The 2020 Le Prieuré is so elegant and nuanced. As always, readers will find a Saint-Émilion built on linear intensity and vibrancy more than size. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, mocha and crushed rocks are all beautifully delineated. The clean, intensely mineral finish is absolutely striking. This is such a gorgeous wine.HK$2,935.00 -

(6x75cl) 2021Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)
The 2021 Le Prieuré has as well-defined bouquet with lifted, quite floral red berry fruit mixed with subtle loamy scents. The palate is well-defined with finely chiselled tannins, taut and fresh with a sensual finish. Not a powerful Saint-Émilion, yet this continues this estates strong run of form.HK$3,930.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (94)
The 2022 Le Prieuré, the first vintage overseen by the Calon-Ségur team, offers a more outgoing and opulent bouquet than its stablemate Vray Croix de Gay, with scents of blackberry, potpourri and light tobacco that barrel maturation has tempered. The palate features fine-boned tannins and a fresh, linear style, eschewing the warmth of the vintage and feeling sapid toward the finish. This classy Saint-Émilion will age well in bottle. This is recommended.HK$760.00 -
(12x75cl) 2015James Suckling (93)
A linear and tight 2015 with chocolate, hazelnut and currant aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and intensity. Pure merlot. Same producer as Smith-Haut-Lafitte. Better in 2020.HK$1,790.62 -
Decanter (93)
A rather opulent nose, with fresh and dried black cherry, raspberry, dark chocolate, liquorice and cigar box notes. Very fine in the mouth with silky tannins and excellent concentration of fruit.HK$2,450.00 -
Decanter (93)
2018 is the first year with Cabernet Franc in the mix at Le Thil, and it gives an extra lift to the nose and an extra kick of tension on the finish. On the palate you get the silky, rich roundness of the Merlot, then a muscling in of the tannins towards the finish. There were no stems this time because they felt that there were already plenty of tannins in the skins (since 2014 they have been using a small percentage of whole-bunch fermentation, so this is an interesting departure). 21hl/ha yield.HK$2,545.00 -
Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (94)
Atypical Pessac Léognan with a high degree of Merlot. Even on the nose you see a huge difference with its sibling estate Cantelys. This is riper, black fruits, rounder, touch of liquorice, the form in the mouth is very different, enlarges outwards, less dense. A good sign that the two wines are very different but both excellent.HK$2,325.00 -

The 2020 Le Thil is a gorgeous, enticing Merlot-based Pessac-Léognan from team at Smith Haut-Lafitte. Wild cherry, tobacco, cedar, mint and white pepper lend notable freshness to this very attractive, mid-weight 2020. Bright acids and lifted floral accents perk up the finish. There is a bit of nervousness in the tannin, but there always is here.HK$2,585.00 -

(12x75cl) 2006Chateau Le Vieux Chene 2006 embodies the quintessential elegance of Bordeaux's renowned terroir. Crafted in the esteemed Saint-Émilion appellation, this exquisite vintage showcases meticulously hand-harvested Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. Under the expert guidance of the venerable Duc de Chêne family, traditional vinification techniques were employed, including natural fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine matured gracefully in French oak barrels for 18 months, imparting subtle vanilla and spice notes without overshadowing its vibrant fruit character. On the palate, Chateau Le Vieux Chene 2006 reveals a harmonious balance of rich blackberry, plummy undertones, and refined tannins, culminating in a long, velvety finish. This distinguished wine not only reflects the storied legacy of its producer but also promises exceptional ageing potential, making it a prized addition for discerning collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)
The 2014 Les Grands Chênes is plump, juicy and accessible, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. In 2014, Les Grands Chênes is on the more delicate side of things, but it is nevertheless very nicely done. Hints of licorice and lavender add nuance to the dark-toned flavors. The 2014 is delicious now, but it will develop more complexity over time. Tasted two times.HK$1,340.00 -
James Suckling (92-93)
This is very solid with a beautiful core of blackberry, wet-earth and walnut character. Full body and a long and flavorful finish. One of the best in a long time. Better than 2014?HK$1,300.00 -

Bernard Magrez's 2019 Les Grands Chênes is seriously impressive. Deep, layered and complex, the 2019 is full of character. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint, new leather, licorice, cedar and iron all take shape in the glass. The long creamy finish. There is a lot of wine here, especially for the money. The 2020 Les Grands Chênes is terrific, just as it was en primeur. Blackberry jam, gravel, incense, tobacco, scorched earth and espresso saturate the palate with remarkable depth. This deep, flavorful Médoc is a tremendous effort from Bernard Magrez and his team. My only complaint is the absurdly heavy bottle, which is completely out of touch with today's world.HK$1,480.00 -

The 2016 Les Gravières has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with crushed violet petals infusing the blackberry and strawberry aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity and hints of salted licorice infusing the black fruit. Good build in the mouth and gentle grip on the finish. Excellent.HK$1,135.00 -
