El Enemigo Single Varietal Range

Cru clients will undoubtedly be familiar with El Enemigo's exceptional Chardonnay, renowned for its outstanding value. However, have you had the opportunity to discover their captivating single varietal range, which beautifully showcases the essence of different grape varieties sourced from the Ande region?

El Enemigo Single Varietal Range

Originally conceived as a side project by Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, the Head Winemaker of Catena Zapata, El Enemigo has flourished over the past decade and has become one of Argentina's most esteemed wine labels, following the success of their remarkable Gran Enemigo range.

While the Gran Enemigo range, featuring single vineyard, old vine Cabernet Franc, undoubtedly takes pride of place in El Enemigo's offerings, the single varietal range provides exceptional value. In light of the recent accolades received from Vinous, we are delighted to present the newest vintage of El Enemigo's single varietal range. These wines, sourced from the Mendoza region, are meticulously crafted to the highest standards, resulting in incredibly accessible entry-level wines of exceptional quality.

El Enemigo Semillon: This white varietal, renowned for its contribution to Bordeaux's botrytis sweet wines, is transformed into a dry white by El Enemigo. Fermented and aged for 15 months in French barrels with a delicate veil of flor, this special white wine offers enticing notes of honey, chamomile, cashew, and hazelnut. It also showcases a unique freshness provided by the flor.

El Enemigo Malbec: Synonymous with Argentina's winemaking, Malbec is a red grape that has become emblematic of the country's modern era. El Enemigo's Malbec is sourced from Gualtallary and aged for 15 months in foudres. True to its varietal character, this wine presents rich flavors of plums, violets, sage, and bitter orange. It also offers a voluminous and weightless mouthfeel, contributing to its approachability at an early stage.

El Enemigo Cabernet Franc 2020: Originating from France, Cabernet Franc is one of the noble varietals that has found a second home in South America. This Cabernet Franc boasts a dark and intense purple color, with a nose that exudes typical varietal notes of “ashes, herbs, and a subtle hint of jalapeño”. Sourced from the world-famous Gualtallary, where the highly acclaimed Gran Enemigo Gualtallary, awarded multiple perfect scores, was crafted, this wine can be considered an entry-level option for early consumption.

Priced at S$139 per case IB apiece, these varietal expressions from El Enemigo have garnered great critical acclaim from Wine Advocate and Vinous. These incredible wines can be enjoyed throughout the year and are particularly well-suited for casual occasions, making them an excellent choice as house wines.

Vinous (93)

The 2020 Cabernet Franc incorporates a 10% touch of Malbec and originates from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. It underwent a 15-month aging process in used foudres. It's a dark and intense purple color. The nose reveals notes of ashes and herbs, interwoven with a subtle hint of jalapeño, set against a backdrop of black fruit and cedar. Dry and delicately lean, the palate is tightly structured and juicy, thanks to its fine-grained tannins. The vibrant palate concludes with a lingering thyme finish.
