Vinous (93-95)
(the crop level here was barely 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Saouma): Full, bright ruby. Higher-toned and considerably more expressive on the nose than the Echézeaux, offering aromas of black raspberry, licorice and violet along with suggestions of more exotic ripeness. Densely packed and seriously concentrated, but a bit youthfully imploded owing to its crushed-rock minerality; conveys a strong impression of dry extract but little early sweetness. As young as this wine is, it's much more harmonious today than the Echézeaux. Finishes very long, with serious but fine-grained tannins.HK$21,100.00 -
Burghound (91-93)
An overtly floral and well-layered nose is elegant, airy and pure with plenty of spice elements adding breadth to the super-fresh essence of red currant aromas that are trimmed in discreet oak nuances. There is notably more size, weight and power to the tautly muscular flavors that culminate in a serious, robust and lingering finish. This is not a monster of concentration but I like the balance and overall sense of harmony.HK$17,150.00 -
Burghound (93-95)
(Don't Miss!) There is enough reduction to mask the fruit but not the sauvage elements Mazis is famous for. There is a bit more size, weight and power to the big-bodied flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract, all wrapped in a dusty, mouth coating and tightly wound finish that is austere but not rustic. Once again ample patience will be required as this is very clearly built-to-age.HK$26,375.00 -
Burghound (91-94)
Prominent spice nuances add breadth to the distinctly earthy and sauvage-inflected deeply pitched nose of red and dark currant, poached plum and leather. The succulent but muscular medium-bodied plus flavors possess plenty of minerality and even better depth and persistence on the attractively balanced if very firm finish.HK$15,010.00 -
Burghound (92-94)
Notably ripe yet nicely fresh and even cool aromas of poached plum and dark berry fruit coulis are trimmed in hints of earth and the sauvage. The palate impression of the big-bodied and powerful flavors is one of contrasts as the mid-palate is actually nicely refined if dense whereas the wonderfully persistent finish is robust, muscular and borderline rustic, as well as exceptionally firm. Once again, I would recommend not touching a bottle for at least a decade and this beauty should repay almost two.HK$7,240.00 -

(6x75cl) 2020Burghound (90-93)
Pungent aromas of wood and reduction lead to almost painfully intense middle weight flavors that also possess an appealing texture that is at once rich and nicely detailed, all wrapped in lingering finish that is appealingly complex. This is very pretty and while it will likely need 12-ish years to arrive at its apogee, it should be approachable after only 5 to 7.HK$11,750.00 -
Burghound (90-92)
Here too the reduction is dense enough to hide the fruit. Otherwise, there is a caressing but punchy mouthfeel to the detailed and refined middle weight flavors that exude plenty of minerality on the mildly austere, firm and sneaky long finale. This is very Petits Vougeot in character with its elegant and understated style.HK$10,350.00 -
(6x75cl) 2013Wine Enthusiast (97)
A classic Barolo, this opens with textbook Nebbiolo aromas of pressed rose, leather, red berries, pipe tobacco and balsamic notes of eucalyptus. Boasting power and finesse, the firmly structured palate delivers red cherry, pomegranate, licorice and exotic spices framed in tightly knit, noble tannins that need time to unwind. It's balanced, with fresh acidity.HK$5,205.00 -
Wine Enthusiast (98)
For all who criticized the 2014 vintage across the board, this is a great counterpoint. Opening with enticing scents of new leather, rose, camphor and perfumed berry, it's a textbook Serralunga Barolo. The chiseled palate is radiant, delivering juicy Marasca cherry, spiced cranberry and licorice while firm, fine-grained tannins provide taut support. Bright acidity keeps it racy, focused and balanced. It beautifully proves that even in challenging vintages, great producers can make great wines.HK$8,330.00 -

With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, the Figli Luigi Oddero 2015 Barolo Vignarionda is saturated and rich, showing dark fruit, black cherry, plum, campfire ash, iron and rusty nail. Vignarionda awards flavors and tastes with a strong sense of place, and territory-driven characteristics are especially evident in this vintage. To the palate, the wine is smooth and rich with integrated tannins. Production is only 3,800 bottles (to be releases in October 2021).HK$7,200.00 -

Lukas van Loggerenberg is a Loire Valley nut, happy to pay to drink the best that the region has to offer and learn from his favourite producers. This is a world-class expression of the variety, combining raw material from Faure and the Polkadraai Hills. Fermented with 25% whole bunches before ageing in concrete and old wood, it has wet grass and pencil shaving aromas, granite-derived freshness and a core of plum and black cherry fruit.HK$1,890.00 -
Vinous (94)
The 2022 Kameraderie is 100% Chenin Blanc from Swartland, matured in 65% concrete and 35% used oak barrels. Van Loggerenberg mentioned that it is aimed at Chenin purists. Around 70% comes from Lammershoek and was planted in 1960. It has wonderful delineation and mineralité on the nose, vibrant and brimming with energy. The palate is well-balanced with citrus peel, orange rind and just a touch of pistachio, really saline and more-ish on the finish. One of Van Loggerenberg's best cuvées this year.HK$2,135.00 -
Tim Atkin MW (95)
Named after the 1.4-hectare block of the same name in Franschhoek, this remarkable Cinsault shows the effortless concentration of a vineyard planted in 1932. Inspired by the style of his favourite Barbarescos (different grape, same elegance and refinement), it has aromas of rose petal and forest floor, granular tannins and sweet plum, raspberry and pomegranate fruit.HK$2,135.00 -

