(1x75cl) 2002Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (97)
No great depth of colour but the hue retains its youth. A sensational bouquet not in terms of power or opulence but just in grace, sensibility and the detail. So much concentration. This really does not put a foot wrong and in magnum still has way to go. Delicate tannins maintain the energy of the wine at the back. Tasted Jun 2022.HK$25,880.00 -

The famously hot vintage announces itself right out of the glass: explosive blackberry and blueberry fruit. Yes, it’s ripe but not ridiculously so. Picked September 1st. Despite a bit of residual tannin, this is developing surprisingly well and may continue to do so.HK$21,345.00 -
(1x150cl) 2004Vinous (94)
Deep red. Classic aromas of small wild red berries, mocha and underbrush. Broad, sweet and deep-particularly impressive in the context of the vintage-without any loss of clarity or aromatic lift. Wonderfully suave, full wine that's also surprisingly tastable today. Finishes with noble tannins, noteworthy sweetness of fruit and terrific lift. This one should probably be laid down for seven or eight years.HK$50,110.00 -

(1x75cl) 2006Vinous (96+)
Deep red with ruby tones. Flamboyantly ripe aromas of black fruits, blood orange, peony and espresso. Huge yet weightless, saturating every square millimeter of the mouth with very ripe dark fruits, minerals and spices. This plush, sweet, extremely unevolved wine is almost monolithic today but the explosive, palate-staining finish suggests that it has a slow and glorious evolution ahead of it. The fruit here was picked with potential alcohol of 13.7%, the same as in 2005.HK$17,245.00 -

Bright, deep red. Knockout aromas and flavors of black cherry, black raspberry, crushed stone and smoky minerality. Wonderfully deep, tangy and sweet, with a captivating creamy texture making this deceptively tastable today. Impressive today for its volume, and finishes very long, broad and classically dry, with substantial fine-grained tannins. As delicious as this is right now, its overall balance suggests it will reward a decade of aging. For his part, Mugnier says that virtually every vintage of his Musigny needs ten years in the bottle.HK$117,920.00 -
(3x75cl) 2008Wine Advocate (97)
The 2008 Musigny is an infant, but it captures the essence of this important red Burgundy vintage to the fullest. There is gorgeous subtlety and nuance to the fruit, along with magnificent aromatics and the most elegant of tannins. The 2008 needs time for the elements to harmonize, but there is no mistaking the profoundness of what is developing in bottle. Today the Musigny shows a little more density and a touch better balance with its tannins than the Bonnes Mares, but both of Mugnier’s Grand Crus in 2008 are truly grand. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2048.HK$80,275.00 -
(2x75cl) 2010Vinous (97)
Another difficult vintage that produced a brilliant wine. This Musigny has developed a spicy nose with hints of tobacco. Very round but not overripe. Somehow this seems both bitter and sweet at the same time, yin and yang, with red and black fruit. Seems to combine the virtues of ripe and cool vintages.HK$54,065.00 -

(1x150cl) 2011Jancis Robinson (19)
Some vines planted in 1940s, and others between 1958-1963. A little darker than the rest. Gamey nose (nothing to do with reduction). Juice and freshness and intensity and real life and savour. Quite firm fine tannins underneath but masses of mind-blowing elegant fruit. Sinewy. All in the same register as the village wine. A gold-standard wine. But some will find it tight at this stage.HK$38,690.00 -

(3x75cl) 2012Vinous (98)
The 2012 Musigny opens with the most exquisite, captivating aromatics imaginable. A seemingly eternal wine with no beginning and no end, the Musigny is a wine that calls for serious introspection as it constantly changes in the glass. Wild flowers of all sorts meld into exquisite, finely-sculpted fruit all with the support of silky tannins that only add to the wine's total sense of refinement. The finish is long, seamless and haunting. There isn't too much more to say, except that the Mugnier's 2012 Musigny is one of the wines of the year.HK$88,080.00 -

Some vines planted in 1940s and others between 1958 and 1963. Extraordinary nose that is hugely intense and then on the palate there’s an array of flowers, red fruits and chestnut. Masses of juice. Strong texture and grainy tannins on the end and enormous power. Depth yet grace. Real refinement.HK$23,140.00 -

Wine Advocate (96)
The 2014 Musigny Grand Cru is just being released. Wafting from the glass with aromas of rose petals, Egyptian musk, orange rind, peonies, warm spices and red berries, it's full-bodied, velvety and perfumed, with superb concentration, lively acids and fine, powdery tannins that still assert themselves on the long, penetrating and gently chalky finish. This is a brilliant Musigny, but while Mugnier has done some of the work for his clients by aging the wine at the domaine for seven or eight years, it still demands a decade of additional patience.HK$19,075.00 -

Readers may remember my admiration for the 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru shortly after it was bottled. Today, as the wine is released onto the market, my enthusiasm is undiminished, as the wine is showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of cherries, raspberries, rose petals, exotic spices, orange rind and hints of smoked duck and forest floor. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it's seamless and complete, with terrific concentration, powdery tannins and lively animating acids that come together in an effortless ensemble. Concluding with a broad, expansive finish, five years in Mugnier's cellars before release haven't brought the wine to anywhere near its ultimate peak, but they have at least given a sense of the direction of travel!HK$139,900.00 -
(1x75cl) 2016Vinous (97)
A beautiful floral nose and a wonderful medium-bodied palate belie the difficult birth of this wine, the product of a brutal April frost. Production here was just four barrels, down from an average of 16. But what a wine. Sweet fruit, earthy and spicy notes, this reminds me in some ways of the ‘14 and is if anything ever more complete. If I used exclamation points, I would use them here. Drink now and for the next fifteen years.HK$27,190.00 -

The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru is very intense on the nose but shows complexity and terroir expression, offering stunning delineation and crisp red fruit and undergrowth scents. A touch of wild fennel emerges with time, but everything is perfectly controlled. The palate is finely proportioned, perfectly balanced and very pure, with gentle grip. The old purring Rolls-Royce engine here, though I observed it losing some of its initial flair with aeration. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.HK$78,545.00 -

The 2020 Monthélie Les Champs Fulliot 1er Cru comes from organic purchased fruit. There is touch of a reduction on the nose, touches of cherry liqueur and strawberry, the 30% new oak nicely integrated. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, slightly lower acidity than some of Parent’s other cuvées with a smooth finish. Will be difficult to resist in its youth.HK$4,475.00 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Pommard Les Rugiens is 100% whole bunch with 50% new oak, from purchased grapes whereby Anne Parent conducts the picking. It has a ripe black cherry and boysenberry scented bouquet with touches of black pepper and clove. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry, quite fleshy and expressive, but here, I am seeking just a little more precision o the finish, like the Les Epenots.HK$11,480.00 -

Burghound (91-93)
Outstanding. A much more floral-suffused nose speaks of more elegant aromas of various dark berries, anise and discreet earth wisps. The sleek, intense and precise medium weight flavors possess a beguiling mid-palate texture before concluding in a slightly more complex, balanced and sneaky long finish. Champs Pimont always ages well and there is no reason that this shouldn't do so as well.HK$3,495.00 -

The 2018 Beaune Clos de la Féguine 1er Cru is completely de-stemmed and matured in 25% new oak. It has an attractive bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit plus a little earthiness coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins and quite sturdy. The grippy finish suggests that three or four years in bottle will do this no harm. Fine.HK$3,055.00 -
