The 2023 Hermitage Le Gréal is exquisite, wafting from the glass with an exotic bouquet of wisteria, violet, cassis, mulberries and pepper. Full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, it’s built around a fleshy, even unctuous core of fruit underpinned by a delicate chassis of sweet, powdery and perfectly integrated tannins, concluding with a long, ethereal, violet-inflected finish. One of the most precise and seamless renditions of Le Gréal in recent years, it remains harmonious and finely balanced, representing the essence of this remarkable address.HK$1,925.00 -

Crafted from meticulously selected Pinot Noir grapes harvested from premier vineyards, this wine undergoes a delicate fermentation process in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving its vibrant fruit character and fine tannins. The 1999 Barolo Brunate remains one of the most backward, closed wines of the year. Still hiding behind a wall of impenetrable tannin, the 1999 will challenge readers to continue to be patient. Dark plums, black cherries, menthol, tar and licorice explode from the glass, but the 1999 still needs time, and likely lots of it. Nevertheless, the pure aristocratic beauty of this site comes through in spades.HK$1,185.00 -
(1x75cl) 2008Vinous (95)
The 2008 Barolo Brunate is gorgeous. An open, beguiling bouquet redolent of Christmas cake, plums, menthol and licorice melds into an expressive core of dark fruit. The mystery and allure of Brunate is on full display. The 2008 was quite open just after bottling, but it has begun to shut down since then. Both times I have tasted it, the wine has been translucent, weightless and yet powerful at the same time. In other words, the embodiment of what makes Barolo one of the most fascinating and complex wines in the world. Simply put, this is textbook Barolo from La Morra's top vineyards. The 2008 Brunate is steeped in class, but readers will have to be patient.HK$890.00 -
(1x300cl) 2010Vinous (93+)
Bright, dark red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of bitter cherry, blackberry, mint, blood orange and white peach. Then dense, sweet and pliant yet penetrating thanks to terrific vibrant acidity. For a medium-bodied wine, this communicates an impression of strong dry extract. The firm tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's finishing fruit to expand and stain the palate. Classic 2010 energy here.HK$2,745.00 -
Vinous (92)
The 2015 Barolo Brunate is powerful, dense and tightly wound. That should not be much of an issue, as the 2015 will be released later than normal, a path Marcarini will take gradually over the next few years with the goal of releasing the wine two years later than they had previously. Dark and hulking in the glass, the 2015 is clearly not in the mood to show all of its cards today. Iron, smoke, menthol, game, dried rose petal and soil tones give the Brunate its brooding, inward personality.HK$2,690.00 -

Marcarini's 2016 Barolo Brunate captures much of the mystique of this La Morra site in its beguiling aromatics. Deep, layered and so expressive, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Time in the glass brings out an exotic quality to the red toned fruit, with spice, menthol and floral overtones that linger. I would not be in a rush to open bottles.HK$3,520.00 -

(12x75cl) 2012Jeb Dunnuck (97)
The 2012 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard lags the Chardonnay but is still a brilliant wine. Framboise, black cherries, strawberries, forest floor, and earthy nuances all emerge from this Burgundian, layered, powerful 2012 that has loads of sweet fruit. Brought up in new French oak, it doesn't show a hint of oak, has full-bodied richness and depth, and a great, great finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 10-15 years.HK$37,770.00 -
(1x75cl) 1990Indulge in the mastery of Marcel Juge's Cornas Cuvee C 1990. Revered as a cornerstone of French viniculture, this wine exudes the essence of the Rhône Valley. Cradled in traditional ageing techniques using old oak, this wine showcases a unique, earthy expression of Cornas terroir. Its limited production numbers have made it a highly sought-after offering amongst connoisseurs. It is widely favourably reviewed by leading publications, such as Wine Spectator and Decanter. Vinous (92)
(this is the non-sulfured version of this wine, which is designated by an N on the left side of the back label): Lurid ruby. Black raspberry, violet and smoky minerals on the highly fragrant nose and in the mouth. Juicy, focused and pure, with a hint of blood orange coming up slowly as the wine opens. This lively, focused wine finishes with excellent clarity and length, the supple tannins coming in late. The differences between these two versions of this wine are fairly slight right now but in my experience the no-sulfur bottling shows more brightness for the first two or three years after release while the sulfured rendition holds up somewhat better to cellaring. If cellaring this wine were a priority--and for me it is--I'd opt for the S bottling, and in fact I did.HK$1,495.00 -

Pale smudgy garnet colour (and beautifully simple label). This wine is so pure and gorgeous! But gosh how the price has risen since I bought a case only a few vintages ago. It's a great advertisement for minimal intervention and purity. Direct fruit and not a trace of oak. Long and reverberant. Already drinkable but there is no hurry whatsoever.HK$1,825.00 -

This bottle of 2023 Morgon comes from the first bottling run completed in March 2024 (there will be five bottlings until September). Lapierre told me that this is destined for markets in Japan, Canada and a little for the US. The nose reveals dark berry fruit, sous-bois and light Indian ink aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and crisp acidity, a little rustic in a good way with a slightly savory finish. Lovely.HK$1,370.00 -

(6x150cl) 2023Decanter (94)
Ripe aromas of plum and blackberry scented with a saline mineral note and hints of black tea and spice lead into a pleasantly hefty texture with structure, density and length. Although the wine is immediately rewarding, it has the structure to age. The grapes come from one hectare in the Côte de Py climat in poor sandy soils over decomposed schist bedrock; they undergo semi-carbonic maceration for 24 days before alcoholic fermentation and ageing for nine months in used casks to produce this superb example of the type.HK$3,355.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)
(5-Star) This vineyard is worked by horse. The grapes were destemmed, and the wine has been racked to tank. A stylish crimson purple colour. The bouquet is attractive, less intense than Tuvilains, but perhaps a classier balance. The alpine strawberry and raspberry also build really well at the back. Exceptional. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Dec 2023.HK$3,765.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)
Another vineyard worked by horse. 40% whole bunch, still in barrel, 75% new wood. Mid crimson purple. A beautiful bouquet, with a headiness brought by the whole bunches. Dark red fruit with floral overtones. The stems give some white pepper as well, an there is a fine elegant finish. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: December 2023.HK$6,505.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
10% whole bunch, 70% new wood, 7 barrels. Red to crimson in colour, lightly reductive. This is a wine which is sitting back in a reflective manner, but the constituent parts are all there. More in a savoury style than lush fruit. I think it will work very well, with good keeping qualities, but it is less demonstrative up front. The finish shows the class.HK$6,160.00 -

5 Star Wine. 45% whole bunch vinification, 7 new out of 9 barrels. A fine red to crimson colour. The nose is less flamboyant than the Mazoyères yet with serious intent. This is solid with an iron rich blood orange tang, then a dark strawberry fruit behind, a firmer backbone – showing clearly how well this wine will age. A magical Mazis-Chambertin with excellent length. Drink from 2032-2045. Tasted: December 2023.HK$10,485.00 -

The 2022 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru has a refined bouquet with bright red berry fruit, damp loam, white pepper and Earl Grey, the 66% new oak and 65% whole bunches both neatly integrated. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy red fruit, a dash of white pepper and sage, gaining depth towards the finish that lingers tenderly in the mouth. Very elegant and stylish.HK$14,300.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
All destemmed, and now racked to tank, after 25% new wood. A fine bright crimson purple, with lifted fruit, showing both energy and balance. I like Savigny in 2022. Typical briary red fruit with well-integrated tannins. Fair length. Drink from 2030-2035. Tasted: December 2023.HK$3,335.00
