Vinous (93)
Healthy dark red. Aromas and flavors of crushed black raspberry, coffee, licorice and sweet oak spices; smells creamier than the Poissenots. Fat, sweet and deep on the palate, conveying near-grand cru volume and a wonderfully silky texture. This big boy finishes very long, with fine-grained but firm tannins.HK$1,290.00 -
Vinous (90-93)
(from 65-year-old vines): Bright, deep red. Medicinal black cherry and minerals on the reticent nose. Densely packed and youthfully imploded, showing little in the way of early sweetness. The pungent black cherry, blackberry and licorice flavors show terrific clarity and class but will require extended aging to blossom in bottle. The tannins spread out to saturate the entire palate on the long, perfumed, violet-tinged finish.HK$1,055.00 -

Vinous (91-93)
Impressive dark ruby-red color. Slightly high-toned scents of blackberry, kirsch, crushed stone and licorice complemented by extravagant chocolate and mocha nuances. Strong and sweet on the attack, showing intense, high-toned dark berry, spice and licorice flavors, then firmer and more minerally on the back end, finishing with a serious spine of fine-grained tannins and excellent supporting acidity.HK$6,240.00 -
(1x75cl) 2016Vinous (90-92)
(from very shallow, calcaire-rich soil on a steep slope): Good dark red. Deeply pitched aromas of black cherry, smoke, crushed rock and earth. Suave and energetic, showing distinct minerality to its flavors of dark raspberry, cherry pit and smoky soil tones. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and excellent length. Humbert believes that many of his clients will drink this wine early, which he feels would be a pity.HK$1,030.00 -

(6x75cl) 2001Vinous (93)
Saturated ruby-red; one of the darkest 2001s I tasted in Burgundy this fall. Very ripe aromas of dark berries, tar and licorice show a porty quality but in a fresh way. Quite rich and plush but youthful in the mouth, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the complex, spicy flavors of dark berries, black cherry and licorice complicated by leather and flowers. This is really stuffed with fruit: no hole in the middle here! The fine-grained, slightly dusty tannins arrive late. Emmanuel Humbert described this wine as a vin de garde style from the start, with the sound malic acidity that's to his taste. He noted that 2001 was a bit like 2010 in that the wines started out austere. He was also punching down much more back then, and this is certainly a classic, slowly evolving Burgundy.HK$5,215.00 -
Vinous (92+)
Bright, dark red. Crushed black and blue fruits lifted by violet on the nose (black fruits are a sign of great phenolic maturity, noted Humbert). Saline, sappy and rich, with dark fruit, licorice and menthol flavors spreading out to saturate the palate. More minerally than the Petite Chapelle, with an element of complexity that comes from successful ripening in a cool combe. Should make a terrific accompaniment to game dishes.HK$3,630.00 -
(1x75cl) 2013Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Smoked bacon, beautifully pure red fruit, long and complex finish - this has got everything. That smoky note is really strong - like smoked cheese or Islay scotch - but it really works.HK$990.00 -
(1x75cl) 2016Vinous (91-93)
(the crop level was normal in 2016; the Humberts own nearly one hectare out of a total of two for the appellation, with their 45-to-50-year-old vines facing full south): Bright, dark red. Very ripe, almost exotic nose conveys a hot-rocks character that reminded me of Châteauneuf du Pape! The plushest and sweetest of these premier crus, with black cherry and licorice flavors dominating. Finishes with big, ripe tannins and terrific echoing length. Conveys an impression of full phenolic maturity.HK$950.00 -

Deep red. Black- and redcurrant, blackberry and licorice on the rather cool nose. Surprisingly supple and slightly high-toned in a positive way, with its blackberry and spice flavors complicated by saline minerality. Offers good stuffing for village wine and finishes tactile, savory and sweet. This wine continued to draw me back for another sip.HK$1,120.00 -
Vinous (88-90)
(50% new oak): Good medium-dark red. Slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, cherry, mocha and minerals; one can sense the cool combe influence (vines in Les Marchais make up about half of this blend). Offers subtle mid-palate sweetness along with serious rocky, salty minerality. Finishes firm but not hard, with good energy and length. Humbert likes this village wine for its taut side in 2016.HK$1,045.00 -

The “dark expression of Ark Vineyard" continues with the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Dark Ark. Deep garnet-black, the nose is profoundly earthy/meaty, slowly revealing beguiling notes of damp soil, truffles and crushed rocks, before giving way to a core of crème de cassis, black cherry compote and fruitcake with wafts of beef drippings and wild fungi. Full-bodied, rich and oh-so-earthy in the mouth, the palate delivers layers of black fruit preserves, beautifully offset by a lively backbone and velvety tannins, finishing epically long and layered. There is something hauntingly cerebral and yet satisfyingly visceral about this vintage—a singular experience!HK$12,660.00 -

Probably my favorite in the entire lineup, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Few and Far Between comes from a tiny site just outside of Calistoga formerly known as the Pickett Road Vineyard. Like the 2015, the 2016 includes a touch of Cabernet Franc and spent the usual 32 months in 100% new French oak. This full-bodied, majestic Napa Valley Cabernet reveals a dense purple hue, awesome crème de cassis and kirsch fruit, amazing complexity in its spicy, sandalwood, and floral aromatics, and a massive yet elegant, lengthy personality. The texture is through the roof, it’s as seamless and polished as they come, perfectly balanced, and while I’d happily drink bottles today, my money is on this evolving for 3-4 decades.HK$16,990.00 -
