Henri Boillot
The Boillot family established themselves in the region in 1885, and Henri represents the fifth winemaking generation, with his son now overseeing the production of the reds.
The winery is located on the “other” side of the RN74 in an estate that includes the Damy cooperage. This impressive facility affords Henri far more space then if he were couched in some mediaeval maison in one of the villages, which is mandatory when you have such an all-embracing portfolio of wines.
Henri Boillot produces domaine and negociant wines from Burgandy’s most renowned growing areas. Henri is a 5th generation vigneron in the Cote d’Or. Wines of Maison Henri Boillot are produced in a cellar in Meursault and are vibrant and full of character.

The succulent and seductively textured medium weight plus flavors coat the palate with plenty of sap while delivering excellent length on the strikingly long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. The 2021 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is a pretty and beguiling wine. All of the nuance and character of Bèze is present, but with less volume than in most vintages. Sweet floral and spice notes are front and center. This mid-weight elegant Bèze offers tons of harmony and nuance. I very much like the energy here. A rich ruby purple. The bouquet has a flamboyant weight of fruit backed up by a certain amount of oak as well. Henri finds lime blossom, which adds a further lick of freshness to the vibrant cherries. The fruit continues on the palate long after the fine tannins. Promising. Drink from 2032-2040. (Don't Miss!) A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. Supple but juicy, with lively flavors of pepper and spices. Finishes long, peppery and aromatic, with dusty tannins and an almost gum-numbing austerity. Saturated, bright red-ruby. Expressive, ripe aromas of black cherry, pepper, and a whiff of leather. Full, sweet and harmonious, with great lift and definition to its sappy black cherry and licorice flavors. Really compellingly sweet and palate-coating for a 2008. The fine-grained tannins contribute to the impression of precision on the explosive, vibrant back end. The 2012 Clos Vougeot is classic Boillot. This is one of the more explosive, dark Clos Vougeots readers will come across. When the Boillots’ previous source started to bottle his own wines in 2015, it was necessary to switch to another source which seems to be equally good. Rich deep purple black. This is certainly ripe, perhaps even a gamey quality. Freshens up in the glass. Huge fruit weight here, dark notes but actually a core of pure red fruit beneath. The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers ripe raspberry and blackcurrant scents on the nose. It has fine presence and detail, with the oak neatly enmeshed and delineated. With time, it develops minty aromas that are excess to requirements. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and ripe red berry fruit, with just the faintest green edge, which dovetails into a peppery but nicely controlled finish.
