Emitting a sublime allure, the Latour a Pomerol 1981 is a magnificently matured Merlot offering from the Bordeaux region of France. Cultivated by the venerable Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix vineyard, this venerated vintage exhibits an opulent blend of black fruit and truffle, underpinned by tertiary notes of cigar box and forest floor. Ageing in French oak barrels, extended maceration, and meticulous selection have lent this wine an inimitable structure and a peerless depth of flavour. The vineyards' clay and gravel soils endow the Latour a Pomerol 1981 with an exceptional minerality and refined tannins. Elegantly faded, this expressive, earthy pour breathes expansive charm, epitomising the splendour of its era and the sophistication of Pomerol's unique terroir. This is the epitome of a fine collector's wine that masterfully evokes the charm of its vintage. Undeniably, a bottle of Latour a Pomerol 1981 is testament to the immortal allure of Pomerol's vineyards. |

Wine Spectator (97)This wine is made by Christian Moueix, who also makes Pétrus and Trotanoy. A fleshy, classically proportioned wine--like a Reubens painting in structure--with ripe berry, truffle and chocolate characteristics, mouth-coating tannins and a long finish of sweet fruit. Can age for decades.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now through 1998. |

Wine Advocate (89)This is a sexy, soft, round wine with notes of sweet red and black fruits intermixed with hints of truffle, tobacco leaf, and spice. Medium to full-bodied with sweet fruit and a savory mouthfeel in an up-front, forward style, this wine needs 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink up to 15 years or more. |

Wine Spectator (95-98)This marries power and finesse, with a large core of smoldering fig and blackberry fruit, offset by black tea and aromatic spice notes. Fleshy but still stylish. A gorgeous wine. Tasted non-blind. Score range: 95-98 |

Wine Spectator (91)Shows good density, with raspberry, bitter plum coulis and red currant paste notes that lend a slightly compact feel for now. The lively spice and rooibos tea hints that line the finish should emerge more with cellaring. Best from 2015 through 2025. 1,960 cases made. -JM |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90-93)The 2013 Latour a Pomerol is one of the fleshier wines of the vintage. Smoke, tobacco, incense and dark red/black stone fruits all meld together in a wine of distinction and personality. I won't at all be surprised if the Latour a Pomerol ends up being one of the highlights of the vintage. Today it is naturally quite young, but it is impressive just the same. There is plenty to look forward to here. |

Decanter (95)Wonderfully evocative nose, rich and vibrant, floral and perfumed alongside red fruits with a tiny touch of wood spice. Rich but dark and cooling, a brooding and bewitching style with liquorice-laced fruit and firm tannins. Serious, mouth filling, concentrated and rich but well delivered. There is a clarity to the fruit but this is all muscle and sinew at the moment. Lovely but tight and tense, so focussed with a hint of crushed stone and mint on the finish. A characterful style. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 2020 Latour à Pomerol has retained a very similar bouquet to the one that I encountered from barrel with blackberry, loam and pencil box scents, perhaps one of the most Médocian noses that I have observed in this Pomerol even though paradoxically it is 100% Merlot! The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Fine build though it remains compact and linear, finally fanning out in its final third. There is a touch of chewiness just on the finish, but I feel this is developing the substance and structure for long-term ageing. |
