A fine crimson colour. The bouquet is immediately appealing showing a distinction not yet apparent in the Chapelle-Chambertin, though that will come. This is the more structured of the two, possibly even a little bit stern, but with a wealth of high-class fruit behind where the refinement begins to show. Drink from 2032-2040+. The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru showed more reduction on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares: brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, and light forest floor aromas blossom in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins, velvety smooth with maraschino cherries, marmalade and touches of fresh fig. This is quite exotic towards the finish. By direct comparison, the aforementioned Grand Cru has a little more composure and restraint and perhaps handled the warmth of the growing season better. Still, it's a lovely Amoureuses.HK$9,455.00 -

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Fuesselottes 1er Cru has a complex and generous bouquet: dense red berry fruit, smoke, cigar box and touches of dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with blood orange and even a tang of marmalade on the spicy finish. There’s a lot going on in this Chambolle. Good deep red. Subdued nose hints at musky minerality and exotic herbs. The stone, spice and herbal flavors show terrific lift from calcaire; this is rather like sucking on rocks today. A very stony expression of Chambolle that displays excellent energy without any impression of weight. Purist's wine.HK$1,650.00 -
Vinous (93+)
Medium red. Powerfully mineral aromas of dark berries, orange zest, floral oils and crushed stone. The palate offers great class and lift, showing superb definition to the flavors of red berries, minerals and botanical herbs. This razor-sharp Chambolle finishes with terrific rising perfume. With extended time in the recorked bottle, the wine showed distinctly darker berry character, with captivating violet and mint high notes. A beauty.HK$6,110.00 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)
Medium red, less bright than the Feusselottes. Reticent nose hints at crushed stone. Silky-sweet on entry, then surprisingly open-knit in the middle, with sweet berry and mineral flavors carrying nicely through a broad, fine-grained finish. Has the stuffing to support its smooth tannins. (My sample of the Chambolle-Musigny Baudes was locked up tight and in a dry phase; it will require revisiting next year in bottle.)HK$4,420.00 -

Saturated deep red. Superripe yet sappy aromas of black and red fruits, crushed stone and smoky minerality. Then extremely suave and refined on the palate, and distinctly red in character, with dense strawberry, raspberry and crushed stone flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Ripe but classically dry wine, finishing with lovely tangy floral lift, fine-grained tannins and terrific cut. This is Jadot's vinification, and it shows!HK$5,885.00 -

Star anise, red plum and red cherry on this complex and bright nose. Silky smooth but plentiful tannins frame an expansive core of floral red fruits on the palate. Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru shows more reduction than the Les Baudes, and consequently, I find this warm and more difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more sorbet-like than the Les Baudes and slightly candied towards the finish but without quite the same pedigree. However, it should still drink well for a number of years.HK$6,110.00
