Any list of the world's greatest Sauvignon Blancs would be incomplete without this wine. Wood smoke and blackcurrant leaf aromas are a prelude to a palate of remarkable complexity and salinity, with savoury oak, fresh herb and pink grapefruit flavours and a finish that lingers on the palate for a minuteHK$2,100.00 -

A wine that takes its inspiration from Pouilly-Fumé, according to Rudiger Gretschel, this varietal Sauvignon Blanc is remarkably chiselled and pithy, with gooseberry and elderflower flavours, subtle wood, granitic minerality and leesy texture and complexity.HK$1,480.00 -

I have written up Reyneke wines many times over the years, but this is the first occasion I am featuring three outstanding wines from this pioneering, biodynamic/organic specialist estate. To date, these are the finest wines made by Johann Reyneke, cellarmaster Rudiger Gretschel and winemaker Barbara Melck. Rudi and Barbara were in town recently to showcase their phenomenal creations. My featured white is a super-elite Sauvignon Blanc with more elemental power and thrilling restraint than an ocean of inferior wines from this ubiquitous grape. It is granted a gentle caress of oak from 10 months on its lees in 300L French hogsheads, and I cannot remember a Sauvignon as moving or as rewarding since 2017 Barre à Mine Michel Redde appeared on this page back in 2019 and Reyneke’s wine is £20 cheaper! If you adore cosmic, dry white wines, you must find this wine – I awarded it a very rare 19.5/20 score.HK$1,800.00 -

The 2019 Syrah Biodynamic is drop-dead gorgeous on the nose, offering blackberry, blueberry, crushed violet and light star anise aromas that blossom with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins and great depth and intensity, equaled by a finesse that leaves you wanting more on the finish. A sublime Syrah from Johan Reyneke.HK$900.00 -
Rickety Bridge Road to Santiago 2014 is a distinguished expression from Rickety Bridge, meticulously crafted in the renowned Rioja region of Spain. This vintage showcases a harmonious blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes, sourced from organic vineyards that benefit from the area’s unique microclimate. The hand-harvested grapes undergo traditional fermentation in French oak barrels, allowing for subtle integration of oak flavours without overshadowing the fruit’s natural elegance. Aged for eighteen months, this wine exhibits a deep ruby hue, accompanied by complex aromas of ripe dark berries, spices, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, it delivers a velvety texture with balanced tannins and a lingering finish, revealing notes of plum, cedar, and subtle earthiness. Rickety Bridge Road to Santiago 2014 exemplifies the producer’s commitment to quality and terroir, making it a superb choice for connoisseurs seeking a refined and memorable wine experience.

The Ridgeview Cavendish is a blend of mainly Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, plus Chardonnay, handpicked and whole-bunch-pressed with 100% malolactic. This sample was disgorged in December 2019. With a fine, vibrant mousse, it has a well-defined yet subtle bouquet with enticing scents of lemon thyme, biscuit and hints of acacia that are very Champagne-like. The palate does not disappoint; it is extremely well balanced, delivering razor-sharp acidity and a tension-filled, persistent finish. A touch of red berry pops up on the aftertaste. This is a sparkling wine that is all about nuance rather than overt flavors. Superb.HK$2,100.00 -

The 2015 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trocken GG is delicate and filigreed on the nose, provided with herbal notes and lovely stony aromas. Filigreed on the palate as well, this is an elegant, savory and intense Gräfenberg that is herbal on the long, intense and saline finish. It has great tension, salinity and finesse. This is impressive. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Kiedrich, August 2025.HK$910.00 -

Deep, dense and subtle, this is an imposing wine, yet remains so vital and animating. Shimmering with a thousand facets, but also with a forthright, nectarine note that makes it instantly appealing. Brilliant finish that reminds us what it's like to be up in high mountains – the light, the air. Drink or hold.HK$2,545.00 -

A whiff of smoky mystery sucks you into this concentrated and very elegant dry wine that has strident minerality through the very long, driving finish. Great aging potential. Drink or hold.HK$1,585.00 -

A very special style of Auslese, because there’s zero-percent botrytis here. Pristine and crystalline, with driving acidity that might be too much for some, but we find it very exciting. Essence of white peach with enormous passion-fruit and lemon-zest freshness that whips the sweetness into the background. Decades of aging potential. Drink or hold.HK$4,675.00 -

Vinified in stück and doppelstück (1,200- and 2,400-liter barrels, respectively) and aged on the full lees until the end of July, the 2020 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken shows a fascinating, deep, intense and generous as well as complex and aristocratic bouquet of ripe yellow fruits and crushed dark stones. The Turmberg is darker-toned and deeper than the Klosterberg, maybe also even more complex and provided with substantial but elegant fruit. Full-bodied, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a lush, intense and expressive, seriously structured, very long, complex and tensioned Turmberg with a spectacularly long, multilayered and persistently salty finish. Seriously, the Turmberg has never been better than in 2020. For the first time since its re-activation in 2005, the Turmberg premier cru is on grand cru level. Its aftertaste is incredibly dense and compact but also salivating and provided with the energy and expression of a great wine. A Must Buy of the vintage and a Best Buy as well! Magnums preferred. Tasted at the domain in August 2021.HK$1,470.00 -

Golden yellow. Musky aromas of peach, butterscotch and cinnamon rise above the honeyed botrytis. Full-bodied caramelized fruits overwhelm the palate, only just balanced by the wine's oyster shell salinity. Succulent sweet nectarine pervades the finish. This wine still needs time.HK$9,255.00 -
