About Sottimano
With his base firmly anchored in the Cottá cru, Rino eventually expanded his holdings to include additional vineyards in Currà, Fausoni, Pajorè and Basarin - which now total about 18 hectares. In addition, the estate also farms Dolcetto, Barbera and Brachetto grapes. Since inception, Rino has eschewed any use of chemicals and herbicides, opting for a minimal intervention approach. Wines are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and bottled without filtering or fining. Today, Rino is joined by his children, Andrea, Elena and Claudia in running the estate.
With the Cottá cru being the birthplace of the estate, little wonder the Barbaresco Cottá takes the spot as the most famous wine of the estate. The commune of Neive lies east of the town of Barbaresco, and Cottá is considered one of the top crus of Neive amongst others like Albesani, Basarin, Currá, Gallina, Santo Stefano and Serraboella.

Red berry, violet, forest floor, vanilla and balsamic aromas of menthol and camphor slowly appear on this stunning, radiant red along with whiffs of charcuterie. The vibrant, focused palate is young and taut but already impeccably balanced, evoking juicy red cherry, pomegranate, star anise and cool mint framed in firm acidity and tightly knit but fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Firm tannins provide the backbone for the 2010 Barbaresco Currà. A wonderfully layered, rich wine, the 2010 impresses for its resonance, beauty and class. Nothing in particular stands out, the 2010 is a wine of total harmony and symmetry. The Currà is quite floral, high-toned and spiced, not unlike the Fausoni, but with a little more mid-palate pliancy. At the same time, the tannins remain a bit firm, so a measure of patience is required.HK$3,615.00 -

The 2020 Barbaresco Fausoni takes all the elegance of the 2019 and turns up the dial one more notch. Deep and explosive, the 2020 captures all the best this vintage had to offer. A rush of dark red fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol, salt, lavender and rose petal builds as the 2020 saturates every corner of the palate. The 2020 Barbaresco Pajorè is a textbook wine from this site. A wine of depth and stature, the Pajorè is so impressive, even just bottled. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and menthol race across the palate as the 2020 shows off its obvious pedigree. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of spice, balsamic-infused nuances that build into the palate-staining finish. The 2020 is shaping up to be truly magnificent.HK$3,535.00
