A blend of 62% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2021 La Garde possesses a somber, dark bouquet with aromas of wild dark berries, licorice, spices and coniferous forest. Medium-bodied, rich and concentrated, it’s long with structuring tannins and a firm finish. It needs some years in the cellar to chill out.HK$1,305.00 -

La Gerla's 2009 Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its textured, refined personality. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, leather, spices and mint meld together in a gracious, supple Brunello. The flavors are already a bit forward. I wouldn't wait too long here.HK$890.00 -

La Gerla's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is absolutely delicious. Dark red cherries, plums, mint, smoke, tobacco and licorice flesh out in a wine that offers notable depth, structure and power. The 2010 is medium in body and also quite polished, yet there is a level of inner sweetness and perfume that makes the wine incredibly appealing, even today. Ideally, though, readers should give the 2010 at least a few years in the cellar. The precise, delicate finish is a thing of beauty.HK$760.00 -

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is dark, sensual and inviting. Succulent red cherry, tobacco, mint, leather, sage and licorice flesh out in a radiant, open-knit Brunello that will drink well upon release. There is a lot to like here, especially the wine's immediacy. The 2011 is not especially complex, but it is beautifully balanced and harmonious from start to finish.HK$2,205.00 -

Bright red. Pure and very flinty nuances complement aromas and flavors of strawberry-rhubarb and wild berries on the nose and palate. Dense and juicy and boasting a focused, penetrating mouthfeel, this finishes long and clean with a very strong note of licorice. Best classico Brunello from La Gerla in some time.HK$755.00 -

La Gerla's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous, showing depths of earthy moist soil, minerals and hints of animal musk up front, giving way to crushed strawberry and cherry, getting spicy with lifting minerals yet retaining a rich character throughout. On the palate, silky textures are matched by cool-toned acids and refreshing moist mineral tones, as zesty cherry and cedar come forward. It's so balanced and smooth, with high energy lasting into the long finish, showing saturating spice and salty minerals, yet remaining cool-toned and precise. The 2015 is a beautifully balanced wine that’s firmly rooted in the earth.HK$815.00 -

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino displays depths of rich blackberry and cherry sauce with mentholated herbal tones adding lift, while notes of cedar and clove develop in the glass. Its textures are like pure silk, draped slowly across the palate, showing admirable density and weight, balanced by bright acids and minerals. This is so tightly wound up in its youthful state, yet it’s packed full of potential with a core of dark primary fruit that isn’t quite ready to reveal its charms. A web of fine tannin makes itself known only at the very end, as the 2016 slowly tapers off to hints of tobacco. The 2016 will take some time for this to come fully into focus, but it will be well worth the wait.HK$3,190.00 -

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino keeps you coming back to the glass again and again with a bouquet that"s like an emulsion of raspberry sauce and violet candies plus black tea, blood orange and clove. This is a soft, round effort that impresses with cool-toned red fruits and salty minerals and acids that tug at the cheeks as they work their way across the palate. Those grippy 2017 tannins are there, but they’re nicely offset by cooling herbal tones and pretty inner florals.HK$760.00 -

The nose is classic forest floor, violet, new leather and ripe berry while the luminous, full-bodied palate offers layers of depth and finesse even at this young age, including succulent Morello cherry, strawberry compote, licorice and black tea. It’s delicious and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity and tightly woven, fine-grained tannins.HK$760.00 -

(1x75cl) 2019La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is a highly regarded Tuscan wine noted for its full-bodied elegance and impressive structure. This exquisite red comes from the select vineyards of esteemed producer La Gerla, located on the sloping hills of Montalcino. Under the dedicated stewardship of owner Sergio Rossi, each vintage is meticulously crafted for superior quality and flavour. The 2019 release continues this proud tradition, impressing consumers with tantalising aromas of red fruits, spicy balsamic notes, and undercurrents of tobacco and chocolate. Several years of ageing in Slavonian oak barrels enhances the wine's complexity, body and longevity, culminating in a sophisticated bouquet and robust yet refined taste. Discerning drinkers have lauded La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino 2019 for its perfect balance and long, harmonious finish. An exceptional Brunello from a standout vintage, its wonderful character truly encapsulates the spirit of the region.