Both wines from 2018 showed very fresh and young, younger than you'd have anticipated. The 2018 El Terroir follows the path of previous vintages and is a Garnacha selection of their organic and biodynamically farmed plots (but not certified), fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in barrel for 18 months. It's clean and aromatic and has herbal freshness, a certain leafiness that even makes me think of Mencía. The oak is neatly integrated and folded into the wine, which comes through as balanced and elegant, with a Mediterranean twist that is characteristic from San Martín. It has a medium to full-bodied palate with very fine, chalky tannins. 24,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2022.HK$1,205.00 -

No 2017 was produced, so after the 2016 I tasted a while ago, we jump to the 2018 La Dama, vinified by Enrique Basarte and Elisa Úcar and blended and bottled by Raúl Pérez, the new owner of the project. They always look for a more delicate expression of Garnacha from selected stonier plots of old head-pruned and dry-farmed vines in the village of San Martín de Unx that are worked organically and biodynamically but are not certified. The wine is stunning, elegant and aromatic, with depth, complexity and grip. It's incredibly young and expressive and doesn't show its age at all; it has a refined nose and is quite fruit-driven and floral, with very integrated oak (like never before), supple flavors and very fine tannins. It has good ripeness and contained alcohol (13.8%) and good freshness and acidity (with a pH of 3.46 and 6.3 grams of tartaric). 10,000 bottles were filled in October 2022.HK$1,960.00 -
Wine Spectator (96)
Textbook, with mouthfilling and slightly gutsy black currant, fig and blackberry fruit flavors bound together by singed cedar, iron and tobacco notes. Features a tug of loam followed by a second wave of fruit through the finish. This is just starting to stretch out.—Blind '01/'03/'05 Bordeaux retrospective (December 2017). Best from 2020 through 2040.HK$14,775.00 -
James Suckling (99)
A beautifully layered red with blackcurrant, hazelnut and lead-pencil character and fine, velvety tannins. Full-bodied and reserved. It’s like a tightly knit ball of polished tannins that are cashmere in texture. So very long and impressive. Give this time. A terrific Lynch. Better after 2027.HK$4,700.00 -
(12x75cl) 2020Vinous - Neal Martin (95)
The 2020 Malartic-Lagravière, which represents just 40% of the total production, was cropped at 26hL/ha. It has a very delineated nose with intense blackberry, raspberry, sous-bois and incense aromas that just "sing" of Pessac-Léognan. The palate is medium-bodied, finely-knit tannins, fresh and vibrant with beguiling purity. Harmonious and silky smooth, it belies the depth and complexity of this marvelous Malartic. This is superb and it will mature beautifully in bottle.HK$3,535.00 -

Pale smudgy garnet colour (and beautifully simple label). This wine is so pure and gorgeous! But gosh how the price has risen since I bought a case only a few vintages ago. It's a great advertisement for minimal intervention and purity. Direct fruit and not a trace of oak. Long and reverberant. Already drinkable but there is no hurry whatsoever.HK$1,825.00 -

Three barrels, all new, from three different coopers, The Clos St-Denis will stay in barrel until the spring. 20% whole bunches. An impressive, saturated, purple colour. This has all the gorgeous heady qualities of the appellation. Exceptionally sensual yet with depth and structure. Now another immense burst of fruit on the back of the palate. Bilberries, blueberries and luscious raspberries. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.HK$9,750.00 -
(6x75cl) 2023Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru includes 20% whole bunch this year. It has a beautifully defined bouquet with vivacious red berry fruit, superb delineation and a greater sense of mineralité than some of Tawse's other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious and silky smooth with pure red fruit notes and a poised, persistent finish. The 2022 was great, so is this.HK$5,480.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)
A fully crimson ruby. Full sturdy red fruit on nose and palate, fills the mouth very well, with some tannins behind. A sturdy lower slope Gevrey which will age well. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.HK$3,275.00 -

From En la Poulotte (Couchey) and the better-known Les Longeroies, half and half. Mid ruby colour. The nose offers a very elegant floral pinot, there being a proportion of whole bunches. Lifted with light cherry fruit and a touch of orange zest. Given the lightness of tread of this Marsannay, there is delicious persistence. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Nov 2024.HK$1,700.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)
Though the grapes are purchased, the Marchand-Tawse team are responsible for the viticulture here, so it is effectively but not officially a domaine wine. Picked late in the piece, on 24th September, and vinified with 60% whole bunches, the Petite Charmotte is still in barrel with 30% new. A pretty pink ruby colour, extremely cheerful bouquet, whole bunch on the later picked fruit seems to have worked well. White pepper at the finish. Nothing forced, very harmonious, a little darker fruit but classy. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.HK$4,170.00 -

An another level, the 2005 Château Margaux is as good as it gets, offering an incredible, full-bodied, layered style as well as the classic nuance, complexity, and elegance this Château is known for. Based on 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot raised in new barrels, its still youthful ruby/purple hue is followed by a kaleidoscope-like array of cassis, smoked currants, cedar pencil, spring flowers, and graphite. With incredible concentration, a multi-dimensional, layered mouthfeel, loads of ripe yet perfectly integrated tannins, and a finish that makes you salivate, this insanely good Margaux is just now at the early stages of its prime drinking window and has another 30 years of prime drinking ahead of it. Legendry juice.HK$29,840.00 -
The Wine Cellar Insider (100)
The perfume teases you with its depth and intensity of what’s to come with its aromas of violets, smoky oak, licorice, earth, vanilla and mélange of dark berries. From the first sip, the wine coats your palate and taste buds with pure, fresh, rich, thick, polished blackberries, silky tannins and a finish that builds and expands for close to 60 seconds! The wine continued to build and expand in the glass for the two hours we spent with the wine over lunch.HK$30,500.00
