The best Le Prieure I have ever tasted, this 2009 is a hedonist’s dream. Huge red and black fruit aromas soar from the glass of this deep ruby/purple-tinged beauty. With velvety tannin, a full-bodied, opulent personality, and a knock-out finish with no hard edges, it is already impossible to resist, so enjoy it over the next decade or more. One of the unquestioned Sleeper jewels of the year, the 2016 Le Prieuré is off the charts beautiful. Silky and impossibly refined, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total precision. Today, the 2016 is a bit more restrained than it was from barrel, when it was a more overt wine. That is not a bad thing, though, as I suspect the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its finest. Dark, beautifully perfumed and gracious, Le Prieuré represents the height of finesse in Saint-Émilion. Jean-Claude Berrouet consults for the Artemis Group, which is now the sole owner of Le Prieuré. Fleshy blackberry and raspberry, alongside white pepper spice and saffron spice. A yield of 49hl/ha. The estate was sold from Artemis Domaines to the owners of Calon Ségur in early 2020, so the ageing was overseen by new owners Suravenir, with winemaker Penelope Godefroy remaining in place.HK$4,340.00 -

The 2021 Le Prieuré has as well-defined bouquet with lifted, quite floral red berry fruit mixed with subtle loamy scents. The palate is well-defined with finely chiselled tannins, taut and fresh with a sensual finish. Not a powerful Saint-Émilion, yet this continues this estates strong run of form.HK$3,930.00 -

The 2022 Le Prieuré, the first vintage overseen by the Calon-Ségur team, offers a more outgoing and opulent bouquet than its stablemate Vray Croix de Gay, with scents of blackberry, potpourri and light tobacco that barrel maturation has tempered. The palate features fine-boned tannins and a fresh, linear style, eschewing the warmth of the vintage and feeling sapid toward the finish. This classy Saint-Émilion will age well in bottle.
