(1x75cl) 2005Burghound (95)
A ripe, expressive and fantastically complex nose that features a huge array of red and especially blue fruits, spice, earth, game and underbrush notes that leads to rich, full, suave and seriously deep flavors that coat the mouth on the long, concentrated and palate staining finish. This seems almost approachable but it's because the firm lashing of tannin is perfectly integrated and this will last for years but require at least a decade before even beginning to drink well.HK$99,625.00 -
(1x75cl) 2008Wine Advocate (97)
Smoky scents of Latakia tobacco and an alliance of fresh and distilled raspberry rise from the glass of Bize-Leroy’s Domaine d’Auvenay 2008 Mazis-Chambertin. The alternation of smoky and brightly-fruited (raspberry and red currant) elements on the palate has its counterpart in one of textural creaminess with almost electric vivacity. A clean sense of raw red meat and a scintillating floral dimension (violet and rose); hints of vanilla and brown spices from barrel; along with licorice and black pepper, all contribute to multi-layered and dynamic complexity in this remarkable Pinot whose finish seems to soar even as it lifts one’s spirits. The paradox of levity and density found in its sibling from Chambertin is perpetuated here, even if at a slightly lower energy level. There may be more opportunities for charm and seduction here – time alone can tell, and I would want to follow this (in my dreams I would follow it in reality) for at least the next 25 years.HK$153,725.00 -

(3x75cl) 2014D'Auvenay Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2014 stands as a masterpiece from Burgundy's illustrious Bonnes-Mares appellation. Meticulously cultivated in vineyard parcels characterised by unique limestone and clay soils, this Pinot Noir exemplifies the region's distinguished terroir. A veritable ambassador of its terroir, this majestic wine hails from the acclaimed soils of Côte de Nuits, known for imparting a mineral-rich complexity and earthy undertones. The 2008 vintage was marked by a cool, wet summer leading to a late harvest, reflecting in the wine's impressively concentrated structure, balanced by a remarkable freshness. The D'Auvenay estate, under the stewardship of Lalou Bize-Leroy, intuitively captures the personality of each climatic year, their meticulous viticulture and non-interventionist methods presenting an authentic expression of this pure Pinot Noir. The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is already very promising at this early stage, offering up a lovely bouquet of wild berries, cassis and currant leaf that's complemented by incipient bass notes of incense and sweet grilled meat. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, bright and pure, with fine, chalky tannins and incredible energy and drive.HK$302,250.00 -
(12x75cl) 1996Wine Spectator (90)
Plenty of blackberry, currant and cherry character. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, fruity aftertaste. A mellow and well-defined '96. One of the best Issans in ages. Best after 2000. 10,000 cases made.HK$10,620.00 -
(1x75cl) 2001James Suckling (93)
This has a lot of tobacco character that is slightly green with an animal and spice undertone on both the nose and palate. It starts off a little green on the palate, but then goes gamey and spicy. Needs to be decanted two hours before serving. Truffles and porcini come out with air. It's full bodied, with round tannins and a long finish. This lovely claret really grows on you.HK$615.00 -

The more serious grand vin twin, the 2005 d’Issan, has a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackcurrant and blue/black fruits galore, and an impressively opaque dark plum/purple color. With a rich, concentrated and pure mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet tannin, full-bodied density and richness, but elegance in abundance, this is a stunner, and one of the great Margaux of the vintage. Drink it now and over the next 20 years.HK$11,405.00 -

Wine Enthusiast (89)
With its high wood flavors and aromas of mint, this sets out to be a modern, extracted style of wine. But it has the lightness of Margaux in 2007, the Cabernet tannins soft and open. It already has good balance, suggesting it is not for long aging.HK$985.00 -

Exhibiting beautifully ripe currants, truffle, leather, and some floral notes, the 2010 Château D'Issan is medium to full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, and has a juicy, elegant, classy style with so much to love. Still young but clearly in its prime drinking window, it has another two decades of longevity ahead of it. Drink 2025-2045.HK$8,835.00 -

The 2012 Château d’Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and a stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. I underrated this wine dramatically in my report of April, 2013 (Issue 206).HK$4,800.00 -

You are immediately captured by the aromatics of this wine, such gorgeous complexity on display, layers of fern, heather, sage, white pepper, gun smoke. Taut tannins still at 6 years old, with nuanced, balanced, juicy and powerful cassis and bilberry fruits. No need to rush because this will age, but there is so much to enjoy here.HK$5,795.00 -

The 2015 d'Issan is a total knock-out. Spectacularly ripe and intense, the 2015 exudes richness in all of its dimensions. Super-ripe dark plum, lavender, spice, savory herbs, iron, smoke and new leather add myriad shades of nuance to this super-ripe, decidedly hedonistic Margaux. A powerful, dense wine, the 2015 is going to need a number of years before it is close to being ready to drink. I was quite impressed with d'Issan both times I tasted it. The 2015 has really come along nicely. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, aged in 50% new oak. Eric Boissenot consults.HK$5,635.00 -
