La Spinetta's 2003 Barolo Campè is a pretty wine to drink now and over the next 5-10 years, but probably on the shorter end of that window. Worn in leather, mocha, spices, smoke, plums and earthiness meld together nicely in the glass. The 80% new oak is totally integrated, while the tannins are also soft, yet retain a good measure of precision. Now fully mature or close to it, the 2003 will continue to drink nicely based on its density and depth.HK$6,630.00 -

(tasted from tank) Good deep red. Aromas of dark raspberry and mocha. At once rich and sweet and lively, from fruit picked quite early (and before the rain), with higher acidity than in 2004. Can't match the 2004 for fat or refinement of tannins, but there's lovely acid and mineral spine to the flavors of dark fruits, menthol and mint. Finishes with big, broad tannins and excellent lingering sweetness.HK$6,975.00 -

There is no doubt the 2007 Barolo Campe is impressive. It is a beautifully balanced wine layered with opulent, super-ripe fruit, new leather and licorice. The French oak is beautifully balanced in this broad-shouldered Barolo, while the fruit avoids the overripe tendencies of the past. The wine holds up perfectly in the glass, which hasn’t always been the case. Tar, licorice and spices wrap around the intense finish. This is the finest vintage of Campe to date. Kudos to Giorgio Rivetti and his team for this fabulous effort. To be released in 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.HK$4,220.00 -

The 2008 Barolo Campè (magnum) has aged impeccably. Gracious, silky and perfumed, with striking red berry fruit, the 2008 is in a gorgeous place for drinking now. Readers who own the 2008 in magnum are in for a real treat. The 2008 is floral, lifted and incredibly refined. It is also one of the most complete and alluring wines I have tasted from La Spinetta.HK$15,720.00 -

La Spinetta's 2013 Barolo Campè is bright, intense and driven, with beams of acidity and tannin that give the wine its shape. In 2013, the Campè offers a good bit of tension and overall structure that works to balance the overt fruit that is such a Spinetta signature. Even so, the palate feel is one of creaminess and supple texture, which makes this a rare 2013 that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice, menthol, rose petal and anise meld into the super-expressive finish. This is another impressive Barolo from La Spinetta. The 2013 was aged in a combination of cask, new French oak and used French oak.HK$5,055.00 -

The 2014 Barolo Campè is a touch slender, but very nicely balanced. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit gain a good bit of lift from the expressive floral and spice nuances that develop in the glass. A dash of new oak adds accents, but is also well balanced. Today, the 2014 gives the impression that it will drink well early and also develop at a fast pace - but then again, with Nebbiolo you never really know. The Campè emerges from the middle tenderloin of La Spinetta's Garretti vineyard in Grinzane Cavour.HK$7,205.00 -
Vinous (94)
The 2017 Barolo Campè is a very pretty, elegant wine. Proprietor Giorgio Rivetti and winemaker Stefano Mazzeta did everything right with the 2017, a wine that is so harmonious in the early going. The Campè is bright, punchy and so expressive. A spine of tannin gives the wine energy and shape, with all the elements so nicely balanced. Another few years in bottle will help immeasurably.HK$3,370.00 -
James Suckling (96)
A solid and powerful 2018 with plum, earth, black truffle and mahogany aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, chewy and rich at the end for the vintage. Try after 2025.HK$6,365.00 -
Vinous (92)
The 2019 Barolo Campè is a powerful, dense wine. All the elements are turned up, maybe too much so. A blast of dark fruit, leather, smoke, incense and chocolate hits the palate, framed by swaths of muscular tannin that add intensity. In this tasting, the 2019 comes across as a bit heavy and pushed too far with extraction and oak. I prefer the Garretti, at least today.HK$6,735.00 -
(6x75cl) 2021Jeb Dunnuck (95)
The 2021 Barolo Campe Vursu is a medium matte-red hue and leads with a wonderfully mineral-inflected, saturating nose of crushed stones, dried cherry, pine, spice, and wild herbs. The palate offers full-bodied structure, balanced richness, and ripe tannins that have a more rounded feel through the mid-palate. Campe comes from the vineyard's more exposed, higher section, whereas Garretti comes from the hill's lower slopes. Usually, they buy the fruit of Garretti for its approachability. However, the 2021 wines are somewhat flipped, with Garretti offering more nervous energy, and while the Campe is still structured, with the potential for longevity, it has a more velvety and approachable texture that fleshes out with air and makes it quite appealing. Drink 2026-2046.HK$6,455.00 -

Saturated bright ruby. Multidimensional nose of cassis, blackberry, raspberry, violet, espresso, mint and spicy oak. Uncanny sweetness and lushness but harmonious acids give the berry and spice flavors great snap and verve. Hugely concentrated yet quite suave and light on its feet. Finishes with rich, dusty tannins and outstanding length.HK$2,955.00 -

(6x75cl) 2010Wine Advocate (93)
Probably La Tour Carnet’s best since their 2001, the 2010 La Tour Carnet exhibits wonderful ripeness, a dense ruby/purple color, notes of licorice, camphor and some toast as well as lots of black currant and blueberry fruit. It is medium to full-bodied, with attractive sweetness of tannin, good acidity, excellent delineation to its component parts, and a full-bodied, impressively long finish. This wine may close down somewhat, given the moderate tannins, but it seems relatively accessible despite being a 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035.HK$1,960.00 -
(12x75cl) 2014James Suckling (93)
Brilliant aromas of blackberries, fresh mushrooms and dried flowers. Black licorice as well. Full body, tight and silky with ripe tannins and a linear line to it. Wet earth and spices. Drink in 2020.HK$3,005.00 -
James Suckling (92-93)
A linear and pretty wine with plenty of blackberry aromas and flavors to complement a tight and chewy tannin structure. Medium to full body and a bright finish. More structured than the 2015.HK$1,625.00 -
Decanter (93)
Once again Magrez has made a very enjoyable wine at this estate. There's a ton of fruit on offer and it has been extracted liberally but with care. The construction and the architecture feel more like 2010 and 2016 than many of its peers in 2018. It's a good wine that's clearly going to age exceptionally well. It has notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark chocolate, liquorice and black pepper. It has layers of complexity and enough acidity to rein in the exuberance. Note, as ever, that the bottle is the heaviest of the line up - a shame when he is doing so much work to reduce environmental impact. 40hl/ha yield. Ageing is in 33% new oak.HK$2,885.00 -
