserves a couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Vinous - Neal Martin (95-97)The 2023 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberries and light loamy aromas coming through with aeration. It is maybe a little Musigny-like. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and gentle grip, slightly peppery in style with a persistent, quite saline finish. Without a doubt, this is a fabulous Bonnes-Mares with great potential. It may very well land at the top of my banded score.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)5 Star Wine. Beautiful colour here, a darker crimson, and the fruit is magical. Perfectly on the red and black cusp while the whole bunches add a floral note. The Clos du Fonteny is on terrific form today with a fine balance of acidity to finish, alongside balanced tannins. A fine long aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.

Burghound (91-94)(Sweet Spot)
(from a .25 ha parcel that is located on the southern side of the vineyard near En Ergot). Here there is sufficient reduction to blur the nuances of what are clearly floral-suffused red berry aromas. There is excellent freshness and verve to the intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors that terminate in a linear, chiseled, austere and very serious finale. This is beautiful but it’s also a ‘buy and forget you own it’ wine.

Vinous (94)The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is very harmonious on the nose. Yellow flowers, Japanese yuzu, quince and orange zest open with aeration whilst maintaining superb focus. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a welcome bitter lemon note that upholds tension and salinity on the finish. I like where this Perrières is going - one to watch. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89)Pale lemon yellow. Attractive juicy fruit on the nose. Quite a graceful approach, backed by more than adequate density of fruit, lemon scented ripe apples, good length. Classy Bourgogne Blanc from a particularly good site. Drink from 2024-2027. Tasted: October 2023.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)A vivid and vibrant fresh purple, reflecting the low pH (3.30). The nose is exuberant and vivacious at the same time. This is a late malolactic wine and has been reduced, but not today. Despite the thick texture and super charged raspberry, signs of higher alcohol (in fact 15%) I don’t feel any specific heat and the Charmes-Chambertin shows a pretty long finish. Tasted: November 2021

Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from vines located in Mazoyères, has a splendid bouquet with blackberry, white tipped strawberry and light earthy scents that gradually unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine, sorbet-fresh entry, cassis and blackberry that frame a finely tuned and quite powerful finish. Collardot mentioned that he was bestowed by the full complement of 6 barrels this year and this wine seems to be celebrating that fact!

James Suckling (96-97)Quite a shy nose, but on the palate this is so dense without the slightest hint of heaviness. All red fruits with an almost lemony freshness at the long, intensely mineral finish. Great potential!

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90)Just bottled. A robust and refreshing purple colour. A little burnt rubber reduction straight after bottling. Plenty of fruit here on the palate, raspberry seedless, plenty of energy, and a very good fruit acid balance. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Nov 2024.

Vinous - Neal Martin (85)The 2023 Bourgogne Blanc, bottled at the end of August, just feels a tad muted on the nose at the moment. The palate is well balanced, expressive and quite rounded with tropical tones. It just needs a little more acidity and poise on the finish. Early drinking.

Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru comes from lower down the slope. It has a taut and fresh bouquet—a little austere at first—but gradually reveals its energy. The palate is well balanced with a brisk, edgy opening and citrus-fresh orange zest notes toward the penetrating finish. This has great potential. I can imagine it marrying perfectly with fruits de mer.

Vinous - Neal Martin (92)The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru has a "buttoned-down" nose that demands coaxing to reveal its yellow fruit, hazelnut and light orange rind scents. The palate is well balanced and opens up wonderfully with aeration, displaying a touch of orange rind, spice and smokiness on the finish. It's quite mercurial and, to my senses, fascinating.

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is the usual blend of six terroirs although in 2025, Céline Fontaine told me that the large production might result in one of those being bottled as a separate cuvée. There is a pleasant reduction at play here. It's quite tensile with yellow fruit and light crushed stone scents. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, very pure with a slightly richer, honeyed finish that is irresistible. I see this having wide commercial appeal.

Vinous - Neal Martin (86-88)The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge has a well-defined, Pommard-like earthy bouquet that unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and blue fruit tones. It's quite dense toward the finish and just needs a little more amplitude.

Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)The 2023 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru takes time to unfurl touches of walnut and smoke infusing its citrus fruit notes in the glass. The palate is well balanced, very smooth and slightly creamy in texture with discrete hints of praline and white chocolate. This lingers long in the mouth. It's a beautifully crafted Criots, though I prefer the 2022 at this stage.

Vinous - Neal Martin (94)The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru comes from two parcels, one planted north-south and the other east-west. Its attractive bouquet offers brambly red berry fruit, forest floor and light black truffle scents. There is good complexity here; it is very composed. The palate is well-balanced, with good depth and gentle grip. There is mainly black fruit here with plenty of freshness and mineralité. The finish has commendable precision and feels long and tender. Excellent.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)5 Star Wine. A huge amount was rejected on the sorting table, 14 barrels worth deselected against 30 barrels made. Typical Guyon fanaticism. An even purple colour, redcurrant and dark raspberry, the whole bunches are better integrated here than in the Bourgogne, with an incredible red fruit sensuality. 15% new wood. Superb balance. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted Nov 2024.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-97)Last year of his holding, which was a fermage that now belongs to the Domaine des Lambrays. Jean-Pierre has managed to replace this with two excellent sources of grapes from 2024. The 2023 has a heady purple colour. The Clos Vougeot starts in spice and some dark fruit, taking a lot longer than the Vosne 1er cru cuvées to start to show. There is a really solid deep rich concentrated fruit nonetheless with some dark cherries, and more spice to finish. A little more subdued than some, but all is there. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