(6x75cl) 2020Jeb Dunnuck (93+)
Pouring a deep and youthful red color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is boisterous and fruity on the nose, with notes of grenadine, candied violets, pine, and hints of blue fruits shining through. Medium to full-bodied, it has good focus through the palate, with mouthwatering freshness in its notes of salty earth, also revealing ripe, angular tannins and good length. A very appealing Brunello with wonderful, refreshing structure, it may be even better than I'm giving credit it for from this early tasting. It's going to drink well over the coming 12-15 years.HK$2,415.00 -
(24x37.5cl) 2005Wine Advocate (95)
As usual, La Gomerie’s 2005 is a sexy, dense plum/purple-tinged effort. From a 7-acre, 32-year old site planted with 100% Merlot, it exhibits a sumptuous bouquet of white chocolate, roasted coffee, blackberries, black cherries, graphite, and toasty oak. This is a modern-styled, decadently rich St.-Emilion, but because of the vintage’s higher acidity and more tannic structure, this offering possesses a more classic framework than usual. A sensational wine, it should be drinkable in 3-4 years, and age beautifully for 15-20.HK$10,900.00 -

Ruby-red. Pungent floral lift to the aromas of redcurrant, sandalwood and sassafras. Sweet and supple on entry, showing good depth to its red fruit flavors. Finishes moderately long, with polished tannins and a persistent floral note. Very successful in this vintage.HK$5,905.00 -
Vinous - Ian D'Agata (86-88)
Opaque ruby-red. Spicy aromas of cassis, cocoa and tobacco. A bit chunky on the palate, with simple spicecake and dark plum flavors. Finishes smooth and long, and not at all hard--an accomplishment in 2009 consider the gravelly soil here.HK$5,985.00 -
(12x75cl) 2012Vinous - Ian D'Agata (88-91)
Bright red-ruby. Sexy, expressive nose offers perfumed black fruits and a touch of mocha torrefaction, complicated by bright minerality. Then sweet, pure and enticing in the mouth, with nicely delineated black fruit and candied violet flavors. The persistent finish displays chewy tannins and a savory quality.HK$3,060.00 -
(12x75cl) 2013Vinous - Ian D'Agata (86-89)
Medium red. Aromas of red- and blackcurrant and loam are lifted by hints of flowers, licorice and tobacco. Smooth on the palate, offering flavors of red berries and dark plum. Not the last word in complexity but nicely balanced and devoid of the bitter or green tannins typical of many 2013s. Well done.HK$3,355.00 -
(12x75cl) 2015Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)
The La Grave is a muscular, authoritative Pomerol. Here the flavors are dark and intense, while the wine's vertical sense of structure adds to an impression of brooding, virile power. Black cherry, lavender, menthol, scorched earth and grilled herb inflections, along with potent tannins, give La Grave its distinctly baritone voice. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years and see what develops.HK$4,825.00 -
(6x75cl) 2017Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)
The 2017 La Grave is powerful and dense in the glass. Dark blue and purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and dried herbs give the 2017 a decidedly somber intensity that comes through in the wine's overall feel as well. The tannins remain firm and sinewy, while slightly gamy, animal undertones reinforce an impression of rusticity. The 2017 is best enjoyed at the dinner table alongside rich, hearty fare.HK$1,850.00 -

Coming from the Moueix team, the 2019 Château La Grave sports a deep ruby/plum color to go with a meaty, spicy, iron-laced bouquet that includes notes of ripe black cherries, chocolate, and spice. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and velvety textured, it's the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted. It's already open and complex yet should shed some tannins with 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise for 10-15 years in cold cellars.HK$4,345.00 -

Spiced red and black fruits, cedarwood, and dried tobacco notes all emerge from the 2020 Château La Grave, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a solid mid-palate and ripe, building tannins as well as a nicely textured, balanced mouthfeel. Give this already complex, textured Pomerol 4-5 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 10-15 years.HK$2,520.00 -

Darker and denser than the 2015, the 2016 La Gravette de Certan reveals a similar profile yet has more obvious structure as well as full-bodied notes of smoked tobacco, black fruits, earth, and spice box. Deep, powerful, and shockingly good for a second wine, it’s well worth your time and money. Drink it over the coming 20+ years.HK$9,822.00 -

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in 50% new barrels, the 2017 La Gravette De Certan is a smoking second wine from unquestionably one of the top estates in Pomerol. Loaded with notions of dark, chocolatey fruits, leafy herbs, and violets, it has more richness and depth on the palate than most estates’ top wine. Medium to full-bodied and textured, with sweet tannins, it's well worth seeking out and will evolve for two decades.HK$2,855.00
